Antique Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Jug; Old Salt Glaze 19th Century Pottery
Up for bids we offer a beautiful. 19th Century, 2 gallon, stoneware jug in exceptional condition. Right out of an estate, this salt glazed piece has a folksy, cobalt blue floral decoration on the front as well as an underscored number"2" above it. It was found in the western New York region and isn't signed by the pottery that produced it but there's a good chance it is a Lyons- Fisher or Burger jug. It has a gorgeous, dark, and earthy coloring along with that speckled, salt glazed surface. This piece is very well preserved and has only one small pitted type flaw near the handle. There are no other chips, not even around the spout or the bottom edge. The handle hasn't been broken and there aren't any cracks or hairlines anywhere on the piece. As a little bonus, we'll include the very nice, hand-carved wooden ... morestopper it was found with. The jug measures about 13 1/2 inches high with a bottom diameter of 8 1/4 inches while the very top measures 2 1/4 inches across. As far as condition goes, this is the nicest piece of decorated stoneware we have ever found. It would make a super addition to any collection and also a top notch example to start one off! This F. B. Norton& Co. Worchester. Mass. jug came from an auction in Vermont. When I bid on the jug, I had no idea it had problems. The top has chips, see the 6th picture. The bottom has one chip, see the 7th picture. There is some light chipping in the design, see the 8th picture. The handle has two cracks, see the 10th and 11th picture, and there is a crack around the top, see the 5th, 6th, and last pictures. It measures 14.5 inches tall and 8.5" in diameter at the base.

Little Speckled Brown Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug w/ Cobalt Blue Flowers on both sides What a Wonderful addition to your collection! This is an Pennsylvania Estate Find. A Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Jug or Bottle. Now let me say, I am not a collector of Stoneware. I did however try to research this jug. I must have looked at Thousands of pieces of Stoneware, putting in every keyword I could think of for this type of slip or glaze, and could find nothing like it. I will welcome any idea's from a collector! I do not know it's exact age. It may be vintage, Antique, but it is not marked, like most modern pieces. It is quite beautiful. With it's speckled or mottled Brown with a slight Red Rust shading glaze or slip. I don't think it's Spongeware. And with the lighter clay base is seen dotted in background, those surface dots ... moreare indented. Giving it a slightly rough surface. The brown glaze is glossy. But the Cobalt Blue floral decoration, shading slightly to a lighter Sky Blue on edges, is very high gloss. Heavy. Weighs ~2.5 pounds! Lyons Whiskey Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Snake and three XXX in Black The jug is either 1 or 2 gallons. It is 13 ½ inches tall 24 inches at widest point and 18 inches at least wide area. It has a cobalt snake with Lyons above in cobalt blue. The back has three large XXX in black that I just found out was added later. And can be removed. There is small surface chip at the very bottom not very noticable and some light staining from age. This jug is very heavy. It still has the wooden plug.

Hello- This charming bulbous jug is 5 1/2" tall and the same in diameter. It is some kind of stoneware- which looks reddish on the surface. But is also greyish underneath. The glaze is a very shiney black which turns blue where thicker. It is full of metallic bursts in the glaze. The is pure white with a slight uniform crackle which suggests some real age. It could be earlier than 1900- I don't know. It is inscribed underneath- it looks like McCall. Please email with questions.

This whiskey jug was in my grandparents garage for years. It is a gallon ju g made of heavy stoneware ceramic with a glass like salt glaze on the top and inside. There are no markings. The jug has a carved wooden stopper. The glaze is unusual in that the color is not as brown as other jugs like it. But a blue black color except for right around the bottom edge of the glaze which is brownish. The ju g stands 12 inches tall and the diameter is 6-1/2 inches. Thanks for looking!

