Early LANE c. 1950 'Virginia Maid' Cedar Chest--3/4" Solid Red Cedar Panels
Guess what? I took apart a Lane Cedar Chest once only to find out that it was not really cedar chest at all. What it revealed itself to be was certainly enlightening. For concealed between a thin layer of cedar veneer. An even thinner layer of decorative fascia veneer, and a 3/4" thick top strip of cedar running horizontally along the edge was in fact a huge sheet of PARTICLE BOARD! Prior to this rather cleverly deceitful method of increasing a company's profit with the use of inferior material under the guise of quality woods. There used to be a disclaimer attached to such pieces as this LANE'VIRGINIA MAID' CEDAR CHEST This disclaimer identifies the products used in the construction of furniture. And on the inside of the lid it says: 70% MADE OF 3/4" RED CEDAR PANELS(JUNIPERUS VIRGINIANA) So this isn't one of those ... moreparticle board pieces. It is almost all solid wood except the veneers on the front and top, and the decorative base. ART DECO STYLE The blotchy areas are just where varnish remains-almost all of the varnish has totally disappeared. Leaving a raw piece with just those blotchy areas mentioned-the piece is almost immaculate condition otherwise. Danish modern style cedar chest by Lane in excellent condition. This mid century modern style blanket chest is completely cedar lined. Stands on sturdy walnut peg legs with brass caps, has a bottom pullout drawer and is totally original, excellent with just a couple small nicks. Outside measurements are 18 by 40 and stands 20 high. The top and outside finishes are walnut solids and veneers. Note the date stamp: for those who do not know. All vintage Lane products denote there date or manufacture with the serial number. backwards, in this case Aug 21, 1963. It stands on Danish style peg legs. MCM Walnut Veneer Lane Cedar Chest in Very Nice Original Condition 60's Danish
Lane Mid Century Modern Cedar Chest This is a lovely cedar chest finished(if I’m understanding the serial number) on 04-07-65. It shows a bit of wear from the years– the ordinary bumps. Nicks, and scratches even well-cared-for furniture shows- but remains in very nice vintage condition. Its veneers. Which are complete, show even coloration– apparently it’s been carefully stored out of the sun for all these years. The air-seal gasket is still intact on the lid. It has one spot(approx. 1/16" x ½" please see the closeup) of what looks like nail polish on the top. There are small scratches and indentations on the top. Of which I’ve tried to show the worst. When the light is coming across the top of this chest you can see proof that it is almost 50 years old. There is one quarter-sized spot on the top where the varnish is slightly ... moreopaque- you can just barely see it in one of the photos. Oddly enough I can't see it when looking at the top- only in the photos. The previous owners were smokers. Though I can no longer notice any smell you’ll know best whether this lovely cedar chest will work for you. The chest is 43 ¼" wide x 16 ¾" deep x 20" tall. In spite of it’s minor flaws it is a lovely chest and a pleasure to see. I’m not the original owner. The original locks are not included in this sale. New locks are available for free from Lane’s website. Feel free to ask for more pictures. Let me know what you want to see and I'll be glad to oblige. This is a miniature Lane Cedar Chest that measures 8.75 x 4.75 x 3.25 inches that evidently was designed for giving to a boy on graduation day. Or else for a basketball playing girl. It is stamped inside the lid"Sports Box By Lane" and on the base"C, 1996 The Lane Company, All Rights Reserved" If you are familiar with these small size Lane chests, you will remember how graduating high school girls, as far back as the 1930's or 40's, would be invited to go to their local furniture stores and pick up their graduation gift from Lane.a cedar chest for saving trinkets, jewelry, and mementos. I received one when I graduated back in the 1960's. This is an unusual one that you hardly ever see. The basketball court is painted on the lid in black, green, and brown. It would be a wonderful graduation gift for a son or ... moredaughter who plays basketball. The box has very little wear.a few pencil marks inside the box as if someone stored pencils in it. The few nicks in the wood are under the stain so must have been a natural part of the wood and not damage to the box. It no longer has the key and would be a great gift for graduation.

This is a Cedar Hope Chest manufactured by the famous Lane Furniture company. It has a full cedar interior and fold down shelf with felt bottom. The exterior has faux draws with handles. I inherited this hope chest from my mother and it’s at least 53 years old. I can’t use it as I don’t have the room. It’s in good condition but there’s some cosmetic issues I think could easily and cheaply be fixed making it perfect. The inside dimensions are 15-1/4” H x 15-1/2” W x 44-3/8” L. 1960's cedar chest by Lane, beautiful needlepoint embroidery top dark pine color
My mother bought the cedar chest back in the mid 60's. I think she got it at the Barker Brothers furniture store in west Los Angeles. It has a dark pine or Ebony or whatever finish you want to call it. It probably will ship UPS Freight or maybe even USPS parcel. Just depends. The embroidered top is factory original, it came that way and kinda reminds me of early colonial as far as the style goes. This has the original lock and if you want, you should replace it if you have small children or grandchildren as this is supposed to be airtight and will lock when closed. I understand that Lane furniture makes a child proof lock so that they can't get locked in but you would have to order that from Lane and I don't know what the cost is. This is a beautiful 1970's Lane cedar hope chest. As you can see in the pictures it in beautiful shape. It measures 48.5l x 21.5t x 18d. I have children in the house so for safety reasons the lock assembly has been removed but it does come with the chest as well as the key. And is simple to reinstall. Vintage Lane Cedar Chest Style Number 02221- this is 29" tall. 43.5" wide and 18.75" deep, the bottom drawer pulls out(the top two are dummy drawers) bottom drawer has heavy wear to one side on the top and bottom of drawer front, top lifts up to store blankets etc, the top has 4 large spots of finish damage(as seen in photos) interior looks to be in good condition, this has exterior wear with some scuffs and scratches, the veneer on the feet has a bit of separation, comes with one key for the top lock, Serial Number: 840211. Vintage 4' LANE Cedar Chest w Leather Bench Top & Fancy Wood Inlay AWESOME
For sale is the nicest Lane Cedar Chest I have ever came across! This is a beauty of a chest with a very nice black leather cushioned top and a very fancy front wood inlay and its on wheels. This chest is 4 Foot long. Stands 16" tall, and is 16" deep. Please note that I have removed the lock due to Ebay policy as the lock on it was one that automatically latches. Lane does give new locks for free however, you call them at 800-327-6944. This is in Beautiful condition! There is one minor scratch on the left side that you can see in the last picture and there is one screw on one of the back hinges that has been replaced. I got this at an Estate Sale and you can tell it has not been sat on as the Leather and cushion is in Pristine condition, no cracks, no tears, no wear at all. My best guess is that this comes from the 1970's, maybe ... morelate 60's. This is the real deal and not a knockoff, this will be one of your favorite pieces of furniture. All the furniture at the Estate Sale I got this at was all high quality stuff and in great condition, its been Very well taken care of.
