This unique piece stands 68 inches tall at the center and is 30 inches wide and 18 inches ... morein depth. This is a two-piece secretary which makes moving it a whole lot easier. What caught my eye on this piece was it was a davenport desk. But instead of the typical slant front, this one has a secretary section on top. This is not a married piece, these two started life together, guaranteed. The top has nice intricate Eastlake type of carvings and half pinwheels surround the gallery. The desk top or writing surface drop downs to reveal a nice writing desk. Complete with great little cubbyholes and two drawers. There are no drawers missing, and all the hardware on this piece is original. We have the original key and it is included. The finish is original and has a rich. Warm patina. As with most old furniture, one can see areas where the finish has worn a little from use, which suits me just fine. I like to know that an old piece was used, not just displayed. I am sure if one were to use some stain in places, it would darken these wear spots right up, and then a nice coat of paste wax to continue to preserve this piece. This is local pick-up only. We will be glad to work with the winning bidder and local storage is not a problem. We are willing to deliver within a reasonable commute from the Queen City and we are always traveling to shows. Not sure of history of this piece. We obtained it from an estate sale in Johnston County, North Carolina. One of the most interesting thing about this desk is that in the upper corner of the right door there is a piece of paper taped inside that lists the presidents of the United States and has 24 of them with Woodrow Wilson being the last one and the date listed is 1893. This piece looks like perhaps the top may have been added later, not sure, and also where the slant top is looks like it was altered at one time as well. An amazing piece, all pegged. Three drawers at your lap, a pull out writing board on either side and as you can see, two compartments that swivel out at the front corners. This desk is wonderful. I was told that it came from the Jim Wright family. I talked to a friend of Mr. Wright's and he does remember his father and mother loving antiques and having a roll top. Mr. Jim Wright studied law and became Speaker of the House in 1986. In 1989 he was elected Mayor of our Weatherford Texas. I actually worked for him during the Vietnam War mailing out flyers for our service men. This desk is in great condition with original finish. It is solid and heavy and is on rollers. Description: This listing is for a ... moreChippendale Period Slant Front Desk circa 1770-80. Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

The following is a modified version of the appraisal. Modified only to read clearly to an audience: American golden oak cylinder front desk. Circa 1890. Also, it appears to be quarter sawn oak, also referred to as tiger oak. Those are the lines in the wood that run across the grain. This is usually an indicator of a quality piece and is a desirable feature. It is unusual that it has the tilt writing surface which is adjustable for drawing. Drafting, or perhaps other purposes. Also very unusual to have the hidden compartments on each side of it. There is another hidden compartment in this desk) The condition is as good as it appears in the photos, with no significant damage or repairs, and it has an old or original finish, this desk is valuable. Believe this is RIFT not QUARTER SAWN OAK. It is an"S" style desk, most likely mfg. between 1890 and 1900, notice the hand done dovetailing on the and the carved drawer handles. The locks on the tambour and center drawer are from Corbin Cabinet and Lock Company. It was disassembled in the late 60's and completely refinished. This desk has 2 Pull Out writing surfaces. And is 60"L 32"W 49"H and consists of 6 pieces; 2 Pedestals, Tambour section, desk top insert, and the lower back connecting section between the 2 Pedestals(many of the desks shown here don't have this) Desk is panel sided. Dividers in the desk top insert can be removed for reconfiguration. I have keys for the 2 locks. This desk will dress up any room that it is put in. There are minor scratches and one small one that needs some sanding out. VERY IMPRESSIVE and BEAUTIFUL wood! Looks like a lawyers office or Banker or Doctor from the old days. just real nice! It has accessories- they are in need of repair/refurbishing. There is a brass swivel ink-well/pencil holder in the center. One of the ink well rings(1 of 3) is gone. It screws to back. And lost screw. Needs to be short so it won't interfere with the roll-top when it is open. There is 4 letter sized drawers. Two have need of handle repair. There are two perfectly good"secret" pencil/pen holders disguised as corner molding. All the slots are long. And they are all there and work fine- great for organizing