An original antique Russian Orthodox icon late 19th century with the image of Kazan Mother of God. High quality chromolithogram on tin plate attached to wood. High quality printing on gold background. The icon is in fair antique condition with surface scratches. Areas of paint loss, and some surface rust changes, see pictures for details. Still very beautiful original item with no evidence of restoration. The icon came from an estate of a Russian Orthodox family in St. Peterburg, Russia, where it was said it survived WWII in German siege of the city. Extremely collectable and historic as such. Size 7" x 5 3/4" or 17.5 cm x 14.5 cm. Other icons and other Russian antiques from the same estate are being listed concurrently so keep an eye on our listings. Religious icon or sacraments box incredible hammered metal large cabinet 35"tall
Unbelievable piece. I got it in an estate sale a few weeks ago from some very well traveled people. Total height 35 inches to top of cross. 15 inches across the front 12 inches deep. Door has glass in it. Drawer is some type of felt lined as is the interior of the cabinet is made of I guess wood covered in hammered tin and copper. Probably must have been hand made. I have no idea the age or where it came from. Cross unscrews from the steeple for shipping. All I can say is wow. I was the second person in the sale and grabbed it quickly. It has 4 small plastic feet on the bottom I guess so it doesn't scratch furniture. It is fairly heavy. Again I have no idea on age or whereabouts it came from as the owner passed on. I'm sure it's twentieth century though. And used as decorative purposes. It's a wow in a room for sure. I will ... morenot take this item back. It's to heavy and unique to ship twice. The Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan made its apparition on 1579 at Kazan the capital of Tartar Khaganat recently captured by the Russians. The iconography subject is closely associated with a Greek icon of the Hodigitria Mother of God. By this Icon young people are blessed at the altar. The feasts were established on 22 October(5 November) and 8(21) July. This Russian Orthodox Icon was painted by a modern professional church artist at the Russian town Rybinsk(not far from Moscow) that is one of the main and old centers of the Russian icon painting. The icon was painted on a very old(probably 18 century) wooden board with the shrine i.e. the rectangular hollow at the middle part designed for the image. The margins are above the hollow. The shrines mostly belong to the antique icons from the 18 century and earlier. The board was covered ... morewith levkas(gesso. Special priming) The central part was gilded.
