A marvelous antique Eastlake newel post in walnut. Salvaged from a home in Knoxvile, TN and dating from the 1880s. Each side of this boxed newel features a convex rosette and an Aesthetic Movement motif in the form of a stylized potted plant; petite carved details accent the piece throughout. ARCHITECTURAL ANTIQUE : UNUSUAL CARVED OAK NEWEL POST FINIAL
Vintage carved oak newel post finial. The overall combination of carved and turned shapes gives this piece a very distinctive and visually appealing appearance.The medium dark oak finish has been cared for with hand rubbed oil for many years in my home. The splayed base is topped with a turned shaft that supports a wide circular turned and carved body element. The wide body tapers to a turned finial topped with a circular crown. The wide circular body has some joints between segments of wood that have opened up. But. This only adds to the overall character of this piece. It is a survivor! It's warm, satin body has the wear of time. The dings, nail holes and open joints are appropriate for a piece with over 100 years of use. Description This is a nice antique newel post that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is an octagonal design. The base has arched moldings on each side. The shaft has small carved rosettes in the middle with raised moldings above and below. The cap and a small section of handrail are included. It is notched for the step and is free standing. The total measurements are 44 inches tall without the top by 8 inches square at the base. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. There are some chips here and there. One of the rosettes are missing. Please look at the pictures carefully. Ref: 111417 Shipping. Antique Vintage Shabby Wooden Distressed Newel Post Antique newel post. Measures 43 3/4" long. Square sections are 5" x 5" wide. Notch out at bottom is 7 1/2" up and 2 1/2" in. Leaving a remainder of 2 1/2" on the post. Looks to be oak ~ heavy ~ weighs 17 1/2 lbs. A bit distressed ~ a few nicks and dings. Chip on one round band and some roughness on bottom as shown in pics, all of which can be repaired rather easily. Needs refinished. But in good condition to do so. Appears to have one coat of varnish, some of which is worn away and small streaks of white latex paint. Would look great done in stain& varnish or painted for a shabby cottage chic look. Hello again. Fellow collectors! This week I am listing VINTAGE ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE. You are bidding on ONE VINTAGE VICTORIAN NEWEL POST. This was salvaged from an old late 1800's brick Iowa two story Victorian church parsonage house that was torn down. It measures 60" in height. Made from cherry wood stock. Post has been stripped very clean and is ready for stain and finish. It is missing some trim molding for the upper section as well as the cap. I used to have it but the pieces have gotten misplaced over the years and are gone now but can be easily trimmed with any other kind of old similar molding and caps aren't hard to find. Up for sale is this late 1800's Victorian style newel post. It measures 51 inches tall. 12.5 inches square at the base and 10.5 inches at the top. In good condition overall. Offering this great early newel post cap in the unusual form of an open bowl or urn. Made of walnut with some applied veneer on the outside. This piece dates to the 1860s or 1870s. It is nicely milled with a double swell to the bowl. The cap stands 5 inches high and is 6 inches in diameter at the widest point. It has been used at some point, as it has 3 nail holes on the base-see photo. This piece is in really good condition; there is a crack in the veneer on the band between the two swells on the body of the bowl-see photo for detail. Otherwise. The shaft is fluted with diamond shaped embellishments. The corners have reel and bead molding. It is notched for the step and is freestanding. It measures 48 inches tall. And 6 inches square at the shaft. It is 7.75 inches square at the base. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. Antique Architectural Newel Post Base Banister Base Tiger Oak Great Pedestal Too A 26 years long time antique dealer in this area is closing her doors for good. And I actually spent two days picking this weekend through her stuff. She specialized in very old primitives, but I was able to grab a little bit for everyone– I have some fabulous advertising, industrial, retro, deco, lots of store displays and apothecary too– you don’t want to miss this week! WOW. Do I love this one! It's a beautiful antique architectural piece for you. A post bottom of base of some sorts- it's 12 1/2 lbs heavy and in excellent solid and sturdy structural condition- totally strong. Wouldn't it make a wonderful pedestal for your pretty? It's hollow on the inside, as you can see in my photos, with a solid wood base that has a single small hole at the ... morebottom, and numbers that are impressed in the wood- there's 18243, and then there's 396. I do not know the maker. You can also see wood pegs on the underside too- see photo 21- they are lighter in color and round. It measures 9 7/8" square at the base, 7 1/2" square at the body and 8 7/8' square at the top. The opening at the top is 4 1/4" square. It's 12 1/2" tall. I'm showing it next to my footstool in photo 2 for a size reference. The piece is covered with a tiger oak veneer, and you can see that there's one row of a carved look veneer just above the base- see photo 16. I do not know what the body wood is, but it's hard wood, and it even could be oak- see my top and bottom photos and what you think, as I am not sure. The patina is dark and shows a fair amount of wear to the finish- more aligatored crackles from age than anything. There's one corner that has a chip to the veneer- I'm showing it from one side in photo 19 and from the other side in photo 20. Antique Newel Post Figure Statue Spelter w/ Wood Base 16" T incl Banner The spelter metal newel post figure dates to early 1900s. It measures 12" to the top of the head and 16" to the top of the removable banner. The statue looks as if it has the original gilded patina. It has been repaired or painted a gloss on the top of the base and part of the top of the banner cross appears to be missing. Interesting shabby chic look that would look neat once again gracing a newel post or as a part of a collection of early English or American figures.

Description This is a nice post that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian home. It is made of walnut and is currently painted. It has the original finial. The top has raised bulls eyes on 3 sides. The shaft is fluted with beveled edges and recessed bulls eyes in the middle. It is notched for the step but is not freestanding. It measures 53.75 inches tall. Is 8 inches square at the base and 6 inches square at the shaft. Overall it is in good co ndition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. There are nail holes along the bottom. The handrail was recessed into the post. Please look at the pictures carefully. Antique Solid Wood Staircase Newel Post Column Architectural Salvage This antique staircase column came from a public building in PA. It is in solid condition. Has some weight to it(20 lbs) and is 45' high with the square sections measuring 4 3/4' across. The post stands by itself and is level. The floor in my butler's pantry of our 100+ year old house is way off, not the column. There are a couple of places where there is a crack although solid and nothing moving. There is a'slice' out of the top ball as shown. All of these flaws are fixable if desired.