reciepts! There is a leather hanging trash bin. Which used to fit under the desk, but the leather has disintegrated and needs to be replaced. Canvas would work fine. The holder to hang it with is missing, but when it was there, the whole system was very NICE and I loved it! All the drawers have adjustable slim pieces of wood to change the shape of the interior. NO RESERVE For Auction is this antique Oak"S" Curve Roll Top Desk. Single Pedestal. Made by the"Indianapolis Cabinet Co. Indianapolis, Ind. The lock on the desk top is dated 1884. There is no lock inside the key hole/lock compartment. It has recessed panels on both sides and back. The Roll Top slides up and down. Not a smooth slide. You have to hold both handles to open and close. It tends to stick when sliding. The flat surface of the desk appears to have been refinished at one time and it has a brownish stain on the desk. The top portion of the desk sets on the base. It does not bolt into the base. There are signs of wear in the form of scratches. Chips to the wood and repairs that I tried to show in the many photos. Hello.I have a antique Amish Pennsylvania Dutch children's school desk up for your consideration today and being modeled by my beautiful niece Haley.It was manufactured in Lancaster.PA. and purchased by a friend while shopping in Lancaster for antiques around 25 years ago.It is a very well built desk made from local hard woods incorporating I believe mortise and tenon pegged joinery for the legs, and tung and grove on the table top and seat helping to insure and continue its longevity.Those craftsmen gave you a lot back in the day.I have this chair listed as being built around the 1930 to 1940 but it may very well be much older! The desk and chair have the usual ware that all school desks have, like some writing and scratches and even a few nicks from the school children themselves, but that is to be expected and even considered desirable ... morepatina in today's market! As a note the center board on the chair seat is a little lose as it has probably been for the last 50 yrs.or so but with this construction method I don't believe is going anywhere and should be just fine.And also is missing the left leg cross brace but remains very sturdy and hard to notice.The desk measures 24" wide at the table top x 18 1/4" deep x 26 1/2" high.No shipping on this item. Antique Oak Slant Top 2-Level Desk c. Late 1800's Lift Top 2 Drawers Green Felt
Antique oak slant top desk. Slant top section lifts on brass H-hinges from the top providing an excellent storage space beneath. Secondary wood is pine. The flat side area has been covered in green felt and has two small drawers. Drawers are framed with molding and have decorative wooden pulls and sturdy dovetail joints. Wide turned legs complete the Victorian-era look of the desk. This desk dates from the late 1800's. Overall. The desk is in very good condition. There is a little bit of sagging in the middle of the desk, where the two sides join, which has caused some of the wood to separate. See picture. There is also a perfectly round hole in the back of the flat section where another back piece may have been attached at some point. There is some wear to the feet, corners and surfaces, which is to be expected on a piece this age. It ... morelooks as if someone has filled in most of the nail holes with wood filler at some point. Antique Wooden Slant Top Desk w/2 Inside Drawers
This antique wooden slant top desk opens up to reveal a storage area divided into compartments in the back. Two of which have drawers in them. The desk measures 33” wide. 23” deep and is 30 1/2” high in the front and 38 1/2” high in the back, including the back panel. It has a keyhole and some metal hardware inside but there is no key and the lid does not latch down. This desk most likely originated in the South. I do not know the age of the piece but would guess late 1800s? The inside compartments and drawers may have been added at a later date. It is not pine or oak but otherwise I am not sure what kind of wood it is made from. The outside has been stained at some point but the inside shows how light-colored the wood was originally. The piece is very sturdy and is in good condition. The finish shows its age. There are some minor scratches, ... morescuffs, etc. There are a couple of small age cracks in the lid. 19th Century American Sea Captains Desk. With Ink Well Set This is a Magnificent RARE Ornate Captains Desk; it has the incredible workings of a master craftsmanship and is crowned with gold monogram crest at the top with the initials CVF. This is a two piece heavy desk set; the top portion of the desk features a turned brass spindle rail above in black and gold. There is a door on the left that opens to reveal the 16 map compartments and one larger shelf for documents. The inside of the door panel a detailed colorful painted scene of a lighthouse