The piece itself is 11"x 9" with the litho print slightly smaller. It is one of Warner Sallman's famous lithographs of Jesus. Copyrighted 1942-1969 by Kriebel and Bates. Litho in U.S.A. Very hard to photograph the richness and depth of cold in this piece. You can see on the shiny edge of from how thick the finish is; whish gives it the beautiful cold but makes it more difficult to photograph. The back is ready to hang by the sawtooth hook on back. Brass and Wood Christian Cross Wall Plaque / Paperweight; 9” x 3½”
We are selling a beautiful wood and brass Christian cross. This consists of a block of dark wood(teak or mahogany or rosewood) into which a cross of 1/8th inch thick bar brass is inlayed. The wood is slotted to receive the cross. And the brass cross sits halfway imbedded into the wood. The fit of the cross into the wood is tight. The wood block is precisely cut and finished, and the brass itself has a nice aged mellow golden color/ tone. The back of the plaque has a pocket to allow hanging from a nail in the wall. Alternatively. Since the wood is very flat, this could make a nice paperweight or desk decoration. Approximately 9" x 11" There is one spot where the picture has a gap away from the wood board- almost appears that it was always that way but can't say for sure- the sides are all tight and have not moved from original placing so not sure how the bubble got there. There is only one tiny spot in the water where it appears a tiny place was scratched off- not sure if it shows very well in the photos- it is probably only 1/8" There is a signature at the bottom right- don't know what it says. I am not an expert but I do believe the metal to be brass it is non magnetic. the plaque itself is quite heavy almost 2 and a half pounds. It is a very beautiful piece. Vintage Sacred Heart of Jesus on Piece of Wood with Bark Plaque. Approx 15-3/4" X 10" Approx. 1-1/2" thick near top, approx 1" thick near sides. There are some signs of age/use/wear. There are some crazing style lines in the picture from age, must be from the sealant that was applied. There are a few areas of color loss in the green color on the sides. There are two dings in the wood picture near the bottom of Jesus's robe, a small ding near both hands and again along the sides. There are some spots on the wood on the back, maybe some of the sealant or just how the wood is supposed to look. The hanger on the back does look rusted at the stapled ends and the small piece of material to hang has signs of age/use, which is easily replaced if desired. This is an extraordinary find- a Madonna and Child wall plaque carved from a solid block of olive( wood with painstaking attention to the smallest details. Particularly the sleeves of Mary's dress and along the edges of her mantle. Very expressive faces- serene, content, at peace. The plaque measures about eight inches tall. About 4-3/4 inches at its widest point. There is a hole drilled in the back of the wood for hanging. The base is just wide enough to prop the piece up at an angle. Appears to be made of Syroco wood and has beautiful coloring(Syroco is Syracuse Ornamental Co and made items of wood pulp that looked like hand carving- this company was founded in 1908) It is 10 1/2" wide and 7 1/2" high. Rescued from a Victorian turn of the century home in Pasadena. Calif, I believe this piece is pretty old. The"carving" is gorgeous with deep red roses and a crown. Condition. There a"light" in the shape of a cross as well as 2 sleeping sheep pictured on the plaque. It is made of wood and the verse and picture are"printed" with paint. There's an inscription on the back that indicates it was given as a gift in 1959. It measures nearly 10" wide. Nearly 5" high and is about 1/8" thick. There's a hanger on the back.
