And died of malaria. Her Beautification miracle was that she restored sight to a girl who had been. Blinded. Her order was the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. She cared for poor children in. We are delighted to offer you this trio of items relating to the ever popular St Claire of Assisi. She fell under the fervour of St Francis of Assisi and became the first female Franciscan. Such was her influence that after the death of St Francis. Her sisters were called Poor Ladies or Poor Clares after their foundress. There are many thousands of Poor Clares around the world today, both of the primitive(mitigated) observance or Reformed Colletine Poor Clares. Whatever their title. They all remain fiercely loyal to Francis and Clare and are true Franciscans in their poverty and austerity of life. St Claire's body is shown in the coloured framed photograph at the top of the scan. I have visited this Shrine in Assisi in the Basilica where all pilgrims visit. It is very moving as is the upper Basilica where the San Damiano crucifix is preserved ... moreand venerated. In the transept behind metal grilles. The Poor Clares with their faces veiled, pull back the curtains from time to time to show the actual patched habit of St Francis, which has been mended and sewn by Claire herself. Together with the framed photo. Is a prayer card with an English prayer on the reverse. The star of the trio is the small folded envelope(measuring about 2.5 by 1.5 inches) Printed in French it describes the contents as dust taken from inside the stone coffin in which was discovered the body of St Claire on 23rd September 1850 after it had been lost for centuries having been hidden to save it from profanation. On the back of the little envelope is an embossed paper seal guaranteeing the authenticity of this item. There is no tearing or folding on the envelope which is in pristine condition. The feast of St Claire is observed on the 10th or 11th August. Depending which calendar you follow. This is a beautiful little collection for any devotee of one of the most appealing and beloved of all the Saints nearly eight hundred years after she died.
