This listing is for an 18th Century English George II Tall Case Chest of Two over Four Drawers. Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and ... moreall original locks, circa 1740-50. It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. A carved crown molding wraps around the front and sides. Repaired in numerous areas along, completing the smooth finished top of the case. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. The case rests over four bracket feet, one rebuilt,

18th Century American Antique Pennsylvania Chippendale Chest of Drawers Dresser
Click for a slideshow of detailed pictures! American Chippendale Period Cherry Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. C. 1770-1800 Item# 120109RPR08 This is a fine Chippendale chest of the period. Crafted in rural Pennsylvania during the years of 1770-1800 of solid Cherry. The top is crafted of two boards, dovetailed along the edges to the side boards, a fine curved molding wrapping around the entire face and sides, projecting over the facade of four graduated drawers flanked by fluted quarter columns capped and footed with turned capitals. The drawers are typical of Pennsylvania, incredibly solid with very thick secondary woods of solid pine, hand chiseled behind the hardware and each with original locks and pulls. The bottoms are hand chamfered, beveled to rabbet into the side boards and nail at the back with iron hand forged nails. The drawers ... moreare divided with cherry dividers, backed by half-depth boards of pine for partial dustboards. Three pine boards are nailed horizontally to the chest, the boards routed to create no gap, beveled along the sides with a chisel and nailed evenly. The chest rests over four scroll cut ogee bracket feet, replaced but almost certainly in near form of the original feet. The proportions and overall flow of the chest are beyond striking. With unusual width. This chest has a sense of presence that is treasured in works of Pennsylvania Chippendale. This is a piece you will certainly treasure in your collection, with a crispness to the fluting and carved molding that sets it apart. Measurements: 43 5/8" wide x 22 1/2" deep x 34" high Condition Report: 1. Early finish. Though not original 2. Left side is crafted of one board. The old shrinking crack is filled 3. Right side is one board but for a 1/2" strip along the back 4. Hardware pins are mismatched. Some certainly replaced, all of the period. We believe the hardware is mostly original, including all locks. Most locks still have original hand forged screws. No key. 5. Top drawer with square replaced patch on drawer botto
Fine American New England 18th Century Federal Chest of Drawers Dresser, Antique
Please note. We have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description: This listing is for a Federal Period Red Painted Maple Chest of Drawers. Probably Connecticut c. 1780-1800. It is a gorgeous work of art with a rather early and wonderful crusty red and black painted surface over the primary woods. The top projects over the case, finishing in soft molded edges over four graduated drawers. Each drawer features fully original hand cast batwing hardware and faux-keyhole escutcheons with numerous layers of original and later paints- one picture below shows a faux-keyhole escutcheon removed from the case, depicting the gritty surface behind it as well as detailed closeups of the back of the hardware. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with broad and rough dovetails, using what appear to ... morebe Eastern Pine for the drawer frame and bottom. The bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the frame, and each drawer bottom is nailed at the back, though many nails are later with only a few originals. Each drawer is divided by cross bars that through-dovetail into and through the side of the case and backed by pine drawer runners nailed inside the case with rose head iron nails(one drawer runner top right replaced) The bottom of the case is uniquely designed, sliding into rabbets in the sides of the case along the entire bottom, locking at the front with an exposed through-dovetail. The top, likewise built to last, is joined at the top with a sliding dovetail joint that allows the top to expand and shrink easily without causing cracking or pressure. The back of the case features two board construction, one board being incredibly wide at 20" the second board being 13" wide with a soft ovular flow between the back feet. Original iron rose heads line the perimeter of the case back, locking the very thick secondary wood to the case permanently with only one replaced nail. The entire chest rests over fully original well formed scroll cut bracket feet, swelling deeply a

H:37"1/2' W:59" 1/2' D:29" ... moreA little history on france at this time. Louis XV(February 15. 1710– May 10, 1774) the Beloved" ruled as King from 1715 until his death. Louis XV enjoyed a favourable reputation at the beginning of his reign, however in time, his inability to reform the French monarchy; his lack of morals, and his foreign policy on the European stage lost him the support of his people, and he died as one of the most unpopular kings of France. At first he was popular and especially after a near-death illness in Metz in 1744 when the entire country prayed for his recovery. However, his weak and ineffective rule was a contributing factor to the general decline that culminated in the French Revolution. Popular faith in the monarchy was shaken by the scandals of Louis’s private life, and by the end of his life he had become unpopular. During this period despite the critics, the Marquise de Pompadour had an undeniable influence on the flourishing of French arts during the reign of Louis XV, a reign that is often considered the peak of French architecture and interior design. A patron of the arts, the Marquise amassed a considerable amount of furniture and objets d'art in her various estates.

