What it revealed itself to be was certainly ... moreenlightening. For concealed between a thin layer of cedar veneer. An even thinner layer of decorative fascia veneer, and a 3/4" thick top strip of cedar running horizontally along the edge was in fact a huge sheet of PARTICLE BOARD! Prior to this rather cleverly deceitful method of increasing a company's profit with the use of inferior material under the guise of quality woods. There used to be a disclaimer attached to such pieces as this LANE'VIRGINIA MAID' CEDAR CHEST This disclaimer identifies the products used in the construction of furniture. And on the inside of the lid it says: 70% MADE OF 3/4" RED CEDAR PANELS(JUNIPERUS VIRGINIANA) So this isn't one of those particle board pieces. It is almost all solid wood except the veneers on the front and top, and the decorative base. ART DECO STYLE The blotchy areas are just where varnish remains-almost all of the varnish has totally disappeared. Leaving a raw piece with just those blotchy areas mentioned-the piece is almost immaculate condition otherwise. $35.00 Shipping Condition: Used Location: Oxford, United States We believe this dome top trunk to be an antique. And based on it's smaller size possibly a child's trunk or toy trunk. There is no longer a label ... moreon the trunk but the inside lid has a print of a bird(see photo) feeding her chicks. The trunk is done with an interesting combination of dark brown and ivory. It looks like the ivory was painted on but probably a good while ago since there is quite a bit of rust and discoloration coming through the paint. The dark brown areas look like tin or some thin metal that has been embossed with the scrolled pattern. The interior still has quite a bit of paper inside but the paper lining is not in good condition. There is a loose bracket on one side that should probably be fixed if the trunk is going to be opened regularly. There are two latches on the front that are still intact. The lock in the center is missing the bottom section(the piece mounted on the bottom of the trunk) The trunk could be used"as is" for a primitive decorative piece. It would need some restoration of the hardware and the interior cleaned up to function as a trunk. It measures 26" wide by 15" high and 14" deep. Please message if you would like additional pictures or information.

The gleaming finish is in excellent condition. The top"drawer" is actually a pull out desk. Used while standing or with a tall stool. As on Downton Abbey, the butler is the manager of all the servants, keeping accounts and paying bills at such a desk. The front of the desk has a slight warp as shown. Scottish Flamed Mahogany Chest. This is an impressive 1840's Victorian Scottish Flamed Mahogany Chest of Drawers with a large flared cornice top with convex molded contour front. One rare and unique characteristic of this superb Victorian Mahogany Scotch Chest of Drawers is the hidden alcove. The cornice top folds over to reveal a deep and large unique secret compartment for storage. There are five long graduating drawers with original turned mahogany knob handles with Mother of Pearl insets in the center. The chest features incredible precise hand cut dovetail joints on all four corners of each drawer. The drawers also feature hand shaved(chamfered) drawer bottoms. A very unusual large and fancy Bonnet style chest. Circa 1820-1840. Cherry solids& veneers with poplar secondary woods. Has older label on back. That says it was brought to Anna Ill. Union Co, 1859, by C.E Kirkpatrick, ex. mayor of Anna. This label apparently was written in 1939. It is hard to make out the pencil writing, partially reads"recondition April 1939 by Headrick Bros. woodcraft shop, 421 N Sprigg st Cape Girardeau, MO. Girardeau MO. is only about 26 miles from Anna Ill. Cornwall Kirkpatrick was in the pottery business in Anna with his brother. Today Anna pottery is highly collectable. The Kirkpatrick brothers were originally from Ohio. No other provenance. A neat label with some history. 4 smaller drawers over 3 bow front drawers. All the drawers are hand cut dovetails. Solid poplar drawer sides and bottoms. Wooden pulls ... moreI believe to have been replaced. Inside was 1 remnant sandwich glass style knob. Picture# 4 shows underneath of case, lower left hand side leg is out of slot. All the legs are loose like this, not broken, just dry glue. Also this picture shows bottom back strip of wood as ply-wood. Obviously a replacement. Top of dresser has spindle gallery, Spindles and top board are cherry. Top has a couple plugged areas, possibly to cover knots in wood. Picture# 9 shows close-up of column side, this column has a small repair. Picture# 11 shows 1 bowed drawer with bottom slide repair. This is the worst drawer, others are fair. Last picture shows inside case, some questionable boards to upper inside. They appear to have been replaced. This will need some TLC, shows its age and old refinish. It is an antique chest. The chest has mahogany veneer. The drawer sides and bottom are made of oak. The drawers have square nails and the underside of the drawers are hand chamfered. The interior of the pulls have carved mother of pearl. It is 48 1/2" tall x 21" deep x 49" wide. The chest is in fair used condition. The drawers open and close fairly smooth. The veneer has some warping. Chips and old repairs. The top is loose and has some dings, staining and remnants of tape. Overall, it presents well. A true antique. Fantastic antique New Hampshire Chippendale chest of drawers. Constructed from pine. This piece has been stained a beautiful deep reddish brown tone. The chest has five graduated doors, each with sturdy dovetail construction and brass willow mount pulls and escutcheons. The chest has a classic overhanging molded top, which is balance my simple bracketed feet at the piece's base. This chest probably dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. Overall. The chest is in fair to good antique condition, but does have some wear and dings commensurate with age and use. One of the escutcheons also has a break near the top, as you can see from the pictures below. Otherwise no significant damage or visible repairs. This is a beautiful and quite rare antique miniature chest of drawers. It appears to be a furniture salesman's sample. The style appears to be an 18th century style. This piece is quite old and appears to be at least early 19th century and possibly earlier. Many of the drawers appear to be made from pieces of wooden antique cigar boxes. The chest of drawers measures 14" tall x 9 3/4" wide at widest point x 