EVERYBODY'S GUIDE; Or. Things Worth Knowing. Comprising Valuable Recipes, Information, and Tables for the Farmer, Mechanic, Merchant, Lawywer and ... moreDoctor, and all Classes of Workers in Every Department of Human Effort. By R. Moore. Illustrated. Published in 1884 by The World, New York. 7.5" x 5" cloth hardcover, with marbled finish. 410 pages. Condition: GOOD ANTIQUE CONDITION. Exterior has minor wear as shown in photo. Binding is firm. Inner hinges strong. Text block firm. Text is clean and complete. Front blank endpaper is missing. No torn or loose pages. Good example of this scarce 130-year-old recipe and how-to book. Description: This is an early Victorian recipe book published for the use of home-makers. Farmers, shop-keepers, tradesmen, craftsmen, artisans- everybody, in fact, just as the title states. EVERYBODY'S GUIDE is a rare treasury of practical. Useful and long-lost recipes and how-to instructions. The quantity of information this book contains is staggering: Recipes for cooking and preparing meat and fowl. Cake, pie and pastry recipes. Confectionery and candy recipes. Recipes for beer and wine-making. And much, much more. Including cures and first aid. Household hints. Farm facts and fixes. Bee Keeping. How to make all kinds of dyes. A lengthy section on watch-making and watch/clock repair, jewelry making, gold and silver plating, gold and alloys, etc. Practical information and advice for tradesmen and mill owner/operators. And much, much more. Down below you’ll see that I tried my best to give you some idea of just how extensive the range of information is in this book. I went as far as I could– and still more than half of what’s in this book didn’t make it on to this page! It isn’t often that a book defies my ability to fully describe its contents. But this is one of those occasions. So after you spend a few minutes browsing through the summaries I created below, pause and remind yourself that we’ve only scratched the surface of the 19th-century wisdom contained herein. Good luck,

From the Dust Jacket"In the soaring. Three-story space that is the Tower of Life at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. sixteen hundred photographs collected by the historian Yaffa Eliach give face to a murdered people. In'There Once Was a World, Eliach brilliantly and movingly records the history ... moreof that people. Nineteen years of scholarship, a poet's ear, and a storyteller's voice have yielded what is perhaps the richest, fullest, most detailed portrait of Eastern European Jewish life that we will ever have, a book that encompasses both the sweep of history and an intimate view of the day-to-day lives of generations of small-town Jews, in all their uniqueness and universality. Eliach's own roots in Eishyshok, as a descendant of one of the five founding families and herself one of only twenty-nine survivors, give her work an unrivaled depth and passion. Two million visitors a year enter the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where 1,600 photographs from the shtetl of Eishyshok constitute what many consider to be the most moving exhibit in the museum- the Tower of Life. In this soaring, three-story space we see the people of Eishyshok at their weddings and bar mitzvahs, their social clubs and literary gatherings, their winter sports and summer camps. Now Professor Yaffa Eliach, whose haunting collection of photographs gave faces to a murdered people, has written the history of that people. Eliach's nine-century saga of Eastern European Jewish life i

Poems, Pub 1933, 1st Ed., signed by the Author, Wilson MacDonald
These poems are written in English but the author attempts to make them sound French Canadian. Some are meant to be funny but others. Like the title poem Paul Marchand, are very touching. They are about Canadian life, crossing the ice at night, hockey and so forth. This is the first addition and there is a little note inside the front cover in the author's handwritting. The book is published by Pine Tree Publishing Co. 401 King Street West, Toronto, Canada
