It is beautifully modelled in metal which has been gilded with gold leaf to give an appearance similar to that of carved wood and gesso. The dial is enamel on copper lettered in blue with separate minute ring. It is complete with original finely fretted gilt brass hands. The back of the clock has an old repairers label. The French m ovement has the Japy Freres clockmakers mark on the movement backplate. It is of excellent quality as is to be expected of this maker. It has the superior pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. Superb Japy Freres Large Antique French Brass Clock Set. ~ French- Circa 1870 ~. ~~ Excellent condition. Fully overhauled ~~. A Stunning. Superb quality, large and heavy clock set by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is very finely modelled in brass in the Louis XVI classical style. Two columns sit either side of a blind fretted panel of ornate acanthus scrolls with scroll brackets to each side. The dial is polished brass with a matted centre with raised foliate decoration. An engraved minute ring surrounds the 12 individual enamel cartouche letters. The original steel hands are beautifully fretted and blued. Above the dial is an arched top mounted with a goddess mask and surmounted by an urn with floral swags. Candelabra are conforming in style with particularly nicely arranged five branches. I've owned this clock for a long time and always hoped to make whatever repairs it needs at some point but I simply don't have the time any longer.wish I did. It is a spectacular clock and frankly. Were it not for the cause listed below, it would remain our home; no doubt about it. This is a Japy Freres clock that was created in Paris France about 80 years ago. The clock case is made of gilded metal and depicts a hunter theme complete with the hunter, his bugle, and rifle, game, and an equally impressive Victorian lady to the right of the clock mechanism; very nice! ... moreI've never seen another like it nor is it likely I ever will again. The attention to detail is simply breathtaking! The enamel metal dial has a white backdrop and features black Roman numerals to mark the hours and metal hands to point out the time. There are two winding arbors on the dial as well as a fast/slow adjustment peg at the very top. The back is open and the mechanical, key wind, pendulum movement is intact inside. The movement works too and does keep time but just for a minute or two.sometimes longer but it eventually stops. The winding springs are fine, wind well, and are not broken that I can tell. It probably needs an adjustment or servicing and like I said, I wish I had the time. The clock chimes a single bell chime at the bottom of each hour and correctly chimes the current number of hours at the top of each hour. The clock comes complete as shown with a metal pendulum and winding key. Once it's repaired, remember, this is a very old clock so service it at least once every three years. Doing so will make a family heirloom of this unique clock. I've looked the clock over fairly well and find a few pieces that are chipped, a few missing pieces(I think)

Candelabra are conforming in style with 3 lights with two arms of acanthus and snuffers that sit in the central nozzle as finials when not in use. The dial is also gilt brass with 12 individual enamel cartouches. It is unusual in having a large cream enamel cartouche to the centre. It is complete with original blued steel ... morehands and convex glass fitted to the egg and dart moulded bezel. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. It's is in an excellent condition regarding its age and it comes in SOLID METAL having beautifully decorated bronze features. You will definately NOT find a second one easily. The most special thing about this clock is that it runs like a CHRONOGRAPH; perfect and"on the second" On top there is a bell which tells you it is time to wake up. The sound of it is clear. This piece has not been cleaned or polished. The inner brass edge around the dial is shining like new. There is(real) glass in front. The bronze base is richly decorated; the same goes for the bronze carriage handle on top of this clock. On the dail you will find the time in Roman numbers for the AM part and in Arabic numbers ... morefor the PM part. The dial also is diveded in 60 partitions; for each minute one partition. It comes with a paper dial which is in a extreme good condition. The hands are made of black metal. There is an extra metal alarm hand. To tell you when the alarm is set. Mext to the bell there is a handle to turn the alarm on and off. Having a windable movement which is running great. For