THERESE STERLING SILVER AND CRYSTAL EUROPEAN ROSARY Featuring the Sacred Heart of Jesus with Vintage Metal Box This auction is for a large art deco style antique St. Therese themed sterling silver European hallmarked crystal rosary with 59 beads. All double sterling silver ring capped. The paters are are round and the maters are cone shaped. The middle medal is a beautiful cut out of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with Our Lady of Mt. Carmel marked sterling with the maker's mark on the back side. The hanging length is 24" and the large thick etched crucifix is over 2 1/4" long and is hallmarked on the back sterling and the European maker's mark. A silver St. Therese medal is attached. This is a very high quality, well-made rosary in great antique condition. The rosary comes in a silver plated metal box with ... morea floral motif. And a rose in the center in honor of St. Therese the Little Flower. The box is beautiful and special and has a little wear, but is in great shape overall considering its age. The inside has red felt material. The hinge is completely functional and there are no holes, breaks or tears. The outside finish of the box is still bright but does show an appropriate patina consistent with a vintage item. Embedded in the motif are three medallions one of St. Christopher. One of the Blessed Virgin Mother, and lastly, one of St. Teresa of Avila, the Little Flower. Piece can be taken off the wrist and held in one's hand to count and meditate whilst praying the Rosary. Bracelet measures approximately 6.5 inches long and just over 1 inch at its widest. It so reminded me of the one my mom used to pray before Mass-with the beautiful faceted crystals that spray rays of color when reflected by the high church ceiling lights. I remember being mesmerized by it when I was a child. But enough nostalgia. This is a unique rosary in that the beads are not the typical round faceted beads-they are multi-faceted. And sort of triangular or pear-shaped measuring 8.89 mm at the top. AND.they are NOT just cut glass-they are rock crystal, a form of natural quartz, as tested on the Presidium gem tester. The round Mystery beads are double-capped in sterling filigree. The link chain is sterling silver. As are the crucifix ... moreand the centerpiece medallion. Both the cross and the medallion are marked sterling, and the cross also bears a maker's mark. The rosary is inscribed with the owner's name. The cross and the other emblem with Jesus pointing to his heart on one side and the Madonna and baby Jesus on the other side are marked"sterling. I believe the heavy metal chain also is sterling as it does not stick to a strong magnet. The rosary has all 59 beads and is 20" long. The cross is 2-1/4" long and 1-1/4" wide. The glass crystal beads really sparkle. There is great detail on the figure of Jesus on the cross and on the emblem. This rosary weighs 45.2 grams. It comes with a leather pouch. Just wonderful. Approx. measurements of the rosary is 34" long with the medal and cross piece measuring an additional 7 1/4" Laid out flat on a ruler. It measures 24 3/8" long. The cross measures 2 3/8" tall and 1 1/4" wide while the faceted beads measure 1/4" wide. Approx. weight is 66 grams. The rosary is in excellent condition. It has been polished lightly but could use a bit more. The Cross is marked Sterling on the back along with a maker's mark of a M inside a triangle. Really a wonderful Sterling rosary. Vintage items are a piece of history and always in style. Offering styles and construction ... morethat cannot be duplicated today. Vintage Sterling Silver Faceted Crystal Beads Rosary Original Satin Velvet Box
This Vintage Sterling Silver and Faceted Crystal Rosary Beads is in its Original White Satin and Blue Velvet Box. It measures 21-1/2" long and weighs XX grams. The Colorless Crystal Beads have flat tops with a slightly smaller waist and link together with Sterling links. The Scrolled Cross measures 2" tall and 1-1/4" wide and is stamp marked. STERLING" The Center Medal measures 7/8" and has an embossed picture of the Virgin Mary and on the other side is Jesus; it is also stamp marked, STERLING" This Rosary was used and several of the Crystal Beads have tiny flea bites. But no cracks or damage and the Sterling Cross and Center Medal remain unpolished and have a soft gray Patina. The Cross has a very slight bend at the bottom and we've included a close-up of this area in our last Photo.
