AAFA Peaseware Covered Spice Jar - 1st Period - 1850 - 1860
A beautiful. Peaseware covered jar which was probably used as a spice jar. It measures 3 inches in height to the top of the finial, 2 inches in diameter across the opening of the jar and 2 inches in diameter across the base. Peaseware was begun by David Mills Pease who moved his family from New England to the Cascade Valley of Ohio in 1850 and started a wood turning business. This covered jar is from the 1st period of Peaseware- 1850 to 1860. Note the shape of the finial- it is shorter and more flattened than the finials from the 2nd period. I consider this jar to be in very good condition. The only flaw that I can see is a 1/4 inch. Tight hairline in the base of the jar. This is pictured for you in two of the photos. Offered today is a Nantucket purse from a collection I have been listing. This stellar example is the work of N.P. Giffin and dated 1968 branded into the bottom. Several other examples of this maker's work are known so we know it is not the owner.But rather the maker. Ebony top adorned with carved whale( I can't enter the material the whale is carved from as Ebay will kick off the listing, as they prohibit the sale of this material) Mint condition throughout with no repairs at all. Nicely carved swing handle and original closure pin. Finely woven in the same manner as Jose Reyes, Sherwim Boyer, and other makers during this same time period on Nantucket Island. But rather a later addition; the chair is from the first quarter of the 19th century. This adorable little chair measures approximately 29 1/8" from floor to the top of the back crest; 13 1/2" at the widest part of the seat; 13 1/2" from the front of the seat to the back; and has a 16" splay to the legs. It is in very good antique condition, with no splits, breaks, or repairs. It has wonderful warm patina, usage-related dings, and appropriately mellow wear-just the way we like them. Made from homespun blue indigo wool and ecru linen and woven in two 36" panels, sewn at center. Remains of original fringe on bottom end. Top edge has been trimmed(see third from last photo) likely due to use wear, still at 86" long is a good size! There is wear(2nd pic) near the center seam at the top but it could be easily reinforced. There are a few modest tiny stitched repairs toward the bottom right, hardly worth mentioning. Up for bid is the vintage/antique AMAZINGLY UNIQUE& MASTERFULLY DESIGNED& CRAFTED Piece of American Folk Art. THE CORNER BAR" Interior SCALE MODEL(approx. 1:12) DIORAMA of a 4-SEAT BAR/SALOON from circa the late 19th or early 20th century, as seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. Words will not do this piece justice, as I do not know powerful enough adjectives to describe the awesomeness of it! Please enjoy as you review the 12 pictures provided(I have many more close-up pictures availible that can be sent upon request) This outstanding diorama is made mostly of a low/medium weight/density wood(exact type unknown) with brass door hinges, footrail and other small accents. Fresh from an old farm! Rare model of DAZEY brand butter churn. Churn has cast iron crank with gears. Marked on top DAZEY and has the daisy flower molded into the cast iron in the middle. The top has wooden hand crank with great patina and four sided churn dasher in jar. This is a perfectly working churn. The glass jar is a rare ribbed tulip shape that bubbles in and out on all four sides. The glass churn jar is marked with a molded in number 4 on one side and a fill to here line on another. All four corners have a ribbed design. The bottom is marked S.C.C. and Pat. App. For. This is a great churn that is in great condition. No chips or cracks to glass. Bottom where it sits on counter has age and use scratches like you'd expect from a real old glass churn. Definitely not one of those cheap reproduction pieces of junk made in China. This is a fabulous early vintage pillow sham or pillow case with feed sack fabric butterflies that are each hand embroidered and stuffed! This pillow sham case measures approx. 18 1/2" by 17 1/2" It is made from early blue chambray cotton fabric and each butterfly applique is attached to the top of the pillow case-there are 30 different butterflies! Very colorful. Showing some fading on a couple of the butterflies only, I see no rips or tears-just has the best charming and vintage look-authentic in age, not a reproduction! AAFA Germany Low Brow China Doll, Calico Clothes, Old Doll Trunk-Heart Handles!
Here is a great Valentine's gift for someone: a 14 inch tall low brow china head doll. Marked'Germany' on the back of the shoulder plate, with her trousseau of white cotton, full feather stitched apron, calico cape, slip, middy-style maroon calico dress and calico morning robe. The clothes are rather large for her and loosely sewn in places- probably sewn by a child, but the fabrics are early and date to the 1870s. She has no chips or cracks and has a firm body, light bit of glue noted beneath back of shoulder and gap makes me wonder as to age. The box is a beauty, with what looks like a pale blue milk paint finish, old lock that opens easily, nice paper engraving of a girl on the old paper lining of the lid, wood insert and ribbon to hold up lid also present. What is unusual is the half-heart tin handles, probably replacements, ... morebut made from cut 19th century tin biscuit tins in a heart shape. The trunk measures approx. 6 inches wide, by 11 inches in length, 5 inches high when closed. There are nice early nails and'knots' that show through light paint finish.

Antique Paper Mache & Leather Doll ALL ORIGINAL EXCELLENT with book AAFA
This is a beautiful doll. I also think it's rare to find one in this condition with virtually no wear and the original dress in such great condition. There are a few tiny stains on the dress(see pictures) there is a tiny split in the fabric of her dress underneath her hand- the split is about the size of a pencil eraser. Her leather hands and"boots" are in perfect condition- no tears. No rips. Her body is in nearly perfect condition also. In fact the ONLY wear I can see are a few spots on her hair where there are some tiny spots of paint missing. To find a doll in such great condition is unusual. This came from an estate of a doll collector; this was one of her favorite pieces. The dress is very unusual with it's tan lace and tucks on the back where it flows from the tucks into a train. I've never seen a doll's dress ... morewith a train like this one. Also her face is perfect- no dirt, no paint missing- just a sweet little heart-shaped mouth and great blue eyes- her face looks like the'placid face' of the Greiner dolls. Her dress is a light blue. Her'stockings' are a red and cream striped fabric- like those of M. S. Superior Dolls. Her boots are leather and look like they are supposed to have a heel. Her arms(and hands) are also leather. She is wearing a cotton decorated slip and the same material is used for her cute pantaloons. I did not remove her dress but I felt and looked around her neck and shoulders and it appears as if that piece is all in excellent condition; I don't see any splits or cracks! She measures 12 inches in height. Her dress measures 14 inches when measured from the nape of her neck to the end of the train. I cannot say for sure one way or another that she is an M. S. Superior Doll; however. I will include the book entitled"OLD DOLLS" by Eleanor St. George where it describes these dolls(if you already have this book, please let me know and I won't include it in the package) Even though I'm not a doll expert, I am familiar with antique d

AAFA Make Do Early Deep Red Doll Cradle and Calico Quilt, Primitive Repairs
Here is a wonderful country and primitive doll cradle with'Make Do' period repairs- probably by Grandpa- with tin strips added as reinforcement to the ends as reinforcement. It certainly worked and is sturdy. The paint is an early dark red(but not milk paint. It is crude but very quaint, edges rubbed. It comes with an original calico doll quilt, approximately 13 inches square, which is both treadle and hand sewn, with string tied corners to the squares. Both date to circa 1890s or late 19th century as a guess. Measurement of cradle approx. 18 inches in length, box width 7 inches- rockers to ends 10.5 inches, height 8 inches.
