Dating from the 1870s, it has burl panels all over, hand carved crest on the very top, five different style shapely mirrors, rose quartz on the drop center and two top columns, four small drawers, one large drawer on the base and a hidden drawer on the very bottom. The burl panels are all picture frame molded on the drawers and on the inside of the drop center. It has oversize candle shelves. In my over 50 years in the business, I don’t believe I have owned this model even though I have had my share of drop center dressers.

There is geometric parquetry bandings in maple, cherry, and mahogany. The dovetailed drawers have the original porcelain knobs, the interiors with period wallpaper liners. The mirror frame and harp are leaf carved walnut, the mirror original. The feet are carved as leaf scrolls. It measures 37" tall by 17-1/2" wide 13-1/2' deep. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN OAK VANITY DRESSER(1) Fantastic antique. Oversized Victorian period oak vanity dresser. This piece was probably manufactured by Karges and it will date into the 1870s-1880s period. The best part about this piece is that it is has not been refinished or altered since it was manufactured. The photo speaks for itself. This piece is massize measuring approximately 94" tall and 53.5" wide. Good luck finding another of this quality and size. Aside from a few minor flaws to the top and dulling of the finish, I can't fault this piece. Considering the age, I would give this a 8 or 9 out of 10. Antique Dresser, Hand-carved Walnut &Leaf Pulls, Price greatly reduced!
Will ship if you make arrangements. This dresser was handmade in the Midwest during the Civil War period. Likely before 1860. The back of the dresser shows it belonged to Henry Wims(Williams) An ex-slave according to the News-Palladium from Benton Harbor Michigan(Saturday, April 1, 1950(pg.9) Henry came up to Benton Harbor from Kentucky through Indiana in 1882. When he was a young man, about 20 years of age. He had been to Louisville where the cars stopped and where there was a great concentration of Union soldiers during the Civil war and decided to follow the railroad north and see where the tracks joined the"Underground railway" that he had heard so much about. Also, his wife's father lived at St. Joseph, where there were many ex-slaves and their descendants. His travels brought him to Benton Harbor. The solid walnut dresser ... morehas hand-carved walnut and leaf pulls. Hand-dovetailed drawers and square nails show expert craftsmanship. Finish is excellent with warm antique patina. There are minor stains and likely some wax drippings of candles on the top; missing and broken trim on the bottom left; broken side edge at the back right of the dresser. see photos) Size of this classic American furniture is 40"wide. 17 3/4" deep, and 39" tall.
