The bottom circumference is 5.5" This pitcher is in mint condition and the inside has been done with a clear glaze while the outside is in a bisque feel. Gorgeous Antique Copper Lustre Jug/Pitcher, Grn Accent
Up for a 3 Day Auction is this Gorgeous Copper Lustre Jug. Copper Lustre was rediscovered in the very early 19th century from an ancient Persian Overglaze.although one source mentions Iraq. Josiah Wedgwood really perfected the work. This sort of earthenware had it's heyday from 1820 till 1850 particularly in the Staffordshire Potteries. Albert Longton also produced this ware in the 1870's. This Jug has no maker's marks. There are swerves and flourishes. On each side are a dancing couple depicted from an earlier time. The colors are a deep copper. With green accents. The inside is a cream color. The height of the pitcher is 7 inches at the spout and 8 inches at the top of the handle. The base is 4 and a half inches in diameter but for space displacement. The width would be more like 6 inches. There are two surface chips one on ... moreeach side of the rim. There is a minor hairline just up from one of the chips. Just up from that is a small area that may have had a sticker. I think that it needs some goo-be-gone but I'm out. This is a RARE beautiful antique stoneware jug! It is gray with a blue raised design all over it. It has two different crests on the bottom and top and there is a very scary face right next to the pour spout. I could not find another like it online or at antique dealers. Years ago when I had an antique dealer look at it she said it was made in the early 1900's. She said it was made to hold alcohol(Wine) or water. She estimated a $400 value. since then I have not found one like it. It is quite heavy around 8lbs. Stands 18" tall and is 10 1/2" at its widest point. There are no markings on the bottom except for the#78. If anyone has any info at all on this jug I would appreciate it. There are not any markings on it to show who had made it. The glaze that was put on it was not evenly applied as seen in the photos; that is around the bottom of the pitcher. However. I really don't know anything about this beautiful piece of pottery. It measures about 9 inches tall and 16 inches around at the widest point. It appears to be quite old and has Poland stamped on the bottom. There no cracks or chips just a few imperfections in the piece. Probably made originally as a presentation piece at a local tavern. It stands 8-3/4” tall, 6-1/2” wide at widest point. Transfer printed in black with hand-painted brilliant high enamel color palette and gilt rims. It was made by the Staffordshire England ironstone firm of Elsmore and Foster. Clayhills Pottery, Tunstall, which operated between 1853 and 1871. These puzzle jugs and related barware accessories were wildly popular in pubs and gambling establishments. This puzzle jug has a hole in the handle connected through an inner tube to a hole in the bottom. The unsuspecting drinker who picks up the jug without blocking the ... morehold in the handle will be surprised when the ale pours out of the bottom of their pitcher! Elsmore and Forster produced various examples of them. All decorated with engraved images relating to animals and popular entertainment, possibly used to publicize and advertise clowning events. Clown images printed on jugs are uncommon. The jug was decorated using old theatrical and chap book engravings which they transfer printed in different combinations on various-sized jugs. Loving cups and mugs. It features two full-length colorful engravings of the famous clown Joseph Grimaldi who set the gold standard in harlequinade pantomime. A beautiful English Mason’s IRONSTONE PITCHER / JUG, Circa 1830
rhusrluk rhusrluk Antique pottery in good taste– harmic.little A fine quality English ironstone hexagonal pitcher painted in the Imari palette of cobalt blue. Iron-red, orange and green; the base impressed Mason's Patent Ironstone. Staffordshire, circa 1830- 1840. Please see images below- A NO RESERVE AUCTION! Ironstone' so called was a sort of superior. Dense earthenware which appeared in quantity the 1830s and which, on account of its hardness and durability was superb for kitchen and dining wares. The exotic colors and decoration also caught the public taste for things both Japanese and Chinese and personified the appeal of the mysterious Orient. This beautiful jug is 6 ⅜ inches in height. It perfectly epitomizes the combination of Eastern and Western influences with its very English hexagonal shape. Its exotic scaly handle and ... morestriking palette of cobalt blue, orange, red and green(see the detailed photographs below) It is robustly potted and was clearly intended to last for a very long time in a working environment. This jug has sustained a long life but not without some problems. There is a faint hairline crack(about 1 ¾ inches in length) running down one side of the spout. There is a repair on the inside associated with this crack. Also. Near the back to the left of the handle is another repair, probably a chunk broken out, glued back, and repainted. This is a magnificent collector's or display item if you collect Mason's ironstone or desirable if you want a striking display piece for your mantel or kitchen table. BESWICK ENGLAND CREAM GLAZED EARTHENWARE PITCHER/JUG/VASE
A great little Beswick earthenware piece with an industrial feel(shaped somewhat like a metal oil pitcher) which is in contrast to it's glaze- a soft cream with the appearance and feel of satin. It was made in England in the early 1950's I believe. Judging from the base which is impressed with"BESWICK ENGLAND" and Pattern No. 1553-1" and stamped as well with"Beswick England" There is a tiny black blemish at the base of the handle(something embedded in the glaze) and there is a section of crazing in the glaze to the left of the handle; otherwise however i t is in excellent condition having no stains. Cracks, chips or scratches. It stands 17cm tall from its base to top of spout and is 12cm in diameter at the bottom of the bowl. I like this pitcher for its simplicity and sculptural shape which displays beautifully. ... moreAnd also for its functionality- with its wide spout it pours perfectly for sauces and the like. FABULOUS antique 1842 Jones and Walley, Gipsey pitcher jug, Witches Jug, Parian
This wonderful jug is from a Jones and Walley design of 1842 and is labeled as shown on the bottom.This art pottery pitcher dates to the period between 1842 to 1845. It is stoneware and was produced by Jones& Walley Pottery of Cobridge England in the Staffordshire area. The pitcher has a documentary cartouche on the base which says"Published July 1. 1842 by Jones& Walley Cobridge" It also has the word"Gipsey" This pattern has sometimes been referred to as"The Witch Pitcher" because it has elaborate detailed images. Referred to as'relief molded" depicting a woman wearing a pointed cap like a witch's, stirring a large pot over a fire. She and a companion are deep in a forest, which is detailed with tree trunks, twisted branches, and leaves. The opposite side of the pitcher shows a family, also ... moredeep in a forest in a shelter. The father is watching over a young child and a woman caring for a baby. The family dog lies at her feet. The base of the pitcher is made up of twisted tree roots which wrap around and then swoop upward to form a large tree trunk in front which swells into the pitcher's spout. This spout is covered with finely detailed leaves and the pitcher gives the impression of a tree sheltering these two groups of people. This is a 5& 1/2" tall pitcher featuring portraits of the"Guild Mayor& Mayoress Mr. and Mrs. Astley-Bell" in 1922. On the other side is a sheep with a cross and flag that may be the seal of Preston. The city featured on the pitcher. It has a gold rim around the top and a gold stripe down the handle. On the base it says"W. Eilmer Ltd. Preston. The printing is a little smeared so I am not certain of the spelling of the name. Antique Vtg Large 11" English Flow Blue Ironstone Pottery Wash Stand Jug Pitcher
This is a vintage(possibly antique) pitcher decorated profusely with transferware in cheery blues and reds with an Asian theme. There is transferware on both sides. Around the rim, a little"cameo" on the very front and on the inside of the spout. There is gold leaf decorating the handle. Measures 11" to the top of the handle. Has a small chip on the bottom rim that can only be seen when upside down. The interior is quite clean. I saw a tiny bit of crazing here and there. The jug is hallmarked with an Urn with"M" and"F" inside the urn. Then"England" I'm unable to identify the maker or the age of the jug. Will be competently packed for safe arrival.
