This listing is for an 18th Century English George II Tall Case Chest of Two over Four Drawers. Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and ... moreall original locks, circa 1740-50. It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. The case rests over four bracket feet, one rebuilt,

Can't find that perfect piece? Let us know. Maybe we have what you're looking for! More pictures follow below. Item SKU, MB438, Shipping, Free! ... moreCirca date, 1900, Condition, Good, Wood, Mahogany, Dimensions, Width- 20" Depth- 21" Height- 61" Price includes free shipping! Made in England. Circa 1900 Mahogany Green leather inlaid steps Sturdy and strong Minor surface wear, Here is a very hard to find set of antique library steps. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid mahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Each step is covered in gorgeous green leather. A beautiful and interesting addition to any home or office. The turned mahogany balance pole is capped with a brass top. Have Questions? We would be happy to answer any questions that you have about our furniture or our policies. Please feel free to contact us by phone. By email, or in person! English Classics ©

The exquisite work on this Victorian writing box is quite outstanding. Intricate quality work and highly decorative. The box is finished in Walnut with ... moreexotic woods used to create a plethora of exciting designs on all sides of the box, a true sign of quality to have this fine work all around. The box does not have a key, the fitted interior would be damaged if the lock was removed. Once opened, you can see that all of the internal brass fittings have been professionally re-polished to gleam and a new writing skiver has been fitted with gold embossing. There is a cut crystal inkwell with a lift off lid(a few rough spots around the interior neck, mentioned purely for accuracy) a removable pen tray and another little lidded compartment for pen nibs and the like. Each side of the writing slope lifts to reveal a storage area below for stationery, letters and other papers. A really superb box in superb condition, measuring 13 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 6 1/2" tall while closed. Stationery and pen for display purposes only and not included in the sale.
