Lovely Antique Circa 1800s Hand Carved Wood Pediment Piece I have to tell you about the auction that I went to this week. It was in Geneva Illinois. In a sandstone building that was built before the Civil War. The sale was the final liquidation of an antique store(they‘d had one previous auction- so much stuff, they had to have two) that used to operate out of this location- but the building has been closed, as well as the business, for over 20 years following the passing of the previous owners. Now, we’re talking two stories, an attic and a basement PACKED with antiques- it’s hard to imagine, and all of it just sitting for two decades. These folks had amassed a huge antique collection- many many items dating back to the early 1800s and before. There’s some gorgeous pieces of primitive Americana that I found. I also have the last of my farm auctions and South Dakota finds listed this week, so there’s something for everyone! I was saying in one of my other listings how I bought a whole large box filled with a mixture of old antique hand carved pediments at the auctiion- I'll be listing them for weeks. So be sure to keep checking. This one is soooo pretty- and, it has one nail sticking out the back which I've left where it is, because I want you to see that it is an old forged iron sqaure nail. I don't know if this piece came off of a larger architectural piece, or if it was a piece of furniture, but whatever it was, it was grand, for sure. Measuring 5 1/8" widest, it is 8 1/8"tallest and 1 3/4" thickest. It weighs 1/2 lb and is all hand carved out of one solid piece of wood. The finish is beautiful on this one- a little dusty(it needs a cleaning, I have not cleaned it orr messed with the as found patina in any way) but really, with veryvery little wear that can be seen. I'm in love with the feet of the bird- I just can't stop looking at them- the carving is incredible. I purchased a whole box full of old carved pediments removed from their original home- some reallyreally stunning pieces. So you'll want to keep checking in the next coulple of weeks. Although this fella has some damage, I just couldn't let that get in the way of how beaitiful he is. Now, I don't know if he came off of a piece of furniture, or was part of an architectural wall piece, but wherever he lived, it was grand for sure. I'm not sure what the wood is. The condition is good. There are no breaks, cracks or repairs to the pieces. There are some scratches. I purchased the pieces at an estate sale years ago. The pieces measures 17" tall by 8" wide across the bottom by 1-1/4 inch thick There are holes in the bottom for a wood peg attachment and holes in the"S" curve where something was once attached. The crown at the top is nicely shaped with Eastlake Spoon Carvings The ends have nice carved leaves. The center has 3 carved flowers and 2 raised panels. It would be great above a door or window. Listing new items from loooots of places this week- we went up to Antiques on the Bluff in beautiful St. Joseph Michigan as we always do this time of year, and I found some really unique oldees. I'm also still listing items from the Route 127 sale in Ohio, and the antique store auction- sososo many cool things- you'll want to keep checking! This one is such a curiosity to me! I don't know if it was made to be an architectural pediment. Or a furniture pediment, but it appears to me as if it was made an never used. How sad, don't you think, because it is a hands-down gorgeous one of a kind piece. Now, I'm calling it old vintage in my title, but I do believe that it could be old enough to be antique. I purchased some very cool and very old antique pediments ... moreat the antique store auction. This is one of my favorites. It's carved from one piece of solid turned wood- you can see the marks on either end from the turning, and the carving is of two lady's heads- one upside down, depending upon how you tunn it. The detail is exquisite- please supersize and look at all of my photos. It doesn't appear to have ever been stained or varnished- the dark color of the patina is natural, I do believe. That being said, I do think that it looks lighter in my photos on my screen than it does to the eye. It measures 2 3/4" wide, 3 3/4" deep and 13 3/4" tall. It's heavy, weighing a smidge under 2 lbs. The back as wells as the ends are flat. It is in excellent solid and sturdy condition. There's minor small cracks to the wood where there is no movement at all. There's some teenie nicks and nibbles to the wood- and one that looks like it could have been a fallen out knot, or original- I'm showing it in photo 6 and it's on one of the ends. VERY NICE ANTIQUE SOLID WALNUT CARVED EMBELLISHED PEDIMENT
Up for bid is a very nice Victorian era. Antique solid walnut furniture pediment. Standing 12" high x 25-3/4" wide x 1-1/2" or better thick, you'll find find carved grapes and leaves. There are a few cracks in the wood backing, but they have been fixed and so the pediment itself is very structurally sound. The pediment, I believe was part of a headboard to a bed, however, what you see is all I found. This would be a nice accoutrement to hang on the wall above a window opening, a doorway or a mirror, to add just a hint more of embellishment to any room in the house. Shipping and insurance will be $18.00, except to Hawaii, Alaska and all international destinations, where I will ship to, however, costs tend to be a bit higher. This is a nice arched Victorian walnut pediment with leaf carvings and a nice lyre design center medallion. It measures 48 1/2" wide x 9 1/2" high in the center. The top of the middle rod of the lyre has been broken off which you can see in the last picture posted. Otherwise it is in good condition. Antique Primitive Carved Wood Architectural Salvage Pediment 3 Misc. pieces
Three unique vintage architectural salvage wood pieces. All are in very good vintage condition. Will need some cleaning, I will leave that up to their new owner, I don't know enough about old wood to clean it for fear or damaging it. First there is a nice hand carved pediment that measures 18 in. across X 5 in. at the tallest place and 3/4 in. in depth. Next is a unique fan shaped piece with some carving on it, the measurements are 10 in. from point to top X 8 in. at it's widest points and 1 in. at it's deepest depth. Last is a very detail carved rosette, some chipping on 2 of the petals(see pictures) there is a hole drilled in the middle. Overall very nice pieces. Thank you for looking.

Classic. Architectural, gingerbread salvage. Great for a ONE OF A KIND wall shelf to display anything from plates to family photos. Guaranteed 100+ years old. Wonderful, repeating arch, Eastlake carving. It appears to be 2 woods, including oak framing. It measures a whopping 63 1/2 inches long, 11 inches tall, and 4 3/8 inches deep. ANTIQUE EASTLAKE VICTORIAN PIERCE CARVED WALNUT PEDIMENT / FRETWORK PANELS
This is a very nice Victorian pierce carved walnut pediment or panel. It measures 39 3/4" wide. It would be easy enough to remove the two carved panels and use them separately if you wanted.
