Rare Vintage AAFA 19th Century Early Primitive Buttercream Wood Dough Bowl
Up for auction is a Rare Primitive 19th Century AAFA Buttercream Dough Bowl. A hole is present for hanging bowl. Approximate outer diameter: Measures 13 and 7/8 inches on one diagonal and 14.5 inches on the other diagonal. Approximate height 3.75 inches. A light application of beeswax/mineral oil for old wooden dough bowls and chopping blocks has been applied to nourish the wood. Which should be done periodically to preserve fine older historical pieces. 12 very detailed pictures show the particularly nice age appropriate condition with character effects of paint chipping, scratches, cuts, with no repairs. I love the rich true aged buttermilk color, the simply exquisite primitive patina, and the excellent aged condition. This is a 5 day auction. This auction is for a beautiful dark blue and white woven coverlet circa 1830-circa 1840. I believe it was woven of wool. The condition of it I consider to be excellent for it's age with only a few missing or broken threads as shown in the pictures and one small tear on one of the edges(picture 6) but this in no way takes away from the beauty or integrity of the This coverlet has a seam down the middle where it was joined and the seam is almost perfectly matched with only one set of squares in the middle as shown in pictures 3 and 4. The rest is joined exactly where the pattern should be joined. Usually the weaving was not exact and the joining was very off. Whoever weaved this had a lot of skill. AAFA Wallpaper Lined Early Victorian Wooden Document Box
Here is a nice example of an early document or ladies' wooden box. Dating to the first half of the 19th century, or circa 1840s-50s. The finish has a reddish cast and appears to be original, with fine crackling noted. There is a nice brass key plate, but no key- the top opening easily. I'm not sure of the wood, but it is fairly soft with some small nicks. The wallpaper inside is early,as well as the steel engraving. I think someone has reinforced the edges with tiny nails, but the wood appears original. Nice size and appearance, measuring only 11 inches in length, 4.25 inches wide by 3 inches in height. This would make a lovely glove or gift box.

Early Pair of Colonial Child's Shoes / Hand Forged Iron & Leather / AAFA / NR
These early child's shoes date to the late 1700's and are in great shape considering their age. The leather uppers are a bit stiff but still bendable and they have maplewood soles. Attached to the soles is hand forged iron held in place with hand wrought nails. I'd guess the age of the wearer to be around 3 or 4 and as the case with all shoes of this age they are skinny! The original rawhide ties are very brittle. Review all the photos to enjoy all the cobbler's details! You will love these! Dimensions: 7-1/2" long x 2-1/2" wide at their widest point x 4-1/2" tall. Per the family, the maker had come here from England as a very young child. So I do not know if it was made here, with English influence or made there. I have for auction this very interesting antique 1900s wooden industrial weaving loom shuttle used by woolen or cotton mills to create fabric. The shuttle is fully marked for the Lowell Shuttle Co. in Lowell. Mass. founded in 1896. The shuttle has the original old persimmon paint in very good condition. The shuttle is complete; there is some rust on the metal as can be seen in the photos but with minimal deterioration. Here's a wonderful piece of history. An old wooden cigar press from the late 1800's, bearing the mark of the Du Brue Mfg. Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio. Very interesting as you can still see some of the cigar remnants in the molds. The wood has a warm golden patina& is beautiful in its own right. The press remains in excellent condition; look over the photos as they're an important part of the description. The press consists of 2 long wooden planks that perfectly fit together in a tongue& groove fashion. All original& untouched. The craftsmanship is second to none. It was hand made out of heavy guage hammered copper& retains an incredible& original blue/green verdigris patina. My guess on the age is early 1900's? Measures approx. 21.25" long x 6" tall. Not counting the solid copper rod, which is 3/8" thick& measures 11 3/8" long from the rusty metal washer. This piece has a charming design that includes a farmer in his hay filled wagon pulled by 3 draft horses that are being harassed ... moreby a dog with the farmers son walking behind carrying his hay sickle. The silhouette design was crafted out of heavy guage hammered copper sheet with a hand drill& jewelers saw. You can see the handwork upon close inspection. See photos. The design is very detailed& proportioned. It was expertly& securely attached to the flattened& tapered rod end by two copper rivets that were hand hammered. The only thing that is not copper is the rusty& pitted metal washer. Wonderful condition with some minor nicks& scratches. Some copper showing through in small areas, some slightly bent tips. No breaks& never cleaned. There are areas of dark oxidation mostly to the back side of design as seen in photos. The boys anckles show dark copper, I'm guessing where he was slightly bent& realigned. No stress cracks that I can find. The whole length of the pivot rod has a smooth worn finish with wear scratches from spinning& the end has been worn down smooth& rounded. Miniature 19th c. Glazed & Tapered Redware Butter Crock, AAFA, No Reserve
Up for sale without reserve is this wonderful and original 19th c. Glazed and Tapered Redware Miniature Butter Crock with Manganese Sponging. Dating from the early to mid 19th century. It stands only 4" high by 3-3/4" wide. It has a pronounced rounded lip and a nicely incised line about 1/4" up from the bottom. The condition is very good and solid, without cracks or repairs, but there is plenty of surface glaze loss and tight crazing. Wonderful NEW ENGLAND chest in original red paint. Found in a coastal Maine home. This rare country chest has the best form, AND SIZE 36" wide, 40" tall, 17.5" deep. The cutout base has a 7" lift and looks to be original height. The beautiful red paint is first coat and there is a coat of old varnish that was probably put on in the late 1800's. I would date this chest to 1850. The hardware appears to be original. Please see photos. The drawers are beautifully dovetailed and the drawer bottoms are original. IT EVEN HAS ORIG KEY! it has a 2 board back. A great piece of folk art in its purest condition. There are minor scratched and a small chip in the foot and a old square nail repair but absolutely nothing to detract from the rare chest! please see photos. I have handled a lot of Maine furniture in the last 30 years ... moreand this has to be one of the best chests, paint& condition wise I have found. Found in the walls of an 18th century house in Connecticut is a nice assortment of used and unused. Large square and rose head American wrought iron spikes and nails. There are(2) large 7" spikes, 2) 5-1/4" square nails, 1) 4" square nails, 1) 4" rose head and(3) 3-5/8" rose head nails. The condition of all is excellent.