Up for auction is a 1850's Edmands& Co. 2 gallon cobalt blue decorated speckled bird on branch stoneware jug. This image is of a lovely speckled bird perched on a branch. The specks on the bird and the leaves are heavily raised dots of cobalt blue. There are some large cracks to the body(as shown in photos) Also a chip on the handle and a couple of small chips to the bottom of this jug. However, this does not take away from this rare image, still in such great condition. Edmands& Co. was in Charlestown, Mass. Edward and Thomas Edmands ran the pottery company from 1852- 1868. NY over a compact tight cluster hand slipped blue scroll coil spray dotted leafy floral cluster typical of slip cup decoration(slip is liquid clay) The decorations sits well mid front to the jug and shows nicely in overall balanced scheme ... moreto the viewer, this one had some thought exercised during manufacture as so many other finds are simply routine, unimaginative, and in some cases, downright hurried and sloppy! The platform neck is well formed and strong, and loop strap rear single handle is tight, easy grip, highly looped, and attached firmly no issues. This is a clean nice stoneware example for anyone's proud display collection. Unmarked to capacity, I would say it is best equivalent to just about 1 1/2 gallon size. Condition Report: One very tiny stone ping above coil spray. Triangular shaped stone ping on right side upper shoulder from which emanates a line of vertical glaze drip. Overall pleasing light grey coloration with a small Texas-state shaped beige blotch to left side midway. This is smooth. Just a kiln color aberration in the manufacture. No kiss marks. Clean sound bottom with tiny felt pad dots to prevent scratching. No fry to cobalt, No hairlines. No repairs. Just HONEST old piece that has sat last 30+ years in a collection in the area in which is was made. This is a vintage(possibly antique) pitcher decorated profusely with transferware in cheery blues and reds with an Asian theme. There is transferware on both sides. Around the rim, a little"cameo" on the very front and on the inside of the spout. There is gold leaf decorating the handle. Measures 11" to the top of the handle. Has a small chip on the bottom rim that can only be seen when upside down. The interior is quite clean. I saw a tiny bit of crazing here and there. The jug is hallmarked with an Urn with"M" and"F" inside the urn. Then"England" I'm unable to identify the maker or the age of the jug. Will be competently packed for safe arrival. Antique Robinson Clay Products Co. Stoneware 1 Gallon Jug Lamp /Blue stripe
Antique stoneware jug made by the Robinson Clay Products Co. founded in Akron. Ohio in 1856. The one gallon jug is decorated with a very artistic design with 2 sets of blue bands seperated with a white band in the middle. This jug was custom made into a lamp by a lighting firm in Avon, Ohio in 1992 for my home. The base of the jug was drilled and has a turned hardwood base and top with internal wiring. This jug lamp is in great condition with no chips. Cracks, stains or repairs. Works perfectly. There is a tight line extending about 2 1/2 in. from the spout on one side which does not effect the stability of the jug. The lamp is approx 12 1/2 in. tall and 7 1/4 in. diameter base. Good condition with no knicks or cracks. There is some small crazing in the glaze with some mild staining in the crazing in places- not too bad. Nice old toby. ANTIQUE POTTERY PRIMATIVE WHISKEY JUG POTTERY STONEWARE BLUE HEART 2 GALLON 218 Offering one unmarked glaze stoneware whiskey jug without lid or cork. The glazing on top is of brown swill. the bottom portion glazed in off white. Appears to be a two piece molded handle being put on after the jug mold and then glazed. Shows very little wear and observed no scratches couple of dings here and there. Check the picture. A few pin tip glaze flaws as you would expect. B ottom is lightly glazed in white. bottom is lightly crazed and has a small crack that has not hone through. You can see it in the picture. The 2 gal. jug measures about 14"h X 9" w. This jug comes from an estate with Multi generations of wonderful antiques. I'm not a stoneware expert so please review photos. There are a couple of chips to the edge(see photo) which seem to happen prior to the glazing. On the bottom there are several scratches to the glaze finish(again see photo) All in all a very attractive jug! Here is a very pretty antique staffordshire milk jug in the Catskill Moss pattern. It has an edge chip and some discoloration at the spout. See pics 3 and 4. The chip is there, and fits snugly in place, this could be easily restored. Other than that flaw, the piece is in very good condition, clean inside, see pic4, base is as shown, pattern is clear and bright, no crazing or other flaws noted. Primitive Antique Stoneware Jug Old estate find. This is a nice Primitive Antique Stoneware Jug with large script blue cobalt decoration. applied handle and early glaze. The cobalt writing says"J. N. Kuh& Co, Newark N. J. From what I can find out, these jugs were made by the Fulper Pottery of Flemington, NJ, for the companies whose names are written on the jugs. The script writing is quite dramatic and has a great look. The jug is in very good condition with some chips on the outside of the top rim and one shallow chip on the side of the handle- no cracks. Solid and sturdy. Otherwise, just some minor glazing flaws. Great stylish script writing on the front in a dark cobalt blue. Design is very well done.
