Vtg brown pottery whiskey or maple syrup jug
It is 8 1/2"H. There are a couple chips and the bottom has a crack. It's not bad though. The crack isn't all the way through and the jug feels tight and strong and solid. No marks. Unsure of age. Cracks or fleabites. It does have a glaze pop on the side below the handle. The"pop" is about 3/16th" long and 1/8" wide. The jug is marked on the bottom"USA" so I am not sure of the maker. Maple Syrup - Moonshine Stoneware Jug with Cork
This jug was found in an old barn in Pennsylvania and is believed to have been used for Maple Syrup or possibly moonshine. With the spout I would say more likely syrup. The cork was in the jug when found. So I left it. There is some damage to the top as shown in the photos and a crack in the bottom of the handle at the bend. You are bidding on a old Albany Salt Glazed(dark brown) Approx. 1 gallon, sypup jug. It is somewhat unique in that the base is the same as diameter as the belly( 6-3/8" The photo incorrectly appears that it is a beehive shape. It measures approx. 8" tall with intact handle and spout. Has original crusty wax seal remnants on top and handle which make me think it was sold containing whiskey or maple syrup. This syrup jug is composed of 16 well defined concave ribs with an applied handle, all without damage of any nature-fine overall crazing- and no discoloration. The 2 part polished pewter top has a simple double circular finial, and is internally marked“Lang& Lauster Pat. 00?1,1871” Top is also in mint condition and perfectly aligned, hinge in excellent working condition. Up for bid is an Antique Brown Stoneware Two(2)Gallon Stamped Syrup Jug. Jug stands approximately 12" tall and base is 9" in diameter and body balloons out a bit. Jug has an unusually large rimmed lip which measures 3 1/2" across. With 7/8" spout/lip. Jug is in very nice vintage condition. One chip about 5/8" x 3/8" Several small chips along the rim of lip. Coloring is unique and adds a certain amount of flare to jug. It may have been an"End of Day" jug as it appears that the make grabbed hold of the base and bottom of jug- it appears to have left hand or finger marks in the brown coloring. Antique Wedgwood Syrup Jug / Pitcher - Cobalt Blue Jasperware - fancy lid
Up for sale is this beautiful Wedgwood Syrup Jug/ Pitcher with Pewter? Silver Plated fancy lid. It is approx 7" 3 7/8" across the base(not counting the handle) and 4 1/2" at it's widest(with the handle) In very good condition with no noticeable chips or cracks. There is the of crack in the white part of the applied white parts(mostly along the top) I never even noticed that until I examined it with a magnifying glass. Light scratches to the lid. Not sure what the lid is made of- usually they are pewter but this might be silver plated. There are some hallmarks stamped on the inside. The one to the right looks like an oil lamp(with a shade) within a shield/ crest. Ther are 3 marks to the left- the first is only about 1/4 visible- no idea what it is. The second kind of looks like" within pointy top block and the third ... moreone is an"S" within an oval. The lid has a raised shell like shape and a milk glass? button attached to the thumb tab lifter. That makes it a little nicer than any other one I have had in the past. Vintage Charlotte Charles Maple Syrup Stoneware Jug 1950s
Charlotte Charles products were started in the 1940's by Melanie Bouchelle McCarthy. Of Evanston, Illinois, who had a passion for collecting old cookbooks. Among Mrs. McCarthy's treasures was a 300 year old handwritten cookbook that belonged to Charlotte Charles, a french cook who had been famous in the time of Napoleon. The neighborhood card club was in session and the women were discussing ways they could help their husbands financially during the depression. Mrs. McCarthy took a bet that she could sell her finest quality fruitcake to the neighborhood department store even during the depression because it was the best of its kind. The recipe for this fruitcake came from the antique cookbook once owned by Charlotte Charles. Mrs. McCarthy won that bet. In time other products were added to the Charlotte Charles line and the company ... moregrew. Products were stocked in the better department and food stores in every state. Stoneware jugs were produced for their maple syrup line. Today I'm offering an adorable little stoneware jug marked USA on the bottom. Produced in the 1950s. Around an image of a tree. The jug says: Maple from the Forest, Superior Pancake Syrup, from the White Mountains of New England, Produced by Charlotte Charles, Evanston, Illinois) This little jug held 10 ounces of the finest maple syrup. Antique or vintage Stoneware Jug with handle in very good condition with minor exterior wear and what appears as a crack on the lip is structurally sound and more in the glaze. The glaze has the crackle effect in the finish. The cork was added and is not original to the jug. The jug stand 7" inches tall and 4" diameter at its widest. May have been for Whiskey or makes a great Maple Syrup container. Nice primitive decorative!

Wonderful rare old stoneware syrup crock labeled"LONGWOOD PLANTATION'S PURE CANE SYRUP S. J. GIANELLONI. JR. LONGWOOD PLANTATION EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH BATON ROUGE, LA. ESTABLISHED 1827 1 QUART, 1 PINT, 2 FLUID OZS. The crock measures approximately 9” tall and 5 ¾” diameter. I think this crock would date to the turn of the century. The label states the syrup was"Clarified with Sulphur Dioxide" Other than the paper label, there are no other markings. The crock has several surface chips as can be seen in the photos. It is not cracked and the surface chips do not distract from its display factor. The label is worn as well.