surrounded by rough sea with ships in the background. In brilliant gold, red, yellow, blue, white, pink, green colors with black low lights. There are also engraved borders and scrolls accenting the wood on top along with gold accents. The top center portion has a roll up compartment with six document ... moretrays. Two pull out trays above and below with knob handles. The tray below offers an antique elaborate carved wooden and metal ink well set with pen rests. There are brass nautical pulls in the shape of cleats on the left and right of the center. The Interior and compartments are painted sky blue; there are two tower columns on each side of desk with gold paint inlays geometric designs, scroll work, foliage fleur-de-lis decorations throughout and hand painted floral design in yellow green, red and blue. The top right hand side offers a door that opens to four large compartments with a panel that is painted with a detailed colorful scene of beautiful sail ships at sea. The left and right side of the desk feature two gold frame panels one on each side with lovely floral scenes in vivid colors. There are two smaller top drawers that have ornate brass swing handles and key hole. CLOCK T he clock has 3 different hand designs and incased in bronze? solid brass. The face is a natural cream ivory? porcelain with black Roman numerals. The face is aged with some hairlines but the numerals are bold without any color loss. The clock has 2 front legs and a weighted bronze pendulum that you can view from the photo. A rare Kidney shaped Louis XV French ladies desk with elevated writing surface. Wonderful rosewood and marquetry top. Fabulous inlay of quill pens, paper scroll, and ink sanders. This is truly a spectacular find! We have never had a finer or daintier desk to offer. It does have some normal wear, tear, and damage. I believe it to be around 1870. The drawer bottom and sides are hand planed and hand dove tailed. The measurements of this little gem are 27.5' wide 17' deep and 30.25' tall. We are selling it as we found it in the attic of a coastal Maine home. More pictures upon request for serious inquiries. We have looked for a signature but have not found one, but i believe this was definitely made by an important cabinet maker.

Another Find From“Stuff In Our Barn” This unique partner’s/lawyer's desk was made by Otto Duker& Co. in Baltimore MD. Dated 1888. This desk hosts a walnut-stain on poplar wood. There are eight(8) dove-tail style drawers, four(4) on each side of the desk. All drawers pull out nicely except one sticks a little. One drawer has been replaced using the same dove-tail method. Some drawers also have locks. These desks were used in offices where professionals. Lawyers and partners would sit on each side of the desk and collaborate. The desk's'blotter' inlay is old and could be replaced. There are some cigarette burns on the edge of the desk. Two legs have either been"chewed" by something or chipped off over the years. Victorian Cylinder Roll top desk. Black Walnut. w drawers
Drop by check it out. Nice desk with nicks dings and condition to be expected. You will like it if these are what you are looking for. Some had bookcases set on top. Some did not. This would have had one but I have had this for years with no top. Now it's time to let it go. I will be happy to sell you a couple of clocks for the top shelf and they will look great on there. Black walnut. Victorian style/ age. Has original twin or double wheel castors porcelain? Brass handles could be repro but look good. Aprox 45 inches tall by 43 1/2 inches wide at the top board. 23 inches deep when closed at the writing area depth. This is a nice desk offered at a great price as these things need to go. Beautiful Antique American Bureau Drop Front Desk C.1880-1900
This beautiful piece of American history is constructed from solid American oak that has aged beautifully. The hand tooling on the drop front and cabinet panels is meticulous and detailed. There are 2 small side drawers featuring period brass handles and 1 wide center drawer to the front that is secured with a key latch. The pull-out rails are solid and in perfect condition. Generally antiques of this period will possess subtle elements of wear. Which invariably add to the charm of the piece. The short, sturdy feet show some age appropriate wear. All of the drawers and the lower cabinet doors open easily. The piece was professionally restored at some point without compromising it’s charm or the elegant tooling. There is a horizontal split straight across the lower portion of the drop front panel. The dovetail joints are rock solid. These ... moredetails are clearly depicted in the images as presented. This piece is a classic example of the fine American heritage in oak furniture crafting. Rich in detail and character of the period making it an exceptional compliment to any early American décor.
