Since the family traveled from Caesaria, it could have originated from anywhere from there to Syria. It works very well. Age is estimated to be at the very least late 19th century but could be must earlier since the family is traced back to the 17th Century. Has Arabic writing. Measures 3 1/4" high 4" wide. Vintage Brown Glass Melted - Stretched - Bottle Vase - Unique!
My Grandfather gave this to me as a teenager- that was 45 years ago! I thought it was"cool" then and I still love it! It stands 12" tall. The base is 4 1/2" to 5" around. The mouth opening is just over 1/2" round. I thought it was in perfect condition until I looked at the pictures close up. There is a tiny chip on the mouth- I think. It may have always been like that- just part of the stretching process. It does not take away from the display and really is not visible with the naked eye. It weighs almost two pounds. The bottom says one quart. It has HG stamped on it- the brand of glass I imagine. It is very unique and amazing I still have it in this great condition! I of course will wrap and ship it with care.

Antique Genuine Natural One and One-Third Carat Russian Faceted Blood Red Garnet Pear. ORIGIN: The Ural Mountains. Russia. 19th Century. CLASSIFICATION: Blood Red Garnet Faceted Pear. It is also believed that garnet, described as“nopek” was one of the twelve gemstones described in the Bible in Exodus 28:17-20 as adorning Aaron’s breastplate, representing the twelve tribes of ancient Israel. Ancient Mediterranean populations believed that a garnet could give its wearer guidance in the night, allowing them to see when others could ... morenot. Due to its red color, ancient cultures including the Celts, Greeks, and Romans also associated it with blood, and thus garnet was thought to stop bleeding or bloodshed between enemies. Garnet was also worn for protection when traveling. Here's a gorgeous, blood red faceted garnet gemstone from the Ural Mountains of Russia, where the production of garnet has gone on for many centuries. This gorgeous gemstone was hand crafted into this sparkling faceted pear during the last half of the 19th century. This particular variety of garnet is known as"pyrope" and is especially favored for its dark, blood red tones. The gemstone is very clean, crystal clear, and exquisitely colored. It possesses great lustre, lots of flash, and at least to the eye, is essentially flawless. It is truly a gorgeously colored, brilliant, sparkling semi-precious gemstone. The trained eye will easily discern from the photo that the gemstone has been hand-faceted. The coarseness of the 19th century faceting is considered appealing to most gemstone collectors, and is not considered a detriment.
