Antique Catholic OIL STOCK Set of 2, W. J. Feeley Co. Pre-1921 Priests Baptism
Up for auction is a cased set of 2 oil stock made by W.J. Feeley Co of Providence. Rhode Island. This company was a silver goods company in Providence that specialized in religious wares; the company was in business from 1870 until 1920, so the set is before 1921. There are two canisters(of the original three) here; one is marked SC on the top, and the other marked OS, noting the kind of oils they were meant to contain. OS, or oleum sanctum, is the oil of catechumens. This kind of sacred oil is used in the ceremonies of Baptism, and derives its name from that fact- a catechumen being an instructed convert who is about to receive the Sacrament of Baptism. SC stands for sanctum chrisma, or the oil of the Chrism. This is mixture of oil of olives and balsam. Blessed by a bishop in a special manner and used in the administration of certain sacraments ... moreand in the performance of certain ecclesiastical functions.They measure approximately 1 1/2" tall with a base diameter of about 1 5/16" They each weigh approximately 32 grams. Or 1.1 ounces. I am not sure of the metal. The tops show some very fine scratches to the finish, and the sides and bottoms show wear from taking it out and in of the box, with some loss to the gold wash. They are stamped W.J. Feeley with the shield on the bottom, with works I can't make out, one of which appears to be"SILVER" See the last photo, where I'm holding the container in my fingers, showing the bottom of the clearest one. Looking at other items the company made, I would hazard a guess that it is silver with a gold wash. Please research others and judge to the best of your ability. The hinges on the lids work fine, and the containers show wear from use. Check photos closely. They are housed in a box, the inside of which has round openings for 3 of these total. The box is made of wood with a covering similar to that on the cover of old bibles, and measures about 6" long and 3" front to back. The box shows wear, as you can see, and has a small chip of the

Up for auction is a theca reliquary containing a relic from St. Gemma Galgani. Out of deference. The relic inside will be included as a gift for the winning bidder of the theca and document. Included with this piece is the athentication raised-seal certificate. The theca is silver in color and measures 1 3/8" in diameter. VERY BIG AGNUS DEI WAX BLESSED BY PIUS VI (1775-99) DATED 1778
I am selling an original Italian Agnus Dei blessed by Pope Pius VI. In front we have the lamb of God. The year(1778) the Pope Pius VI coat-of-arms, in the fourth year of His pontificate. Around the edges in latin« Ecce Agnus Dei. Qui tollis peccata mundi» On back the image of Pope Saint Pius V with Pastoral Cross. It measures inches: 6.1/2 tall x 5 1/ 2 wide. Really Rare to find such a big Agus Dei in this superb condition. A lovely antique patina is present. The name"Agnus Dei" was given to special discs of wax impressed with the figure of a lamb. The"Lamb of God" which were blessed by the reigning Pope in a ceremony so solemn that the Pope was said to consecrate the Sacramentals. In earlier times. On Holy Saturday, the Pope, with the assistance of the Archdeacon of Rome, prepared the wax from the previous years ... morepaschal candles, adding both chrism and balsam to the wax. The Agnus Deis were subsequently consecrated on the Wednesday of Easter week and distributed on Saturday of the same week. GLASS Relic Reliquary SAINT AURALIA Petronella Martyr 1700s St. Peter's Daughter
This is an extremely rare type of reliquary with a substantial relic of Saint Auralia. Martyr. There were 2 Saint Aurelias who were martyrs, but when I obtained this relic from the estate of a French Archbishop, the family had an inventory, hand written by the Archbishop. He had this reliquary listed as"Ste. Aurelie Peyronelle. Saint Auralie Petronell was said to be Saint Peter's daughter. But, if you scroll down and read her biography, you will see current church thinking. She was martyred in the 1st century. This reliquary is made of hand blown glass. Surrounding the holy relic is white wool. The relic is labeled S. Aurely M. It stands 4 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches in diameter. The reliquary is sealed with parchment. And a red silk ribbon with a beautiful was seal. It is in perfect condition. I date this relic to the early ... moreto mid 1700s, Italy. This will need to be shipped double boxed. Priority. Hi. What an incredible