Great rich patina on original Mahogany wood finish. There is ordinary surface wear over the years where people have touched the knobs there is loss of color. The bottom corner of mirror frame has some cracking of the wood that doesn't show unless you get down on the floor and look up. The mirror appears to be the original glass with deterioration from behind which is typical of old mirrors. Could be easily replaced as back panel slides out easily. Has Rosewood veneer frame with one corner chipped that you can view in close up photo. There is also some veneer that is a little loose that could be glued down better if desired. It has many features consistent with his craftsmanship and style.He was regarded as one of the finest cabinetmakers in the United States. It is quite remarkable considering the state of our country at the time regarding slavery.He was African American, also known as a free man of color by historians.To be such successful entrepreneur and distinguished cabinetmaker was very rare, considering all of the societal norms at the time. Mr. Day served some of the wealthiest clients including two governors of North Carolina.Word spread quickly about his amazing craftsmanship and quality. He was an artisan as well as a cabinetmaker.There is a bronze statue of Mr. Day that stands outside ... morethe entrance to the Museum of History. Located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Wonderful crotch/flame mahogany veneered drawer fronts.The cabinetmaker was an artist as well as a craftsman to select such stunning crotch mahogany and the skill to showcase. It is second to none. The rest of the chest features solid mahogany& solid cherry woods. The secondary woods are pine. This 7 drawer chest has fantastic grains throughout.The entire chest was hand made, no doubt by an early American craftsman. A rare feature is the style of the curved drawer front of the 2 upper drawers on the lower chest(photo) It features incredible precise hand cut dovetail joinery on all 4 corners of each drawer. The drawers also feature hand planed(chamfered) drawer bottoms, with no evidence of machine tooling.The drawers have solid brass inlaid keyhole escutcheons. Mid 1800's American EMPIRE Crotch Mahogany shaving mirror stand w rolled drawers, This is a gorgeous mahogany period empire. 1830-1850 shaving stand. The dimensions are 27.5" H x 21" W x 12" D. It has 2 rolled drawers and a large original mirror. It may be a Southern piece. It is a fresh local estate purchase from a Ga Octogenarian's home. This piece is in very nice condition. There are a few small repairs and a couple of areas that are missing veneer/ have damage. There is one small piece of molding that is missing between the drawers. The crotch mahogany is beautiful in its detail and color. The mirror is in very nice condition with a couple of small areas where it has a little silvering loss or ghosting. This is a huge beautiful 19th century dresser that offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities with all the drawers in crotch mahogany with the original glass pulls. The original crotch mahogany framed beveled dressing mirror with powerful S scroll mirror supports and carved Paw Feet with hidden casters intact on the feet and we believe this piece to also have its original finish. This outstanding Empire dresser measures 73 inches in height from the floor to the top of the mirror. Height to the sides from the floor measures 45 inches, height from the floor to the drop center portion measures 17 1/4 inches, total width of the dresser is 69 inches, total depth of 23 1/2 inches and weighs ... moreapproximately 200 lbs. American Empire Antique Wig Chest Dresser Crotch Flame Mahogany~Marble Top 1825
Here we have a very Rare Empire Dresser for your consideration. This is a very fine Wishbone Mirrored Dresser with side wig curio cabinets. These dressers have always been the Cadilac of Empire Dressers. But this one is one of the finest we have ever seen. The burled or Flame Mahogany is fantastic. The colors are just beautiful. We do not have the exact history. But the party we bought the dresser from, told us that this dresser was saved in Katrina from the Huricane in New Orleans. It was transported north and sold to raise money for the people who once owned it there. We bought it from the next party who purchased it. The dresser is of such fine quality, and has all original parts. The only thing it may need is some new screws in the back when the wig cabinets mount. At the moment it is all assembled and they were not needed. But when the ... moredresser comes to its new home, that is one addition we would suggest is new screws in the back area. The wood on every side is pristine on this piece. The only thing you would find is normal wear from a dresser of such a grand age. All that is needed is a nice polish and this piece is ready to set up and be displayed with pride. The dresser is 77" tall by 43" wide by 21" deep. The mirror attaches on each curio side with wooden screws and original knobs. The drawer fronts have the carving at the top and bottoms and the matched grain of the wood is outstanding. This piece could be by the famous cabinet maker Thomas Day. As even the sides of the dresser have fantastic matched graining. The hand made dove tails and brass locks, are all top notch and fine quality. The marble top inset is beautiful thick Italian Marble with nice grain and detail. There are no chips, nor cracks on the marble. It could use a polish from a marble professional. But the patina and wear only adds charactor to the piece. I believe it is empire style. It measures 8 1/2" wide by 8 3/3" high by 4" deep. drawers are all dovetailed by hand and square head nails used for the other parts. There is grooves on the top drawers where I believe there was a mirror at one time which has been long lost. It is missing one pull and I don't know if they are original. One leg is missing in the back. the piece does have a piece off of the front edge of the top. I believe it is the original finish with wear from the years. early empire mahogany chest dresser turned columns very early period piece
for sale a very early empire chest of drawers or dresser. made of mahogany. this piece is as old as dirt. the drawer bottoms and the back of the chest is all hand chamfered. the joints are all hand cut dovetails. what few nails were used to stabilize the bottom of the drawers to the back are square nails. it features four drawers. None the same size. one large one on the top that is stepped out under which are situated two nicely spiral turned columns which come to rest on a platform that the turned front legs affix to. back legs are also turned. the feet or legs all have casters inserted in them. there is a molded trim along the bottom of the chest. it has a few minor dings here and there, none of which take away from its function or beauty plus there are a couple of small pieces of boards chipped out. they are all small and doubtful any ... morewill show in the pictures. it was faded and sun bleached when i dug it out of the barn. i cleaned it with new life and then rubbed a bit of stain on it and sprayed it with lacquer to dry the stain. i do not think it has ever been refinished. at any rate, it is a nice solid very old dresser. i am starting it for less than i paid years ago. 500 back then would make a pretty good down payment on a new car. it is a fairly large chest being 22.5 inches deep, 43 inches wide, and 48 inches tall. overall a very nice hand crafted empire chest made circa 1860. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyers expense. good luck.

