This horse ... morehead is more rare because it was cast from one mold. This process was known as being"Cast in the round" from one piece. Most casting found for sale are made from two molds. One for the left side and the other for the right side of the horses head. Once the molds have been cast they are joined which of course leaves a visible seam which over time can become loose and begin to separate. The horse head is heavy weighing approximately 8 pounds. It is difficult to get an exact weight since part of the old hitching post is still connected but can be removed if you prefer. The head measures 8" from the tip of the nose to the back of the horses mane. 9" tall, 3" wide, and the opening for the post is 2" in diameter. The total length including the pole is 36-1/2" The original tie up ring is still there but due to age it has come apart on one side. This is a truly wonderful and authentic piece that you would be proud to display. Thank you for looking and please email if you need additional information. They are beautifully executed in solid heavy wrought iron with several layers of original paint. They measure 46" tall when in the ground. 69" total length. Diameter is 8" at the widest point. There's a 2-1/2" movable iron ring resting on a large carved oval orb. The columns are nicely carved with acanthus leaf design. The lower bases are intact. In very good to excellent condition. Some time during the mid 20th Century being reinforced with slide on steel tubing. One of the steel casings has slid down. See pix, it can be left as-is, slid back on or removed though not by me. The upper columns will not disappoint. They're in fine condition. Solid as a rock. These have been in storage the last 40 yrs or longer. Absolutely stunning and ready for the foot of your path. The"Ranch" is featured on roadsideamerica dot com. It sits along side Highway 88 just east of the City of Stockton in the agriculturally rich San Joaquin Valley. This roadside attraction was a working hay ranch for decades. At one time the founder Frank Medina had the largest collection of windmills in the world. Frank himself was an interesting fella in his own right. He was the oldest man in the world with his own teeth never having a cavity. Windmill Ranch is now run by his son. It's not open to the public, but for the lucky few who happen by the"old cowboy" might just give you a tour of the place. The Ranch has dozens of windmills. The piece measures aprox 45 1/2" tall and is 4 1/2" square with original topper and end plate that you could attach to a sidewalk or platform of your choosing. The figural base without the capital is about 12 1/2 inches in diameter and extends up the column about 18 inches. It tapers to about 7 1/4 inches in diameter on top. The top plate is about 3 inches thick and 10 3/4 inches in diameter of very heavy cast iron. The bottom plate is about 15 inches in diameter overall and is 2 inches of very heavy cast iron. We found no chips or cracks. The figural area is very nice. There is some pitting on the top plate and in a few spots along the column. This is an antique outdoor column with seams. 2 Antique 63" Cast Iron Square Fluted Industrial Architectural Columns Philadelp
Incredible pair of antique cast iron industrial square fluted columns. Each column measures over 5' tall(63" 12" square at the base, and 10" at the top. Deep fluting on each side, great honest patina. One has more paint left on it than the other. I'm sure these must date to before the turn of the century, as they must weigh upwards of 3 to 4 hundred pounds each. I'm told these came from a major salvage job some years ago in Philadelphia, PA. Very minimal amount of casting flaws. No cracks or breaks. A few very small chips or flaws, but nothing to speak of. This pair of columns would look incredible as is in an outdoor space or blasted and refinished for a really dramatic touch to any room. Don't miss out on this large, unique pair. You are bidding on an antique Cast Iron Hitching Post/ Horse Tie. This piece in in the style of on acorn shape. There is one ring and an original chain(soldered on) The Post measures approximately 5 1/2" tall to the top of the ball. The ring measures approximately 3 1/4" across. The bottom of the post measures approximately 5 1/2" across and the inside measures approximately 5" across. This is a wide post. There are four holes around the outside of the post so it can be secured to a wooden post. The four holes a recessed. This is not a reproduction. You can see all sides and angles in the photos. Antique Cast Iron Horse Head Hitching Post Top Authentic & Old Foundry Markings
Here's an antique Hitching Post topper. Made of heavy cast iron with black paint. This came from a gentleman who says it's been stored away for many years. He did say it was repainted in the 60s/70s but wasn't used after that except for display and is a genuine oldie from his family. He thinks 20s era or older. I've done all the research I can to find out a maker as there's no name listed anywhere on this but there is some distinguishable foundry marks on the sides which I've shown up close. I've poured over many. Many photos online and there's only 1 example I can find that has every detail the same as mine. It's a sold listing and can be seen by searching item#400742739080. They didn't know the makers name either but literally every detail, dimension, mold lines and all is identical. This piece stands ... morejust a wee under 10" tall. Just under 3.5" wide across ears, 8" across from mane to nose tip and the post mounting hole is 1 7/8" and this weighs 9lbs. It's a little top heavy so it doesn't stand on it's own unless you prop it a wee bit like I have it in the pics. No broken parts or repairs. Great old piece that I'm sure you will love!

Authentic Cast Iron Horse Hitching Post, Mid 19th Century Antique, New Orleans
This hitching post topper is guaranteed not to be a reproduction. Very heavy cast iron horse head never had a ring. We've seen this exact post in authentic pictures of the old French Quarter in New Orleans. Ours does not have a hallmark or any identication marks to indicate who made it. As you can see in the photos. There is no rust on the outside, and only a bit of natural oxidation can be seen inside, near the notched part where it was attached to a post. There are a couple of splatters of white paint on one side, see photo. We rescued this piece from the tack room in a Western Iowa barn. It stands 15 1/2" tall. Weighs 27 pounds, and is exactly as we found it, very clean and undamaged(except for the lack of the pole it was attached to) We can see no evidence of repairs or alterations. Cast Iron Street Light Victorian Era
Victorian era cast iron gas lamps. These lamps lined the streets of our Nation's capital. Washington, DC during the 1800s. They were cast in Glasgow, Scotland- known as the City of Sculpture. The artistry of that city's cast iron masters can be seen in the detailed and delicate design of the ladder bar and caps. Some were made between 1858- 1899 by George Smith& Co of the Sun Foundry in Glasgow. Scotland. The Sun Foundry was renowned for their artistic"street furniture" including such examples as the famous Paisley Fountain. The McCulloch&Co posts were crafted between 1831- 1850. Also in Glasgow. The lamp posts are all identical except for foundries and were designed for use in Washington. DC. The countersunk holes at each end could also be used to screw your choice of hitching post rings. You could have custom rings made and mount them using these holes. They are rectangular on bottom and measure 5 11/16 OD x 3 5/8" OD- The Inside Diameter is approximately 5" ID x 2 13/16" ID. There is 1 countersunk hole at ... moreeach end. They could be mounted onto metal. Brick fence or a wood post or leg. These would really add a great look anywhere. They could be mounted to the top of any wood post as a great finish for the top and bottom of stair rails. Each piece weighs a little over 11 lbs. The could also just be mounted to a piece of wood and used as Door Stops for very heavy doors. There is a little piece chip on the one end you can see in picture. This one will be the last one sent you are buying one ea or as many as you like. Easily filled in since you are going to paint them anyway. We keep 1000 ft of bubble wrap in stock so your item will arrive in one piece. Returns accepted for all items not as described. Offered here is a very fine ANTIQUE CAST IRON HORSE HEAD HITCHING POST TOPPER. This very finely cast HORSE HEAD has a ring through its mouth to hold the reins. The head is very detailed and very well made. It measures approximately 9-1/2 inches from base to tip of ears. The weight of the piece is over 8 pounds! The diameter of the post fitting at the bottom is 1-7/8 inches. There are no cracks or chips to the HORSE HEAD HITCHING POST and it would make a great garden piece or entryway feature.
