VERY NICE ANTIQUE SOLID WALNUT CARVED EMBELLISHED PEDIMENT
Up for bid is a very nice Victorian era. Antique solid walnut furniture pediment. Standing 12" high x 25-3/4" wide x 1-1/2" or better thick, you'll find find carved grapes and leaves. There are a few cracks in the wood backing, but they have been fixed and so the pediment itself is very structurally sound. The pediment, I believe was part of a headboard to a bed, however, what you see is all I found. This would be a nice accoutrement to hang on the wall above a window opening, a doorway or a mirror, to add just a hint more of embellishment to any room in the house. Shipping and insurance will be $18.00, except to Hawaii, Alaska and all international destinations, where I will ship to, however, costs tend to be a bit higher. One of the nicest panels I have ever sold! May have been made by the famous furniture maker R.J. Horner. But not certain. Circa, 100+ years old. Wood appears to be walnut. It has a wonderfully framed, bevelled, center recessed panel. Inside has dramatically 3 dimensional carvings. Middle head appears to be a roaring lion with mythical griffins to the left and right. If that wasn't enough, the outside border is also elaborately detailed. Great rich patina. Some outside border wear, but wonderful overall condition. This is an absolutely SHOWSTOPPER of a piece. Offered is a nice antique wood pediment backsplash with great carved wood designs. I believe the wood to be mahogany or oak. But not sure. It came from the estate of a family member who was born in the early 1890's so would probably date around the turn of the century. Measures 47" long, 8" wide(in center) Bottom is 3/4" thick, and top center approx 2" thick, tapering out to 1" thickness. Original finish, some"blistering" of the varnish or stain. FABULOUS OLD HEADER This is so yummy and fabulous for your french shabby chic home. Its got great gesso style work and a beautiful cupid in the center. The wood looks very old to me and its definitely not perfect. The left side is missing almost all its gesso and there are some knicks to the front and the right side corner is coming apart ever so slightly. The front for its age is in pretty good condition with only minor gesso loss in areas. Please see close up of photos for condition. Its really old and not perfect but its a beauty. Not sure how you would hang, you will have to add some brackets to get it hung properly, it doesnt come with anything to hang it. However, it does just sit upright if you sit it down, could be attched somehow to wall as a shelf or mantle, or used as a window valance with curtains hanging from it, so many endless ... morepossibilites with this treasure. Shabby Antique Vintage Architectural Pediment Header Paint Gesso Cottage Chic
DESCRIPTION Up for auction is a wonderfully shabby. Ornate, wooden, architectural pediment, featuring old paint, applied gesso or carved ornamentation, and two drawer pulls that have been added in existing nail holes- little uneven which adds to the over all vintage charm of the piece. I'm not sure what this piece was originally a part of, but it a perfect compliment to a shabby cottage or country French farmhouse decor. I've sanded it smooth and then dry brushed three layers of different colored chalk paint over the original paint for a one of a kind piece. No hangers are attached, but if you are the winnning bidder and would like, I will add picture hanging wire to the old nails extending above the top of the pediment. Antique Primitive Carved Wood Architectural Salvage Pediment c1920’s Here’s a wonderful Primitive piece for your consideration– when I first saw this my thought was this was basically a piece that was never finished– something happened at the top causing part to chip off and therefore it was never finished; I think the black lines you see were supposed to have also been carved. Thankfully someone did save it and even put hanging wire on the back and had been enjoying this for some time. This measures 16 ½” tall x 10 ⅞” wide at the widest part and is 1 ⅞” thick at the top.
