Painted black all over. Then covered with dozens of exquisite, detailed, hand-painted figures including angels, human figures, insects, horses, dogs, ships, etc, in a gold decorated matrix. This one belongs in a museum. Classic design that allowed women wearing hoop-skirts to sit comfortably without the arms of the chair interfering with their dress. Probably New England in origin, first half of the 19th century. Wood peg construction. Seat height 15" seat is 19" across the front, 14 1/2" across back, and 13 1/2" deep; back stiles 41 5/8" high, rockers 24 1/2" long, front stretcher 17" slats are 11 5/8" across. Most interesting of the miniature paintings is that of a ship battle rendered on the bottom slat. One ship flying a red and white flag is firing on a ship flying what looks like the Liberian flag. But it could be a stylized version of an American flag. In that case it could be illustrating a battle that took place in the American Revolution or the War of 1812. Liberia was a country first colonized by repatriated African Americans in the first half of the 19th century, hence the flags similar design to the American flag. The flag illustrated on this chair came into existence on April 26, 1847, replacing a similar flag with a cross in the middle(The American flag itself had been flown in Liberia from 1837-1845) I'm hoping historians can shed some light on this as I have not been able to find a parallel example. CONDITION: Please see photographs. Overall in excellent condition. Structurally sound with no loose joints. Old repair to one of the leg-rocker joints. Seat is firm. Original painted surface with wear to painted figures and other decoration. I see no evidence that this chair was ever altered. Completely period. Antique English Mahogany Bow Front Chest of Drawers 19th Century
Antique English bow front regency chest of drawers with matched cross cut mahogany front. Pencil molding with turned mahogany pulls centered with etched mother of pearl inlay. The two over three dovetailed drawers rests on turned legs and a scalloped skirt. Dimensions are 47" in width, 20 1/4" in depth and 45" tall. This piece has a beautiful wood grain. Deep patina and original finish. The chest has appropriate signs of wear, some pencil molding is missing on the side of two of the drawers, some chipped veneer, and one of the pulls is missing the lower part of its turning. It is in great structual condition. All 3 drawers work well. It has no missing parts breaks or cracks. All drawers have there wood bottoms. It is very clean. It appears to have been refinished many years ago. The drawers are thick veneer over a solid secondary wood. The bottom drawer does have some cracking in the veneer but has been sealed when it was refinished. Also the bottom drawer has a small veneer chip and 2 places were the veneer has been patched with walnut veneer patches which just adds character to the chest. All the drawers have there locks but I do not have a key. The top of the chest is Walnut. The outside frame of the cabinet appears to be Chestnut. The sides ... moreare paneled Heart Pine. Late 19th century Vanity with mirror for restoration
You are looking at an antique vanity with the original mirror. some of the draw pulls are missing but the ones there are original. the casters are original and work. It measures 45 inches long. 31 1/2 inches high and 19 1/2 inches deep, including drawers. It needs some TLC and it would be a wonderful vanity. I'm trying to find the original screws but might not be able to. Not sure who made it but numbers are on the rear. The mirror is perfect. This is a classic antique-a small pine bureau with the two small drawers on top. Leftover from the Empire period. The patina is gorgeous and everything is solid though it is very, very old and so needs to be treated kindly. The drawers travel smoothly but not always straight, so you have to guide them along. Antique 1800s Dresser 19th Century Chest of Drawers Walnut Wood FREE SHIPPING
19th Century Chest of Drawers This is a fantastic piece of historical furniture. This is a chest of drawers or dresser from the early to mid 1800's. It appears to be constructed primarily of walnut wood. There are several distinguishing features that influence our opinion as to the date of this piece: The dresser was constructed with square-head nails. Which were used from the late 1700's to the late 1800's. It is constructed of solid-wood boards measuring up to 16" in width. Which could only have been made from very large trees long ago. The dovetails used to construct the front and back of the drawers are all hand-cut. The smallest drawer has 3 tails and 4 pins. And the larger drawers have up to 5 tails and 6 pins. The drawer bottoms are chamfered, meaning the front and side edges and the drawer bottoms are finished at ... morea slop. While the inside top of the drawer is flat. This was cut and finished by hand-held tools, which is an indication that it is pre-1840. All of the saw cuts in the wood appear to be parallel rather than circular. This indicates the use of mill saws during construction. The wood also appears to be hand-planed. The dresser features turned-wood pulls. Which we believe to be original. It also has paneled sides, which was a feature in many early Philidelphia chests of drawers. This piece is in good. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There is a significant crack in the drawer second from the top. It is still structurally sound. All of the drawers have locks, but we do not have the matching key. This piece has cracks, wear, chips, discoloration and repairs that are consistant with a piece of this age. The"flaws" only contribute to the primateive nature of this chest of drawers. They quietly tell the stories of its life. The dresser measures 45 7/8" tall by 42 5/8" wide by 20" deep. The drawer faces are all 36" wide. The height of the drawer faces from top to bottom are: 1st- 9 3/4" 2nd- 5 3/4" 3rd- 6 3/4"

Here is a really nice early 19th century chest of drawers. This item is overall in good shape and I'm not sure but looks like original finish. Missing one of the drawer pulls and top of dresser has a split between the seam of wood. Right side of dresser has same type of split between two boards. Dresser exhibits old scratches and mars associated with antique furniture. Finish on the dressers top also has some issues with staining. Wear and discoloration. It may have been an apprentice piece. It has scrollwork on the bottom on all three sides. An inlaid wood top, and faux ivory knobs. It measures 9 3/4" tall, 5" deep and 11" wide, with the top of the dresser extending out and measuring 12" wide, and 5 3/4" deep. This beautiful Nut Mirror is a rare piece of Antique. The wooden carvings are slightly golden. The inside is nut or wallnut fineer. Look at the backside and see that everything looks okay.
