Reliquary and Relic of St Thomas Aquinas. Patron Saint Against Storms Click to open supersize image Click to open supersize image Click to open supersize image This auction is for a gold color theca and reliquary containing a relic of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Wax seal and threads are intact. You are bidding on the theca and reliquary. The relic is a gift to the highest bidder. Reliquary measures about 4 inches tall with a base of about 2.5 inch in diameter at its widest part) Feast Day 28 January; formerly 7 March Biography Son of the Count of Aquino. Born in the family castle in Lombardy near Naples, Italy. Educated by Benedictine monks at Monte Cassino, and at the University of Naples. He secretly joined the mendicant Dominican friars in 1244. His family kidnapped and imprisoned him for a year to keep him out of sight, and deprogram him, but ... morethey failed to sway him, and he rejoined his order in 1245. He studied in Paris. France from 1245 to 1248 under Saint Albert the Great, then accompanied Albertus to Cologne, Germany. Ordained in 1250, then returned to Paris to teach. Taught theology at University of Paris. He wrote defenses of the mendicant orders, commentaries on Aristotle and Lombard’s Sentences, and some bible-related works, usually by dictating to secretaries. He won his doctorate, and taught in several Italian cities. Recalled by king and university to Paris in 1269, then recalled to Naples in 1272 where he was appointed regent of studies while working on the Summa Theologica. On 6 December 1273 he experienced a divine revelation which so enraptured him that he abandoned the Summa. Saying that it and his other writing were so much straw in the wind compared to the reality of the divine glory. He died four months later while en route to the Council of Lyons, overweight and with his health broken by overwork. His works have been seminal to the thinking of the Church ever since. They systematized her great thoughts and teaching. And combined Greek wisdom and scholarship methods with the truth of Christian
Relic Reliquary SAINT GERARD MAJELLA Expectant Mothers - Pregnant Women & Babies
This is a beautiful relic of St. Gerard. Patron saint of expectant mothers and babies. Written on this reliquary one can see he was not a saint yet. He was called Blessed Gerard, so this dates this relic from the year 1893-1904. It measures 1.125" x 0.875 of an inch. This relic is from the estate of a French Archbishop who was an avid relic collector. His bio will be provided to the relics new custodian. The last photo shows some of the relics and religious antiques I have the auction this week I combine shipping. St. Gerard Majella. Religious, is the patron of expectant mothers. He was born at Muro, Italy, in 1726 and joined the Redemptorists at the age of 23, becoming a professed lay brother in 1752. He served as sacristan, gardener, porter, infirmarian, and tailor. However, because of his great piety, extraordinary wisdom, and his ... moregift of reading consciences, he was permitted to counsel communities of religious women. This humble servant of God also had the faculties of levitation and bi-location associated with certain mystics. His charity. Obedience, and selfless service as well as his ceaseless mortification for Christ, made him the perfect model of lay brothers. He was afflicted with tuberculosis and died in 1755 at the age of twenty-nine. This great saint is invoked as a patron of expectant mothers as a result of a miracle effected through his prayers for a woman in labor. Prayer: O Great Saint Gerard. Beloved servant of Jesus Christ, perfect imitator of your meek and humble Savior, and devoted Child of the Mother of God: enkindle within my heart one spark of that heavenly fire of charity which glowed in your heart and made you an angel of love. O glorious Saint Gerard, because when falsely accused of crime, you did bear, like your Divine master, without murmur or complaint, the calumnies of wicked men, you have been raised up by God as the Patron and Protector of expectant mothers. Preserve me from danger and from the excessive pains accompanying childbirth, and shield the child which I now carry, t

Her mother died while Germaine was an infant. A sickly child. Germaine suffered from scrofula. And her right hand was deformed. Ignored by her father and abused by her step-family. She was often forced to sleep in the stable or in a cupboard under the stairs, was fed on scraps, beaten or scalded with hot water for misdeeds. Real or imagined. At age nine Germaine was put to work as a shepherdess. Where she spent much time praying. Sometimes using a rosary she made from a knotted string. She refused to miss Mass. And if she heard the bell announcing services. She set her crook and her distaff in the ground, declared her flock to be under the care of her guardian angel. And went to church; her sheep were unharmed during her absences. It is reported that once she crossed the raging Courbet River by walking over the waters so she could get to church. Germaine was so poor it is hard to imagine she would be able to help others. But she was always ready to try, especially children whom she gathered in the fields to teac

Anne Garcia Manzanas, of Almendral, Spain, tended her brothers’ sheep. Devoted to the Passion of Christ, she wanted to consecrate her virginity to God. But feared she would be unable to overcome her brothers’ opposition to her vocation. As she later related, I decided one day that if I were to find a Man very rich, very handsome, very agreeable, very holy, and who would have helped me in the service of God, that I would have been glad with such companionship. As she was musing thus, Christ appeared to her and said, I am the Man whom you are seeking. From that day onward, Anne resolved never to marry. One night, having fallen asleep with her rosary in her hands(which she recited ... moredaily) Anne experienced a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary showing her the Discalced Carmelites’ convent in Ávila, and pressing her to become a nun there. Then Christ appeared, seconding his Mother’s words and pulling Anne by her rosary beads. After waking, Anne resolved to become a Carmelite, and took her vows at Ávila in 1572. She served as secretary to the Discalced Carmelites’ foundress. Saint Teresa of Ávila. But he soon returned home. When, in 1394, de Luna himself had become Pope at Avignon he summoned St. Vincent and made him Master of the sacred palace. In this capacity St. Vincent made unsuccessful efforts to put an end to the great schism. He refused all ecclesiastical dignities. Even the cardinal's hat, and only craved to be appointed apostolical missionary. Now began those labors that made him the famous missionary of the fourteenth century. He evangelized nearly every province of Spain, and preached in France, Italy, Germany, Flanders, England, Scotland, and Ireland. Numerous conversions followed his preaching, which God Himself assisted by the gift of miracles. Though the Church was then divided by the great schism. The saint was honorably received in the districts subject to the two claimants to the Papacy. He was even invited to Mohammedan Granada, where he preached the gospel with much success. He lived to behold the end of the great schism and the election of Pope Martin V. Finally. Crowned with labors, he died April 5, 1419. His feast day is April 5. size:1"3/4 x 1&quo

Spina Christa RELIC Rosary Reliquary Crucifix Saint Dominic Agnus Dei Catacombs
This antique rosary is made up of"spina cristi" the seeds from a thorny plant said to be what Christ's crown of thorns was made of. Comes from the Zizyphus Spina-Christi plant. Native to the Middle East. The reliquary crucifix opens with a screw which is in working order. Inside are 3 relics: St Dominic, Lamb of God(Agnus Dei) and the Earth from the Catacombs. The main strip reads"Lignum arboris S. P. Dominici" which translates from Latin to"The wood from the tree of Holy Father Dominic" Portions of the word Agnus can be seen and I believe would probably read"Agnus Dei" and refer to piece of wax in the center, which is the Lamb of God. Also there is a small bit of dirt on the right side which is dirt from the Roman catacombs. The crucifix is 1" x 3/4" tall with the bail and the screw intact. ... moreThis is a beautiful reliquary rosary and it is in good condition. Perfect for a collection and very scarce.
