AN ANTIQUE/VINTAGE FRENCH BRASS SHOWER COLLAR OR WAND
A rather interesting and unusual antique/vintage French shower collar or wand. Marked: Le Collier-Douche Mantelet& Fils Paris' Circa 1900. It's oval in shape and has perforations on one side only. It passes easily over the head and was/is designed to be placed around the shoulders to keep the hair dry. Quite fun and I think it would be hard to find another one. This is the sort of thing you never thought you'd need or want until you see it. And beats wearing a shower cap! It measures approx; The collar or wand is 11.5 x 9.5 inches- 29 x 24 cms. The length of the straight bit is 3 inches- 7.5 cms. The total length( including the fitting) is 5.5 inches- 14.4 cms The circumference of the collar is 1.5 inches- 4 cms. There is some light play in the'tap' and the size may not be a UK size. There are no dents or dings. It should be gleaming with a good polish. I have for sale this lovely old painted brass vertical letterbox cover- probably Victorian/ Arts and Crafts/ Edwardian. It is currently painted black. But the paint will come off with paint stripper. It still has fixing screws attached. The metal spring which keeps it closed has unfortuately snapped. But looks easy to replace/ repair. As is typical of the age. It is quite small- the opening measures 6.5 inches x 1 inch. The overall measurements are 7.5 inches x 2.5 inches. The fixing bolts are 2 inches long. A lovely decorative piece.