reliquary! Containing a 5" section of Saint Julias. Veteran Soldier. Please see below for more information about this miraculous saint! This was part of a French Archbishop's major relic collection. In his hand written inventory. He listed this as a" cathédrale reliquairy de l'évêque. Beziers, St. Jlias, Vet. M. or"Cathedral bishop's alter relic. Beziers Cathedral, Saint Julias, Veteran" also known as" Cathédrale Saint-Nazaire-et-Saint-Celse de Béziers" whose bishophricate was terminated in 1800's. That means that while the cathedral remained. It was no longer the seat of a bishop. Many such"demotions" occurred after the revolution, not as a punishment or true demotions, but more as a reorganization under the new order. It is not unusual ... morefor a Cathedral relic to be removed and to change hands during this time. Not all Catherdral relics were truly owned by the Cathedral which housed it, but oftentimes"lent" to the Cathedral by an ecclesiastic or bishop. Who had the rights to remove the relic and/or gift it. This gorgeous reliquary stands almost 16" high. It is made of brass gilded with 24 karat gold. Inside is housed a HUGE relic of saint Julian. Soldier, Martyr. Arm. The relic is sealed with a wax seal on the top, and also on the underside of the reliquary with 4 red silk threads and a perfect wax seal. The entire relic is covered with a bell Shaped crystal cover. The relic is marked, and written S. Julian, Maytyr. The relic itself measures 5" high. The entire reliquary weighs 6.3 pounds. It has a"roof" and cross which is removable to access the relic, although the relic is completely sealed 2 times. You can touch the actual relic, but not remove it. This is the most prized relic ever. From the estate of a French Archbishop. Here we have a very very large piece of the TRUE CROSS, 2" long. This relic is housed in a hand blown glass vessel. I have seen these types of reliquaries before. Convents and monasteries who fashioned reliquaries would store prized relics, not in folded paper as more than a few ebay sellers always list.mysteriously always with the same handwriting and seal, contact me if you have any questions about whether a certain relic is authentic or a possible forgery. These hand blown glass reliquaries were usually STACKED ON THEIR SIDES, with the paper or velum sealing the opening exposed and written of for identification, exactly as this one is. The last custodian, the archbishop had this relic for many years in a chapel, housed in a huge, ornate ... moregold gilded reliquary seated on a carved pillar. see pic) This auction is for the glass reliquary with the relic of the true cross only. The measurements are as follows: height 4 3/4" high. 2 1/2 wide. The relic of the true cross measures about 2" long and 3/8" wide at least. The wood of the true cross is a deep dark, dark deep brown color. It is wrapped in pure white cool. With a piece of velum wrapped around it reading LIGNO CRUCIS DN for Wood of the Cross of our Lord. You are bidding on a nice vintage Catholic reliquary medal containing a relic of St. Francis of Assisi. The medal is cross-shaped. On one side is the image of St. Francis. Encircled by the Italian words"Polvere della tomba di S. Francesco Assisi" Literally translated this means"powder of the tomb of St. Francis of Assisi" On the other side is a chamber containing the relic- a pale tan granular material on a red fabric background. The relic covers an area that measures 3/8 of an inch by 2/8 of an inch in size. The sealed tomb of St. Francis beneath the main altar of the lower basilica in Assisi was excavated in 1818. The saint's remains were exhumed and placed in a new crypt underneath the lower basilica. This tomb was reopened in 1978 so a scientific study of the saint's remains could be done. Her father died when the girl was very young. After hearing Saint Francis of Assisi preach in the streets, Clare confided to him her desire to live for God, and the two became close friends. On Palm Sunday in 1212, her bishop presented Clare with a palm, which she apparently took as a sign. With her cousin Pacifica, Clare ran away from her mother‘s palace during the night to enter religious ... morelife. She eventually took the veil from Saint Francis at the Church of Our Lady of the Angels in Assisi, Italy. Clare founded the Order of Poor Ladies(Poor Clares) at San Damiano. And led it for 40 years. Intact but with brown age stains on the cloth. The frame is of origin with signs of wear and age such as chips and marks in the wood. With hanging hook on back.