Early American Empire Mahogany Chest With Sandwich Glass Pulls
Very nice empire chest ready for another 150 yrs of service. This chest dates from about 1850-60 and is all hand dove tailed and hand chamfered bottoms and side panels. We restored it back to a wonderful condition. We do the drawers inside and out also look at the backs of our furniture they are finished too. We do not skimp on anything when it come to bringing a piece back to life. These chests are near indestructible and withstand a ton of abuse, yet they are beautiful! Original porcelain key hole escutcheons which you rarely see. The sandwich glass knobs are reproductions but of high quality and correct for the period. antique empire flame mahogany vanity dresser carved!!!!
layaway available on any of my listings should anyone have an interest in that. up for auction is the nicest empire vanity i have seen in all the years i have been messing with antiques. i bought this not long ago and have it in my dining room as there is no where else to put it in my 20 room house. i have another one in a bedroom upstairs that i will list shortly. hopefully it will sell and not this one as i want to actually keep this one. anyway. I have seen a dozen or so of these, but none this nice. it is serpentine, heavily carved mirror harp, pedestal, feet and wings, along with carved roping surrounding the vanity top. the mirror shows some fog, which does not bother me, i can have that corrected for about 100.00 should someone want that accomplished. it is free from damage or repairs as far as i can ascertain. i think the knobs on ... morethe two serpentine drawers are original as well. this is a wonderful empire piece made around 1860 or so i think out of the most wonderful flame mahogany as you will find. the piece has wonderful patina and is gorgeous. the pictures do not do it justice. it stands 49.5 to the top of the mirror, it is about 30 inches to the vanity top and 22 inches deep at the widest point of the serpentine top. it is 44 inches wide at the back of the top and 38 inches wide at the front of the top. shipping will be the buyers responsibility. you may arrange a carrier, or i will do it for you, or you may pick it up at my home. if the carrier requires a crate, i will build it for the cost of the material and will not charge any labor. the material will cost about 50.00 for the crate, if required. i need to sell one of these vanities, don't have room for both. i am starting this at probably all it is worth, but if you want the best, this is for you! i bought it because it was the nicest one i have seen in years and years. i doubt you can find another one like it, and if so, it will be expensive. i will be glad to answer any questions or supply other pictures upon request. good luck

