Up for your bidding consideration is the wonderful signed. Gustav Stickley H Back Chair. I purchased this stunning piece from an estate sale in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was a one owner chair, in the family for over 100 years! It is in good shape considering its over 100 years old. The red Gustav Stickley stamp can still be seen on the chair. The style of stamp tells me its 1904-1907. The chair is still tight for its age, but does have flaws. The center back piece has some cracks, may have been repaired. I don't know if it has been recovered, but I would assume it has. It has a stamp underneath on the pad and I can only read"bose co. The chair has some scratches ... moreand the lower legs have some discoloring. The chair legs also have a pet odor to them. I haven't tried to clean the chair, to see if the smell would go away. Its over 100 years old and if it were my chair I would just leave it the way it is. Its a piece of American History, made by a true American Craftsman, Gustav Stickley. I am selling in As-Is condition. Harvey Ellis inlaid pieces were only made for a short period of time between 1903-1904. Back 3 slats were stripped(no sandpaper or abrasives used) to show Copper. Pewter, and Wood inlay. Left slat has all inlay intact. Middle slat is missing 2 small horizontal pieces of pewter at bottom. right slat is missing long pewter stem and round copper circle at top. This is a signed Gustav Stickley 1/4 sawn oak wood Harvey Ellis Rocker- for sale. Model#339. Circa 1901 to 1902. Harvey Ellis was involved style influence with three vertical slats at back and arched seat rails. The rocker is in the normal condition of a rocker from this era. It comes with the original seat and leather. Leather on seat is worn with normal wear of a 100yr old antiquity. However is not physically attached to the chair. The left back arm is loose, but does not hinder the functionality of the chair. The chair is 34in in Height and 24in in Width. The seat is 18in in Width and the back of the seat is 22in in Height. As this chair was made in the early 1900's. I would consider this piece to be used more as a show piece of the Gustav Stickley- Harvey Ellis furniture maker, rather than a day to day use. The arms are bowed and have pinned through tenons at the front and back and supported by pinned corbels at the front and back. The leg posts are very wide and thick. The back is pinned at every joint. The adjustable back support and pegs appear to be original and have several setting. Excellent Gustav Stickley Rocker #337
This is an excellent example of a Gustav Stickley small rocker or nursing rocker. Made of solid quartered oak with an original medium brown finish and original tight rush seat. It has tight pegged joints throughout the chair and Harvey Ellis side aprons on all four sides of the rocker. Signed with Gustav Stickley's joiner compass mark. Dated between 1903-1912. The seat measures 17" wide x 16.5" deep and stands 34.5" high from floor to top of back. Please email any questions prior to bidding. Please ask for a shipping quote.
