The drawer fronts have book-matched crotch mahogany veneers and cockbeading. The fitted interior(sorry for the dust) has burl walnut veneers, ebonized pulls and boxwood stringing. The interior cupboard door opens to reveal a drawer with a secret drawer behind. See photo) The desk measures 44" high by 39 1/2" wide by 20" deep. In overall very good condition. There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. I don't think we want to try to address this particular issue but please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. There is also some cracking of the veneer on the lid but it is all stable, nothing loose. The desk has great color and patination and is guaranteed to be as described. There is a slight curve to the front to the drawer sides which adds a very nice flair. The top is solid wood, not veneer. It is in it’s original condition so there are scratches on the desktop due to normal everyday wear. There is a Decorative edge that has been added to the edge of the top that may not have been original. Antique Brass Inlaid Mahogany Lap Desk w/ Secret Compartment. Keys included. Ink well lids appear to be silver or silver plate but are unmarked. This lap desk was reportedly property from the estate of Ambassador George C. McGhee(1912-2005) McGhee was Ambassador to Turkey during 1951-1953. Prior to this he served as Chairman of the Interim Greek-Turkish Assistance Committee in1947. And was appointed Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East, South Asia and Africa(included Turkey) in 1949. Later he served as the U. S. Ambassador to Germany, 1963-1968. Measurements Top: 20 inches long by 10 5/8 inches deep by 8 inches tall Weight approx. 20 lbs. Condition The scrolling brass inset decoration lifting in places and the wood ground splitting and with losses; lacking elements; the larger portion of the writing slant. This is a fantastic Antique Angus roll top desk with original lock& key. 8 drawers and great little cabinet cubbies for all your letters. Pens& stuff. THIS IS PICK-UP ONLY: WILL NOT DELIVER/ SHIP. It does have a couple of little issues. 1) it needs a good cleaning(my back is blown out and i just can't do all the bending needed) or refinishing. 2) it is missing 3 small thin pieces of wood to replace 2 end"little cabinet doors" and 1 piece for holding up the left pen drawer. All are shown in the pictures. This is really nicely made. All dove tail, super solid, has original lock and all drawers lock as should when closed. I have not cleaned this in years. Height- 80 1/2" Depth- 18 1/2" Width- 36 1/2" Chippendale/Govenor Withrup mahogany secretary desk with ball and claw feet. Solid brass hardware, key locks on cabinet and secretary desk foldout. In the cubby holes. There are two hidden drawers that can be pulled out. It has ball and claw feet and the original pulls. Front inlaid cover and serpentine drawers. Lattice work doors, fully intact, circa 1940's. Great shape.

THE CABINET HAS A MAHOGANY BASE. THE FRONT SIDES. SHELVES AND CABINET FRONT ARE MADE OF BURL WOOD. IT HAS THREE SHELVES THAT ARE GRADUATED AND A LOCKING CABINET WITH A FLIP DOWN DOOR WITH A SMALL DRAWER AT THE TOP OF THE CABINET AND TWO SMALL SLOTS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE DRAWER. THE DRAWER HAS TWO ANTIQUE BRASS DRAWER PULLS. THE FACE OF THE CABINET HAS A HAND PAINTED BASKET OF FLOWERS AND YOU CAN FEEL THE BRUSH STROKES! IT HAS A FINIAL AT THE TOP, CARVED ORNAMENTATIONS IN THE FRONT JUST BELOW THE CABINET AND TWO FRONT FEDERAL STYLE FLUTED LEGS THAT CURVE OUT AT THE BOTTOMS AND ONE TAPERED LEG IN THE BACK. AL THROUGH THE LEGS ARE SKINNY AND IT HAS ... moreTHE APPEARANCE OF BEING TOP HEAVY, THE CABINET IS SUPRISINGLY STURDY AND STRONG. The glass is in great shape which is good EXCEPT ONE PIECE OF GLASS and I wish I have an idea where one would go to get replacement glass. The false are robust solid Mahogany and are in solid condition. The uppermost drawer has a fold down front with a gold-edged green leather pad so that you can use it as a writing desk. There are several pigeon holes and one little cabinet along the back of this drawer for small stuff. Below are three storage drawers and there are cabinets on each side.
