An American made classic. beautiful solid cherry wood chest of drawers.this dates from Circa 1875 This piece dates from the Colonial Revival period. I restore antique and make custom furniture. I rescued this gorgeous chest. It was on it's way to a landfill, buried beneath a dark brown paint.I was intirgued by it's design, but I fell in love with this piece when I saw the stunning wood grains hidden under the brown paint. The wood is solid cherry with wonderful, rich grains and textures. Some parts of this chest may be red birch or maple.The cherry wood is both sapwood and heartwood. This accounts for the varied colors and grain patterns, in this beautiful chest The side panels are cherry veneered plywood.I love the blackened grain highlights on the side panels. The wood has many beauty marks including a small age related crack(non-structural) ... morein the top left edge(see photo) I think it adds great charm to the piece. Just like the nails across the top drawer where someone added a piece of wood to the top edge of the drawer(see photo) I think the top drawer edge looks awesome with the exposed nails and the wonderful colors.The"eye brow" shaped drawer pulls are all original. You won't find more beautiful and unique solid cherry wood pulls, the grain patterns are superb. I restored this chest from top to bottom. Including all of the drawers being taken fully apart and restored. I added a wood reinforcement strip in the back of one drawer. the drawers feature dovetail joinery on the front corners with box joinery on the rear corners.I custom added the trim(solid maple) on the bottom edge of the side panels I restored the entire finish by hand scraping, followed by many, many coats of hand rubbed varnish.The top drawer has a lock,without a key.This lovely chest has hard earned beauty marks such as nicks, dings etc, consistent with any fine antique. It was love at first sight when I met this Bureau/ Chest of Drawers. Circa 1890.needing to be loving restored to a majestic chest once again. I lovingly and meticulously restored this chest from top to bottom. Respecting it as the wonderful antique treasure it is.You can easily see it is a"chest on chest" style. It features beautiful walnut veneers and solid walnut woods. The solid brass hardware is all original and very intricate. Stunning really. I buffed it back to full glory. The lower drawers have a carving which outlines all the lower drawers together(see photo)There is a very small squiggle in the carving(close up photo) which was done by the maker on the lower drawer, it adds great character. No one has ever noticed it until I pointed it out to them. All of the drawers& glides/runners have been fully restored and slide ... moreexcellent. The Sheraton style legs with fluted corner posts enhance the lines of this chest.I restored the finish using many. Many coats of hand rubbed satin varnish which bringing out the gorgeous walnut grains. Built like a tank from all hardwood construction. I custom made the small piece of walnut trim in front of the backsplash.The two small doors are a very unique feature. I installed new magnetic catches for the doors. All of the drawers feature lock and keyed dovetail joinery. Strong, solid and secure displaying the finest craftsmanship by the maker. I restored the inside of all the drawers with the same hand rubbed satin finish as the exterior of the chest.The drawer bottoms are rich& beautiful grained mahogany. Like any fine antique.You will find character marks and minor imperfections in the this piece, such as nick, dings, filled holes, they add character and patina to this wonderful chest. English Regency 6 Drawer Chest Dresser, Egyptian Motifs, Mahogany, ~1820 Antique
This is an English. Circa 1820, six drawer chest or dresser. It is made with thick, bookmatched mahogany veneer over pine, double raised panel sides, and fluted columns resting on strong spade feet. The original Egyptian Revival gilt brasses celebrated Britain's 1798 defeat of Napoleon in The Battle of the Nile, and the subsequent discoveries of Egyptian art and culture. The chest is 50" high, 40 3/8" wide, and 23 1/8" deep. Five drawers are approximately 6 3/4" high, and the bottom drawer is 8 1/2" high. I cannot find a maker's identification, but the frame and drawers are hand numbered in pencil. This chest was professionally refinished approximately 30 years ago, and it has been used irregularly since that time. Small areas in the secondary wood of the drawers were filled at the time of refinishing, but ... morethis appears to have been done for cosmetic purposes only. There is no movement in any of the joinery including the legs, and the drawers work very well for a chest of this age. As is appropriate, I suspect the chest with drawers weighs 250 lbs. There are age appropriate scratches and bumps here and there, and particularly on the top and top drawer face. Also, there is long-term wear to the veneer at the location of the ring pulls. Many of the hardware posts(which hold the ring pulls) have been replaced, and the two original posts on the bottom drawer are a bit loose. Further, some of the nuts that fasten the pulls to the drawers have been replaced. Lastly, one of the drawer locks is missing, as is the key. I would recommend Ball and Ball, Exton for the repair, replacement and or keying of the locks. I believe the clean lines and strong profiles of this chest exemplify good Regency furniture. The reason we call it country is because of the little spindle spools on the side. The round walnut knobs, and just the sweet simplicity of the whole piece, but it is made of walnut. Very handsome Gentleman's Chest in the Eastlake style. Solid marble top! Made of Walnut with Cherry drawers. 6 drawers. Bottom two are side by side and have locks with key. On iron casters for easy mobility. Very ornate Maple leaf carving on the top. Has been appraised with an online service. Original owner is unknown. But for the time period they must have been well to do. Was purchased at an auction in the 1960's by my Grandfather in Kansas. Has been in my family ever since. Antique Mahogany Sheraton-Empire Chest Of Drawers Circa 1830's-40 This very handsome antique mahogany Sheraton-empire chest has four large drawers with the glove drawers and nicely done back splat. It's in a beautiful caramel swirled colored mahogany. The brass pulls are new replacements, all the drawers are dovetailed with chamfered bottoms an slide in and out very smoothly. The chest is 43 1/2 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 51 inches at highest point at top of back splat and is in very good condition with no visible repairs and just a mere age crack on either side which is very common and hardly noticeable. Antique burled birdseye walnut dresser. It has a white demilune beveled marble top and large center mirror. On either side of the mirror there are two curved cabinets with a shelf in each. Antique 1830's mahogany veneer step back chest of drawers. It comes from New England and has the original finish. The brasses are not original. But are from the 1800's. Scottish chest Mahogany Circa 1890 Glass knobs No key Hand cut dovetails Barley twist columns Bow front shape, Made around 1890. This mahogany Scottish chest of drawers is an impressive and beautiful piece of furniture. With six spacious drawers, all constructed with hand cut dovetails, this dresser boasts an impressive amount of storage space. The drawer configuration is a two over three graduated drawer configuration with a secret drawer just above the two small drawers at the top of the chest. The drawers are adorned with Victorian style glass knobs ... morethat contrast very nicely with the mahogany of the drawer fronts. There are two beautiful barley twist columns going up the sides of the chest giving that true Scottish look to the piece. There are locks with beautiful brass escutcheons, but no key. Perhaps one of the more distinguishing features of this antique Scottish dresser is the fact that it is bow fronted. Finding a bow front Scottish chest with such beautiful barley twist columns is very unusual! This Scottish chest has an abundance of storage space and is an impressive size. It is also in very good condition. There are very few issues which is great from an antique chest of drawers of this age. As shown in one of the pictures. The right barley twist column has a small missing section on the back of it at the top. On the left and right sides of the plinth base are some minor age separations. They are small and still strong. There are small dings in a few spots here and there but overall this Scottish chest is in better shape than most you see. It would be a welcome and warm addition to any home!
