Hammered into a dome shape and rising into a peaked top, pierced along the bottom edge to fit a leather or fur lining, now long since perished. The sides would have accommodated leather pleats to protect the neck and ears of the wearer. It is likely the peaked top would have fitted a horse hair plume.
