Rare Superb 18thC Metallic Brocaded Ecclesiastical Silk ~Orphreys or Re-Work~. I'm delighted to offer this rare and absolutely stunning antique 19th century French ecclesiastical silk. The cloth of gold silk is woven with a wonderful design of grapes. Vine leaves, and roses, together with an applied thickly padded wire and velvet covered Agnus Dei Lamb motif. The grapes and vine leaves have a special weave of wool on the back. Which makes them significantly raised, and they are covered with silver wire thread. There are some loose silver wires on some of the raised areas of the straight orphrey. Otherwise the pieces are in very good used condition. This superb fabric could be re-used as orphreys on a chasuble. Or of course could be re-worked. The last photo shows the weave of the silk on the reverse. Found this great condition RJ Toomey Comfort knit shirt 16.5-34 shirt at a small Catholic Church relief thrift store in Hanover. Pa. Asked the ladies about the shirt source. They said it was apart of a box of donations from a from a now retired church father. He wanted his extra church vestments to go towards raising money for the church relief. He was said to have made numerous trips to central America which explains the material of the shirt. The make of the material is polyester and must have provided good comfortable wear in very hot humid climates. Shirt is is very good condition no noted damage found. Years of wear remain. This is a very old(50 plus years) black Biretta that looks great for its age. It was made by the John Daleiden Co. of Chicago which is still visible on the head band in gold lettering. It is a size 6 and 7/8 or a small size. All the stitching is still in tack. It has a purple Monsignor's pom on it now but there is also a black pom included so it can work for any priest or cleric. This is usable or would make a nice conversation piece.

This embroidered stole is exquisitely embroidered in fine detail with gorgeous thread content. There is normal aging to this vestment that just adds to its charm. It is encased in two frames that measure 28" H x 11 1/2" W. The vestment width is 2 3/4" at its narrowest and 4 1/ at its widest. The length is 22" to end of fringe. They are protected by glass. The true colors of the vestment show in the lighter photos. The yellow photos are to show you the frames. Rarely do you see such fine needlework. It is becoming a lost art.