antique victorian mahogany heavily carved dresser mitchell & rammelsburg empire
ebay allows 12 pictures. for this piece that is not nearly enough to do a decent job in describing and showing it. at any rate. Here is a wonderful antique serpentine front dresser most likely by mitchell and rammelsburg. if not by them, someone equally as gifted in furniture making. the dresser is mahogany and stands 94.5 inches tall on its original porcelain casters. it is 49 inches wide and 24 inches deep. it has 4 drawers. the one at the bottom does not appear to be a drawer. it was crafted to be a hidden drawer. there are no pulls on it and it is carved differently to appear as the bottom splash board of the dresser. the dresser is quite heavy, the drawers are well made with the front serpentine boards being about 1.25 inches thick. notice the joints of the drawers, all hand cut dovetails which date the piece to circa 1870-1880. it has ... morea large mirror harp as you can see that is pierced carved and has candle stands, finials, crests, and other nice details that make this a very desirable dresser. the mirror is arch shaped and shows some smokiness and a little silver loss. the mirror is actually in better condition than most. i do not know if the mirror is original but the backing appears to be. at the base of the mirror harp on each side is a nice glove box with a drawer that is hand carved dovetails. i forgot to get pictures of these with the drawers open, nor did i show the four drawers of the dresser open as i ran out of picture spaces allowed by ebay. the drawers all open with ease and each drawer is designed for its specific space. i have a book that is dated 1991 that lists a dresser like this but not as nice for 2250.00. it has great form and beauty, the front of the dresser corners are especially nice. the marble is original and is in great condition for its age. any questions please ask and if you want more pictures i have several and would be glad to supply them, again just ask for what you want. the dresser may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. i know the pictures are bad, i

A very special piece! My mother has moved from the family home to a much smaller condo and sadly doesn't have room for several family treasures. This flame mahogany American Empire-style dresser. Estimated to have been made in the 1850s, is gorgeous. The dresser's mirror-image crotch-grain mahogany is absolutely beautiful, a hallmark of quality in fine furniture construction. The curved front is lovely, as are the carved backboard and skirt. The finish on the front, sides, and top is glossy; the back is unfinished. All six drawers work perfectly and are outfitted with mushroom-turned wooden knobs. My parents originally purchased this dresser from an antiques dealer in upstate New York and it's been in their smoke-free household for more than 50 years. No maker's mark is evident. HI. great antique empire salesman sample dresser. this one has two small drawers on top with two wood handles each and three draweres on the bottom. the top drawer has no handles. It is curved and pulls out, almost like a hidden drawer. and the bottom two have 4 old wood handles. this is exactly how the large size empire chests would have been done. there are scroll feet on the the front legs and the back feet are beautiifully detailed and not just chunks. the piece is high quality and tounge and groove joints, i think the wood is mahogany, but i am not sure.it is dark stain on the outside. just wonderful detailing especially the back legs that are so beautifully detailed.minor wear to finish and some small areas missing veneer. see pictures, nothing to big or noticiable. top has some cracklature in the finissh. a few small dings. but for ... morethe age in very fine condtion. dont miss this one, it is really a special piece and fresh from a local estate, not on the market yet this is the first time in many many years. it came from a collectors home recently sold. measurements. 11 inches high 6 7/8 inches deep at deepest point 12.5 inches wide please see all the pictures and email any questions before bidding. we accept paypal only and payment within 3 days of end of auction. thanks for bidding.

Antique Mahogany Sheraton-Empire Chest Of Drawers Circa 1830's-40 This very handsome antique mahogany Sheraton-empire chest has four large drawers with the glove drawers and nicely done back splat. It's in a beautiful caramel swirled colored mahogany. The brass pulls are new replacements, all the drawers are dovetailed with chamfered bottoms an slide in and out very smoothly. The chest is 43 1/2 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 51 inches at highest point at top of back splat and is in very good condition with no visible repairs and just a mere age crack on either side which is very common and hardly noticeable. Antique Empire Dresser, mahogany, mirror veneer, 19th century, good condition
An Empire Bureau. Or chest of drawers made of mahogany in the early half of the 19th century. This is a grand piece of furniture that would look great in any large space-hallway, large master bedroom, dining room. We had it in our hallway in a 1803 house in upstate New York. There are four large drawers and three small drawers at the top. The largest drawer is directly below the three small top drawers, consistent with the style. Drawer fronts are a mirror veneer, rest of the wood is solid. The drawer pulls are brass. This is a solid, well-built dresser. It is heavy. It stands about 52 inches high, is about 47 inches wide and about 21 inches deep. The drawers are about 16 inches deep. The finish is in relatively good condition; there are scrapes, scuffs, nicks and scratches but it would not necessarily need to be refinished. Outstanding early American Empire Chest of Drawers that has been in my family for generations. Quite possibly the work of cabinetmaker Thomas Day. Who worked in North Carolina in the early 1800s. I've been told that this piece dates to the 1820s and is in exceptional condition, despite two small spots of missing veneer and one damaged drawer knob. I'm told that everything on it is hand made and stunning. Restored, it would be much more valuable.