6" deep not including the handles. It has wear from use but overall has a great antique style and looks amazing. It came into our west coast warehouse off the last container. It has the beautiful finish. Which has always been for the Beidermeier that we hand pick. This wonderful seven drawer chest has a very unusual, besides the stunning match veneer fronts as you can see in the photos, it has the detail claw foot with toe nails also carved in, instead of the scroll or block feet. It is in wonderful condition with the typical age cracks on the plank sides and it has a stress crack across the top of the crown molding(on the very top) that is not visible unless you are standing on a chair. The finish is really nice and the escutcheons are all there. There is a key, but we do not guarantee the locks to work as they always need to be cleaned, oiled and adjusted, but they appear to be working currently. The seven drawers represent the seven days of the week for the men when they went to sea. On Sunday, it was their best day, so it is in the deepest drawer. These drawers never had handles as the key was used to unlock that days attire and open the drawer. Offered for sale is this rare 1800's Dresser/ Chest top mirror stand. It just does not get any better than this. This piece has 3 drawers. A mirror that swivels on the 2 upright arms and the entire piece is made of dovetailed oak which has a rich patina. I am not sure you can see it in the pictures but the middle drawer and mirror have a thin light maple inlay around the perimeter. This piece is real craftmanship at it's finest. It has an awesome design with the middle drawer offset from the 2 side ones and the mirror support arms divided and elegantly curved. The whole thing sets on small bun feet. English 1840 Antique Mahogany Small Chest or Console. This small chest or console was expertly reduced in size about 100 years ago from a larger chest or dresser. Originally hand made about 1840 in England. Mahogany wood is beautifully figured. The top is cut from a single shimmering plank. Drawers have hand dovetailed solid oak sides and later brass pulls are from about 1890. The old finish is very fine with warm antique patina and has been waxed and polished. So only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the glowing luster. Size is 41" long. 12 1/2" deep and 26 1/2" tall. It was sitting over an A/C vent I do not know for sure but I believe that may have dried it out and caused the veneer to start chipping. A very finely made antique. Circa 1810, Federal, or Sheraton, flame mahogany veneered and solid mahogany secretary desk over chest of drawers. Two piece construction. The top section has two narrow drawers over two doors that open to two cubbyholes each with slots and two narrow drawers. Below is the chest, the top with a pull forward mahogany writing frame and original green felt. Below are four graduated drawers. It retains all the original brass knobs, locks, and brass escutcheons. The case is on four turned mahogany legs, solid mahogany case boards. It measures 56" tall by 41-1/2" wide by 20-1/2" deep, the writing frame 38" by 13" the felt surface 34" by 11-1/2" Very good plus condition: original finish, attractive butterflying of the flame veneers. Superb Antique Pennsylvania Cherry Early Sheraton Chest Of Drawers Circa 1810's Western to Central Southern PA circa 1810-1820 Once you look at this chest of drawers. You will notice the excellent craftsmanship! this chest is built like a brick loo-house! it is finely finished, and well executed. the ring turned quarter columns and feet. Are typical of south central/western PA(Franklin County area and west to Bedford) and Northern Maryland. This is undoubtedly the nicest Sheraton Chest we have ever handled! The entire case is dovetailed constructed. Of solid cherry, the 2 board sides are solid, same with the top, which is applied, over a white cedar/pine 4 board slat frame which is dovetailed into the case. the bottom board is dovetailed into the base, which is two boards of white cedar/pine. The drawers are cherry with white cedar/pine ... moresecondary woods. And unusually nice tongue and groove board bottom, which are hand chamfered into the base of the drawer case. the drawer bottoms and back are nailed on with square cut nails. the drawers are all cockbeaded around the edges in cherry. And have diamond inlaid escutcheons. the ring turned feet are mortised up into the bottom of the case. And then nailed into the sides. the prolific use of white cedar/and pine as a secondary wood in this chest is quite unusual. Some have suggested that this chest is of New England Origin. However, upon examining the construction details, it is deduced this chest is indeed of Pennsylvania or Nothern Maryland origin. We had a walnut chippendale desk a few years ago. That came out of the Gettysburg, PA area with the nearly identical usage of white cedar/pine and same ring turned quarter columns. we believe the glass knobs are replacements of much earlier brass knobs. they are however. Very nice, and undamaged by the years. the finish is 100% original and untouched. And has mellowed over time to a nice warm red colour. there are absolutely no repairs and or restorations to speak of. the back has a few new round head nails to help hold

This mahogany Scottish chest of drawers is an impressive and beautiful piece of furniture. With six spacious drawers, all constructed with hand cut dovetails, this dresser boasts an impressive amount of storage space. The drawer configuration is a two over three graduated drawer configuration with a secret drawer just above the two small drawers at the top of the chest. The ... moredrawers are adorned with Victorian style glass knobs that contrast very nicely with the mahogany of the drawer fronts. There are two beautiful bobbin twist columns going up the sides of the chest giving that true Scottish look to the piece. There are locks with beautiful brass escutcheons, but no key. Perhaps one of the more distinguishing features of this antique Scottish dresser is the fact that it is bow fronted. Finding a bow front Scottish chest with such beautiful barley twist columns is very unusual! This Scottish chest has an abundance of storage space and is an impressive size. It is also in very good condition. There are very few issues which is great from an antique chest of drawers of this age. As shown in one of the pictures. The right bobbin twist column has a small missing section on the back of it at the top. On the left and right sides of the plinth base are some minor age separations.
