Antique Cherry 4-drawer Dresser with Integrated Locking Vanity - a Keeper!
Coming from estate of a serious antiques collector is this beautiful dresser with integral. Locking vanity set on top, complete with key that works. The wood type is cherry, we think, and solid(hidden parts may be other type, not sure but see photos) Overall it measures 42" wide x 43" high x 20-1/2" deep(vanity part is 4-1/2" high x 36" wide x 10-1/2" deep) The only issues are it shows years of faithful use and some wear. Top of vanity's right end a bit loose. But the finish still shines. This diminutive antique mahogany chest was probably a vanity or jewelry chest for a man with one drawer and original brass handle. It is mostly handmade with a hand dovetailed drawer. Hand chamfered drawer bottom and hand sawn arch ends. The front of the drawer appears to be burl. The front of the drawer and front legs are reeded. I would date it as early 1800's. Antique Mahogany Vanity W/mirror Circa 1880
This vanity I acquired from my grandmother about 40 years ago but that doesn't even begin to date it. It had originally belonged to her grandmother. It was built originally in the late 1800's. I dated it based on what could be found for it's style and that my grandmother remembered it when she was a young child. My grandmother was born in 1885. It came by horse and buggy from St Louis in 1898. It has had a couple of changes since then. One was new drawers in the 1930's and the other was a new mirror after arriving here as the original broke during the trip. The vanity will be shipped in one or two boxes. It has several small screws which will allow the legs to be removed as well as the drawers and mirror. It is a very simple task to reassemble and all pieces will be marked to be sure they are in the right place. The vanity ... moreis quite strong and the drawers slide easily. I would live to keep the piece but am needing to sell most things due to an upcoming move to much smaller space.