the alarm goes the same! The bronze case is nicely patinated to a medium bronze color. The 8 day time and strike clockworks show the Japy Freres mark. They are clean. Complete and run very well. The clock chime strikes once on the half-hour and tolls the hours on a pleasant sounding bell chime. The clock is in good antique condition. The only damage of note is that the front door does not stay properly latched and is slightly open(see photos) the pendulum is a correctly sized modern replacement and the nut that holds the bell in place is not correct. For auction is this beautiful Antique Japy Freres French Mantle Clock. The base is White Marble Onyx. This clock depicts a classical figure. A gentleman in period dress with a mandolin. The clock itself is set in a gilt case with a white porcelain dial. The base has lovely decorations with swag chains and patterns. It is very heavy. The movement is stamped"Japy Freres& Cie Grd Med. D'Honneur" means it(the movement) was made some time after the company(Japy Freres/Japy Brothers) won the Grand Medal of Honor(which they did at the Paris exhibition in 1855) they also won a medal in 1867. It shows they were awarded a medal at the 1855 Paris Exposition. It means that Japy Freres won an award in 1855 allowing them to display the award on their movements until the time a nother award might be won at a future exposition. Such as ... morethe 1867 Paris Exposition. I cannot see any date on the stamp. The movement also has the number 5488 stamped on it. I got this at an Estate Auction. It did not come with the key but has the bell and pendulum. I started the pendulum and the clock ran for about 30 minutes. It's in good condition as you can see and all the the works appear to be there. I have a Japy Freres. Antique brass clock with two matching candle holders for sell. The Japy Freres emblem is in the back of the clock, along with the numbers 4 and 8. The number 4878 is on the back plate. On the bottom of the clock, the numbers 36705A appear with a stamp emblem that has the numbers 432. There is no cover on the back of the clock. The guts look intact along with the pendelum. The clock is currently not working and will need to be serviced. The face of the clock has no cover. The face is a light gold color with a decorative circle in the center and black numbers within a circle. There is no key for the clock. The clock is 15" high. 7 1/2" wide and 5" Deep. There is brass on all sides of clock as well as front and back. The candle holders match the clock and are 10" high and the base is 4" wide. I have the key for this. Occasionally it starts up and runs fast. It is sporadic though. There are many damaged areas on the clock. This is a GORGEOUS antique 19th century French Japy Freres Cartel wall clock in very good condition. This came from a New Jersey estate where I was told it works and includes its pendulum and key which I show in my last photo. It has been hanging in this home as a decoration. Not wound in years and I don't dare fiddle with it as I am not a clock expert. This has beautiful gold solid bronze ornate leaf with berry decoration and measures 25" high X 12" wide. A very beautiful antique. Circa 1890's, three piece mantel clock set in the Louis XVI style. They are composed of pure white marble with acanthus leaf, laurel and berry, ormolu brass mounts. The clock has an illegibly struck impressed maker's mark(probably Japy. It is not in working order: runs for a day and a half and stops. Sold"as found" Clock measures 14-1/4" tall by 7-1/2" wide by 5" deep. Includes a pendulum and key. The garnitures measure 11-1/4" tall by 6" wide by 3-1/4" deep. The marbles are in excellent condition, tiny crack on base of column on right clock case, no chips, not stained. Standing at 27" in height. It is by the famous clockmaker Japy Freres and has the 1855 mark on the movement backplate. It is classical in design. JAPY French mechanical alarm clocks were designed and manufactured by Frederik Japy(1749-1812) In 1810 he started a factory at Baderel. France. The company quickly grew and became one of the great 19th century industrial firms for clocks, watches, locks, kitchen ware and dinner ware. After his death in 1812, his five sons formed Japy Freres. JAPY production ceased around 1930. This charming French JAPY dark red painted metal case alarm clock is from the early 1900s(1900-1930) The clock is currently in working condition; soft thick and loud alarm ring. Hands glow in the dark! Some scratches on the outer red case due to age and use. Considered to be in good condition. Measures 3.5 inches in diameter. Brass button on top turns off the alarm ring.
