DESCRIPTION: Please view all the photos as they are an integral part of the description. This Fist jar stands 5-1/21 inches tall and is unquestionably a first mold piece. All molded details are exceedingly sharp. Clear, well defined, and highly pronounced. The blue encircling the top and bottom rims is dark and evenly applied. There are a few slight potter’s smudges done in the making. All in all, this is one of the finest Fist jars to ever hit the market! Absolutely beautiful! The mold on the lid is not as strong and the blue is a shade or two lighter but, still, it IS a lid and a nice one as well. Basketweave canisters are illustrated and described in detail on pages 193 through 197 of the 1997 Salt Glaze Stoneware book; a“Put Your Fist In” cookie jar is featured on page 195. Overall, Basketweave canisters are characterized as“Scarce” with the Fist cookie jar valued at $750. CONDITION: It could use a bath but I’ll leave that joy for the new owner. Antique Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Jug; Old Salt Glaze 19th Century Pottery
Up for bids we offer a beautiful. 19th Century, 2 gallon, stoneware jug in exceptional condition. Right out of an estate, this salt glazed piece has a folksy, cobalt blue floral decoration on the front as well as an underscored number"2" above it. It was found in the western New York region and isn't signed by the pottery that produced it but there's a good chance it is a Lyons- Fisher or Burger jug. It has a gorgeous, dark, and earthy coloring along with that speckled, salt glazed surface. This piece is very well preserved and has only one small pitted type flaw near the handle. There are no other chips, not even around the spout or the bottom edge. The handle hasn't been broken and there aren't any cracks or hairlines anywhere on the piece. The jug measures about 13 1/2 inches high with a bottom diameter of 8 1/4 inches while the very top measures 2 1/4 inches across. As far as condition goes, this is the nicest piece of decorated stoneware we have ever found. It would make a super addition to any collection and also a top notch example to start one off! CONDITION: The blue writing has some wearing and scraping off the stoneware. A Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Jug or Bottle. Now let me say, I am not a collector of Stoneware. I did however try to research this jug. I must have looked at Thousands of pieces of Stoneware, putting in every keyword I could think of for this type of slip or glaze, and could find nothing like it. I will welcome any idea's from a collector! I do not know it's exact age. It may be vintage, Antique, but it is not marked, like most modern pieces. It is quite beautiful. With it's speckled or mottled Brown with a slight Red Rust shading glaze or slip. I don't think it's Spongeware. And with the lighter clay base is seen dotted in background, those surface dots ... moreare indented. Giving it a slightly rough surface. The brown glaze is glossy. But the Cobalt Blue floral decoration, shading slightly to a lighter Sky Blue on edges, is very high gloss. Heavy. Weighs ~2.5 pounds! The glaze is a very shiney black which turns blue where thicker. It is full of metallic bursts in the glaze. The is pure white with a slight uniform crackle which suggests some real age. Antique Stoneware Whiskey Jug Crock 1 Gallon Blue Black Glaze
This whiskey jug was in my grandparents garage for years. It is a gallon ju g made of heavy stoneware ceramic with a glass like salt glaze on the top and inside. There are no markings. The jug has a carved wooden stopper. The glaze is unusual in that the color is not as brown as other jugs like it. But a blue black color except for right around the bottom edge of the glaze which is brownish. The ju g stands 12 inches tall and the diameter is 6-1/2 inches. Thanks for looking!