American Chippendale Tall Chest of Drawers, Antique 18th Century Highboy, PA
American Chippendale Walnut Tall Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania c. 1770-90 Item# 130105FAH17 This is a Fine American Pennsylvania Chippendale Tall Chest. Circa the late 18th Century from 1770-90. It is a gorgeous antique chest of drawers crafted of solid walnut featuring a rectangle top crowned in a deep flaring cornice with three small drawers over a gallery of five graduated drawers flanked by fluted quarter-round columns on each corner, resting over original scroll cut ogee bracket feet. The top is dovetailed to the case behind the surrounding crown molding. The case sides are crafted of two solid walnut boards. Each with wonderful tight grains. Each of the three smaller drawers slide easily over full length dust boards, protecting the contents beneath them from saw dust and dirt as they move in and out. Some strengthening has been done ... moreto the interior around these drawers, several boards added to strengthen the structure- these additions have not resulted in any alteration of the case and can easily be reversed at a later date if desired. The five stacked graduated drawers are solid poplar with dovetail construction. Each with chamfered bottoms that rabbet into the sides with nailed back ends(some tacks along the back edge modern) Bail pull brass hardware and plain brass keyhole escutcheons line the face of the drawers. The back of the case is constructed of solid hand planed edge boards secured vertically to the case, these nailed in place with hand forged iron nails supplemented by scattered modern nails. The case dovetails into the bottom board, each hidden with the only evidence of hidden dovetails found in the score marks in the corners inside. Each foot is original, with curving and flowing ogee form supported by replaced interior blocking(note the variation in oxidization suggesting much thicker secondary blocking) The back feet supports dovetail to the back feet. The attention to detail in every single aspect of this chest is typical of early American Pennsylvania craftsmanship. A fine selection

American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers, Pennsylvania Antique, 18th Century
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS Pennsylvania. C. last quarter of the 18th Century; with restorations Item# 1402JYP15PQ A very attractive piece executed in solid walnut. This delightful chest of drawers was crafted during the last years of the 18th Century in Pennsylvania. The bold crown molding surrounding the finished walnut top projects over a tidy facade of graduated drawers: three small over two medium over three large drawers, each hand dovetailed with deeply chamfered bottoms set in flanking grooves and nailed along the back edges. The drawers retain their original brasses, beautiful hand filed pulls with mostly original nuts and posts. The backboards were removed at one point, these appearing to be chestnut ... moreand bevelled along the top edge. The entire case rests over scrolling bracket feet with robust interior blocking; we are not entirely sure if all of the feet are replaced or if portions are original, as there are several parts of the feet that seem very old with a pure oxidization and hand tooling that would suggest originality- note the beautiful hand dovetailing of the front feet, this left exposed along the sides as part of the overall design. With clean and attractive lines. Absolutely gorgeous flowing walnut boards and intricate original brasses, this is a beautiful chest for anyone passionate about rural American forms. Measurements: 39 3/4" wide x 20" deep x 44 3/8" high Condition Report: Refinished- a very attractive chest of drawers with the minor nicks and scratches expected with an antique; most feet and blocking replaced- several facings appear to be original. All hand carved and some with deep oxidization, but we are not certain that any of the feet are original; all feet have cracks, but all feet are very strong and sturdy; molding around base replaced; brasses are original; missing one lock(keyhole filled) one drawer lip repaired, one drawer with two

Antique 18th Century Walnut Queen Anne Highboy Chest of Drawers 1725-1750
Description Fine 18th century highboy with beautiful burl walnut veneer and cabriole legs ending in club feet. Made in New England. Torus molding below the cornice is the front to a hidden drawer. This is an earlier highboy and was made circa in 1725-1750. Provenance: Northeast Auctions. Portsmouth, NH. Dimensions 69 inches high. 22 inches wide, and about 18.5 inches deep. 69x22x38 Condition The condition of the highboy is very good for its age. It is structurally sound with nice color. The are some places where small amounts of the veneer is missing(see photos) But this is normal for a pieces of this age and I don't believe it takes away from its appearance. Also, the molding on the left side of the upper right small drawer is missing. I have just ignored this, but if it bothers you it would be an easy fix. The drawers all open, but ... moresome stick a little at times. Finally, the highboy is married-i.e. the top and bottom were not originally associated. Pick-up and Shipping You can pick up the highboy or arrange to have it shipped to you. We live about 25 minutes northwest of Springfield. MA. We are less than 2 hours from Boston, about 1.5 hours from Albany and about 3 hours from New York City. If you want to have it shipped, we suggest considering At Your Service Transportation, Inc.
