ANTIQUE SANTO MASK WOOD SCULPTURE, RARE FORM, 16.75 inches tall
Offered is a rare large hand carved Santo mask sculpture. Most likely made in the 19th century. This mask is very unusual being carved from one piece of wood and includes features of a halo or crown and hands that are praying. It is all hand carved out of natural wood and was not made for tourist trade. It is 16.75 inches tall by 8.25 inches at its widest part. The mask is in very good condition with two wood cracks toward the top of its crown. We are unsure of its origin; it may have been carved in the Taos, New Mexico region or possibly Mexico. The stand is not included. This rare form mask is expertly carved and very collectible.

Vintage carving of St. Jude. Mid 1900's. Probably 1960. South American origin, but country is unknown. Signed on the back with A, which is unusual since these were not often signed. Very nicely carved beard with clear facial features. The robe is also well carved. Statue measures 12" tall and 4 1/4" wide. This piece would make a lovey addition to your collection! 19th c San Jose Santo holding Baby Jesus. Overall height is approx 35 inches. 31 inches without halo(separate piece) and pedestal. Jesus infant has glass eyes and real lashes. The body of Joseph and the Baby are primitive in comparison to the heads and hands of each figure- this large church piece may have had two carvers. The staff is a contemporary addition for display purposes- the original is missing. Halo attaches to 2 holes in Saints neck. And he stands on a wood pedestal by means of pegs. Figures would have been robed, so the bodies were not considered as important as the faces.

vintage Latin American Santo wood carving mid 1900's San Miguel, Saint Michael
Vintage carving of St. Michael. Carved in the mid 1900's, probably 1950's. Mexican in origin, from the village of San Miguel de Allende where these were once popular. The santeros in San Miguel were once famous for their work and the archangel Michael was a favorite subject. Very nicely carved with strong. Clear facial features. The arms are pegged and movable, so he can be seen raising his sword or raising the scales of justice. This lovely vintage carving is unusual in its size and excellent carving. Statue measures 20" tall and 8" wide. 10" deep from the front to the tips of the wings, and weighs almost 4 pounds. This piece would make a lovey addition to your collection! Antique carved wood Santo Philippine 1800's virgin figure
Beautiful antique religious carving of a virgin figure. It is from the Philippines. Acquired with a collection in 1969. I will be selling more from the collection in coming weeks. So keep checking. This carving is 10 3/4" tall and 4" wide. This statue is very nicely carved with graceful folds in the front of the robe. Her hands are folded in front of her. There is a very nice patina especially visible on the back of the figure. Although the paint is worn. The light blue of the inner robe and the darker blue of the outer robe are still quite visible. Outstanding 15th/16th Century Spanish Carved Wood Santo Sculpture Saint Francis
Superb Late 15th to 16th Century Altar Fragment Entirely hand carved in wood. We can tell it's an altar fragment from the base and side where the Saint Francis must have been attached to a monumental tableau. We purchased him as Spanish. But the work is very, very reminiscent of what was popular in Germany during the period. As you can see from the Creglingen Altar below. He has some old wood-worm damage. But apart from that he's solid and stands up perfectly well. The face is magnificently carved. The piece just screams quality. He measures a whopping 103 cm tall(41 inches) Free shipping at the buy-it-now price. This is a rare. Antique find from Guerrero, Mexico. It is a very large, intricately detailed, quality, wood carving depicting the" Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción" Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. It is estimated to be over 50 years old by the Mexican national that I obtained it from. It is carved of a rich cedar(slightly heavier than pine) with warm tones of brown and gold. It is a solid carved piece. With no interior hollowing. It is carved smooth with no rustic edges like most of the modern carvings. It has amazing detail and skill evident in the beautiful hands, the halo, face, gown, and faces below the gown. She is large, measuring 17" tall by 6 1/2" wide by 5 1/2" deep. This beautiful piece will be a great addition to your collection. St. Roche was born in 1295 at Montpelier. France into a wealthy and noble family. At age 20 he gave away his fortune to become a pilgrim, devoting his life to the service of plague victims. He himself was stricken, but was miraculously fed every day by a dog bringing him a loaf of bread.