Very Nice Antique Empire Style Dresser with hand carved columns, flame mahogany
Hi. And thanks for looking! This listing is for a real antique empire style dresser. This is a good sized piece, 47 inches high, 42.5 wide, and 23 deep. There is three drawers on the bottom and two up top, all with hand cut dovetails. I think the bottoms of the drawers as well as other parts are all one piece of wood with no seams. The front has beautiful flame mahogany veneer which is in fairly good shape except on the top drawers, which have slight curve. Along each side of the front are greek colums with hand carved details top and bottom. The top of the dresser is two boards that have been painted to look like wood grain. There is a gap in between them, due to age I suppose. All the drawer pulls are clear glass, I don't think they are original, but they are old, and some don't match exactly. From doing a little bit of searching, I get some hits from Morris County, New Jersey on the names, I think Howard Simley was born in 1899 so this sale probably took place in the 30's or 40's, I would suppose, but that's just a guess. A very nice antique. Circa 1830's, Empire Period solid mahogany chest of drawers, with the drawer fronts in flame mahogany veneers. The columns are veneer wrapped around, with carved capitols. Case is on four ball feet. The drawers and secondary wood is pine. The top is of three mahogany boards. The sides have recessed panels. Chest measures 53" tall by 50" wide by 24" deep. Very good plus condition: original unworn finish, flame veneers very fine. The lock to the top center drawer is missing, four other drawer locks present. The Chippendale style brass escutcheons are old replacements for the Empire style originals. Minor chip to edge molding around the top boards. Back boards with shrinkage cracks masking taped over.

This fine 19th century dresser features its original glass drawer pulls. Early hand-cut dove-tailed ends on the drawers and powerful S scrolls that flank the base. The ogee framed mirror rests between the tall scroll top arm supports, we believe the mirror to be an older replacement and is nice and clear. The drop center base features smaller glove box drawers on each side with ogee drawer fronts and below additional storage is found in the four larger drawers below. The front feet are large carved claws with acanthus leaf tops, below plinths supporting full round columns having acanthus carved capitols. Between are two flat deep drawers with curved ends. Above is the long convex front drawer, sectioned inside. Three small drawers are on top, all drawers with the original cut glass knobs with brass collars. Supporting the removable framed swivel mirror(new glass) are two carved acanthus leaf scrolls. The fronts and sides of the case are flame mahogany veneers, the case and drawer interiors of pine. A most unusual antique. Circa 1840's, Empire period flame mahogany veneered and solid mahogany man's petite dresser. Lifting up and back of the top exposes a gray veined white marble surround, the underside of lid with the original very wavy mirror. The case holds four drawers with butterflied flame mahogany veneer fronts, the drawer interiors in oak. The case is on casters. The dresser measures 37-1/2" tall by 28" wide by 16" deep. Very good plus condition: damage is a horizontal crack to board and veneer across the top board of the lid. Both veneered sides have vertical shrinkage cracks. Includes all the locks and the key. The marble slabs are without chips, or stains. The right side marble piece has been broken in two and cemented back. The mirror is fine. The original finish has aged to almost an ebony color.

I have tried to take pictures of all of it so you can see them. I think it is mahogany veneer. The dolphins are 1" thick, 6.5" wide, and 21" tall. The side drawers are 6.25 wide; middle drawer 9.5. From bottom to top of shelf is 6" Mirror[which has been replaced] is 16.25 wide and 21 3/8 tall[this is sight for mirror, not including the frame] When I bought it years ago I made sure the key worked and opened it and locked it several times before buying it. Possibly New York or Boston, c.1830 This formidable case piece is defined in part by an elaborately scrolled backboard embellished with rosettes flanked by deeply carved columns and pineapples. This chest has four graduated drawers and a narrow split drawer. All of which is framed with elaborately carved columns of the best quality, similar to the pineapple columns above and the strongly carved paw feet below. The brasses are original and ring pulls with elaborate floral backplates successfully complete this piece.