Up for auction is a 1850's Edmands& Co. 2 gallon cobalt blue decorated speckled bird on branch stoneware jug. This image is of a lovely speckled bird perched on a branch. The specks on the bird and the leaves are heavily raised dots of cobalt blue. There are some large cracks to the body(as shown in photos) Also a chip on the handle and a couple of small chips to the bottom of this jug. However, this does not take away from this rare image, still in such great condition. Edmands& Co. was in Charlestown, Mass. Edward and Thomas Edmands ran the pottery company from 1852- 1868. The platform neck is well formed and strong, and loop strap rear single handle is tight, easy grip, highly looped, and attached firmly no issues. This is a clean nice stoneware example for anyone's proud display collection. Unmarked to capacity, I would say it is best equivalent to just about 1 1/2 gallon size. Condition Report: One very tiny stone ping above coil spray. Triangular shaped stone ping on right side upper shoulder from which emanates a line of vertical glaze drip. Overall pleasing light grey coloration with a small Texas-state shaped beige blotch to left side midway. This is smooth. Just a kiln color aberration in the manufacture. No kiss marks. Clean sound bottom with tiny felt pad dots to prevent scratching. No fry to cobalt, No hairlines. No repairs. Just HONEST old piece that has sat last 30+ years in a collection in the area in which is was made. Antique stoneware jug made by the Robinson Clay Products Co. founded in Akron. Ohio in 1856. The one gallon jug is decorated with a very artistic design with 2 sets of blue bands seperated with a white band in the middle. This jug was custom made into a lamp by a lighting firm in Avon, Ohio in 1992 for my home. The base of the jug was drilled and has a turned hardwood base and top with internal wiring. This jug lamp is in great condition with no chips. Cracks, stains or repairs. Works perfectly. There is a tight line extending about 2 1/2 in. from the spout on one side which does not effect the stability of the jug. The lamp is approx 12 1/2 in. tall and 7 1/4 in. diameter base. Primitive Antique Stoneware Jug Old estate find. This is a nice Primitive Antique Stoneware Jug with large script blue cobalt decoration. applied handle and early glaze. The cobalt writing says"J. N. Kuh& Co, Newark N. J. From what I can find out, these jugs were made by the Fulper Pottery of Flemington, NJ, for the companies whose names are written on the jugs. The script writing is quite dramatic and has a great look. The jug is in very good condition with some chips on the outside of the top rim and one shallow chip on the side of the handle- no cracks. Solid and sturdy. Otherwise, just some minor glazing flaws. Great stylish script writing on the front in a dark cobalt blue. Design is very well done. HERE'S a fine authentic genuine 19th c salt glazed Stoneware Jug recently acquired at a high end sale in Westchester New York. It was sold to us at circa 19th century. This is a nice example of primitive stoneware. The Jug is stamped in blue with a block style"M" and"1 1/2" in a crest. The 1 1/2 refers to the size of 1 1/2 quarts. As the pictures show it is in nice condition with some glaze loss at the very top of the jug. There are no hairlines or repairs. Just an honest old piece that has lasted time. It weighs 8 pounds. Here is a large 4-gallon antique stoneware jug crock made in Keene. New Hampshire. I can't quite make out the top line, looks a lot like J. S. Taft, xxxx-xx- N.Y. but not sure. It has an elaborate cobalt blue decoration with vines, flower and leaves, tendrils etc. This jug is about 19" tall and approx. 10-3/4" across the diameter at the base and about 34-35 inches in circumference at the widest part of the jug. The top and side(of the spout) have very old chips. There is an"in-the-making" defect in the front that you can view with the e-bay magnifier. I really don't deal with jugs a whole lot. But this one really caught my eye. It really has that beehive shape to it. Especially since the bottom narrows down just like the top does. Most times it is just the top. There are two things that I will mention about it and you can decide for yourself with the pictures. Towards the bottom below the handle is a small dime sized piece that is chipped off a little. It does not go through and is just on the surface. But is there just the same and needs to be mentioned. The other one is on the handle where the thumb is placed. It is a different color than the rest. I am not sure if this was made like this to give the thumb a not so smooth surface for gripping possibly. It looks to have been made like this from the factory because the color closest to the spout bleeds over onto the lighter colored part. Regardless. Unique old jug. I was told that this if from mid to late 19th c. however I dont know. Nice dark color. Measures about 14.5"15" tall and about 9" across the bottom. There are some chips in the mouth. A minor crack, presumably from manufacturing on the base, and a minor ding with little cracks on a spot on the side, all detailed in the pictures.
