This is a statue of Joseph and Jesus as a child. It is from France. It is about 11.8” There is a chip below the hand holding the stick and a chip on the foot of the child. It is made of soaped plaster or stuck. Please look closely at pictures to see the chips. They are kind of hard to see because the statue is all one color. Especially the foot chip. Her face is sweetly and delicately formed. Her dress softly draped The statue is mounted on a square base decorated with 4 cherubs. she has the particularity to have her hands cut. This was a tradition in South West of France when women worked with intimate parts as a midwife or a doctor. They cut Mary's hands.to be protected. EXCEPTIONAL ANTIQUE HAND CARVED MADONNA MARY w snake Italian French? This is quite a beautiful carving of Mary. It measures approx. 12 inches tall and the base is approx. 3 by 3 1/2 inches. Nice old patina. Very interesting that her foot is on the head of a snake. Referring I think to Gen. 3:15 and Mary being the mother of Jesus. The wood has just a touch of pigment to give it a soft light color. Her face is beautifully carved. My guess is that this is Italian or possibly French in origin. Probably 40 or 50 years old but I would not be surprised if it were much older. CONDITION: There is a chip to the edge of the cowl on Mary's head. She is missing two fingers on one hand and one on another. See photo.

Antique French Porcelaine de Paris Statue Virgin Mary Miraculous Medal Pose 19c
Offering for your consideration an antique French Porcelain de Paris statue of the Virgin Mary on a pedestal base. The facial features are hand painted as is the beautiful gold work on her robe and mantle. Her mantle is covered with little stars and there is a gold"M" for Marie(Mary) or perhaps for"Mere" Mother) on the pedestal base. Condition is excellent for an antique piece of this age with some VERY slight wear to the gold on the center fold of her robe. There are no breaks or chips or cracks. Someone in her long history added plaster of Paris to the inside of the base to keep it from tipping over. It has added weight to stabilize the statue and probably has preserved it in such superb condition. It of course does not show when the statue is displayed. There is some discoloration from age and some additional rub marks. See Photos for Condition) Description: This is a very old French statue made of plaster commonly called"chalkware" It was found at an estate sale with many other vintage religious chalkware pieces. This statue appears to be representative of Mary Magdelene ascending into heaven with angels. Please see photos. There are traces of gilt remaining particularly to the face. A strong and sturdy item. Ancient eye hook on the back to wall mount it. Very securely attached. Good condition.
