This came from one of the OMI mission's in the N.W.T. of Canada. It is a vintage piece. Likely dating from the mid-1900s. My dad collected this from his best friend who was an Oblate Missionary in the N.W.T. This is in really good condition and has seen light wear. There doesn't appear to be any stains. But, there are some loose seams- under one arm and around the neckline. This is an easy job for any seamstress.here are minor stains, no rips or tears. The gold thread is exquisite. This is a stunning piece and would be a great addition to any religious artifact collection. The length is about 40" The width across the bottom is 37" From the underarm to the bottom ... moreis 22.5" As is typical of a Dalmatic. The sides are open. Stunning vintage burgundy and beige deacon's stole with reverse color end panels and long burgundy tassels of yarn. It is made of heavy woven material and is dog-legged and stitched together at the hip. One side is deep burgundy with beige trim and the other side is reversed. As is the case with most reversible stoles. There is no makers tag. The stole is 52 inches long from center neck to each tassel and 4 inches wide. Both of these labels appears to be upside down(see explanation below) I contacted the maker and got back ... moresome interesting information from their archivist: This is a University Graduation Gown. It is a very old artificial silk'London' style gown. Used originally at most London universities(not Cambridge or Oxford) this style is now used by many other universities, Hull, Northampton just a couple of examples. I cannot say the age as I don't know but the label tells me it is very old. It is used mainly for undergraduate degrees, Diplomas and Bachelors. The parchment where you can see a name was put in for that purpose. Labels are sewn in so that when the gown is folded the label is the correct way up and also there should be a big material loop below the label and in the old days the gown was hung over a peg by this and the yoke would fall down showing the label and name the correct way up. This gown is open down the front. With folded pleats along the opening. Around the yoke there are gathers stitched down for 2 to 3" all around the shoulders and back; the sleeves are gathered up in loose folds and tacked with a button, as shown- a braided cord secures the pleats below the button. Here. For your consideration, are two very unique items(take a look) They consist of two(2) candle items from a Roman Catholic Church that is scheduled for demolition. A church that was built in 1861, declared a historical national landmark, abandoned by the community and is now standing in a very humbling, humiliating state! The first item is a never melting candle. 36 inch tall, altar candle. It is"never melting" because it is made of plastic, with a reservoir tank that is nearly seven(7) inches deep and(2.5) inches in diameter that holds lighter fluid which can burn for weeks! Please view the photographs carefully and notice that the top cap which screws off. Contains a wick atop of itself, that also dips into the reservoir. It also has a very colorful set of bands around it as well as a distinctive black and white motive design ... moreat both the top, and bottom of it. Also take notice of the brass. Half dome, pieces that adorn it. The second item is a wax cylinder that is also very unique in function. It is simply a metal tube, 36 inches tall, covered in wax, that also has a colorful design(see the photographs) and was used by placing other ceremonial candles around it decoratively. These items were found. Discarded with many other items. The beauty of these items dictate that they are much more deserving than being treated as trash. The church. For anyone that may be interested, is named, Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels" R.C.C. formerly"St. Peters" in the city of Newark, N.J. This church was once adorned by some very magnificent statues, very beautiful stained glass windows, crafted by, and at the"Tiffany Glass Foundry/ Factory located in the North Ward of the city of Newark, which has now been converted to housing units.
