Antique Wash Basin & Pitcher Ironstone Ironware Set Bowl Marked Flo Blue
This antique. Authentic wash basin and pitcher are made of ironstone, probably in the 1800's. The impressed makers mark is on the basin only. Two animals facing each other in between a shield. It could be a dragon or a lion facing a bird. It's hard to tell. Underneath it says Flo Blue 1850. The pitcher only has 1850. I realize this does not look like anything the term is used with today. I have not been able to find any information on this mark. My great aunt was a huge antique collector and this set came from her. She passed in 1968. The basin or bowl is 5" tall and 15 3/4" across. Both pieces have been glazed completely. The colors are cream and shades of brown mostly. With a reddish undertone in the center of the pitcher. The pitcher handle is 12" high and the body is 8" wide. It has a beautiful shape and the ... morepattern really accents the shape. Some photos are with a flash. It has been sitting in a garage apartment for almost 50 years untouched. I repaired a chip on the base of the pitcher. There are a few spots where the color is gone. Just flea bites and one place on the upper edge of the bowl. The bottom rims both show some signs of wear. The Flo Blue mark is something I personally have not seen. I believe this piece was made in England. I also believe the term flow blue has been used to describe a look and now is known as a process. To me. This set is evidence of a company or a manufacturer of that name. Some always cry forgery if they aren't familiar, but I don't believe a forger wouldn't use Flo Blue on a brown piece. It feels like this could be a piece of history that we have lost. If anyone knows anything about the mark and the Flo Blue name. I would love to know! Antique Wash Basin and Pitcher Made by Sorosis Beautiful white ceramic with turquoise blue floral patterns on this wash bowl and pitcher combination. Absolutely lovely detail. Reminiscent of what one might have found in an old French or English palace. According to consignor this is from the 1920's. It is starting to be rare to find both the bowl and matching pitcher intact. Bottom of both items is branded"Sorosis" Some wear from age. This beautiful set is in very good condition with only one issue. See last pic, which seems to be a void or bubble burst rather than a chip. It is about 3/8" long. No other chips or cracks. It also has gold loss but, really, in wonderful condition. The mark is on both pieces, more pronounced on the basin, a crown with a ribbon below, the ribbon with the letters MC. This set is a brilliant light and dark blue flowered pattern on a white background. It is considered transfer ware made in the strafforshire area of England. The stamp on the back of these pieces are hard to read. It appears to be the English Royal Crest. It may or may not indicate a royal warrant. The pitcher is like new. No chips or cracks, unfortunately, the bowl has a very small chip behind the rim of the bowl. I took a picture of it, last photo. You cannot see it unless your looking for it. I priced it accordingly due to the minor defect. These pieces are beautiful! The pitcher stands 9' tall, the body on the bottom 10X17, bowl round 30, deep 2.5 to 3' Please look at all photos. This is a great set in excellent condition. A large MC Crown Pitcher and Basin with the marks on the bottom of both pieces(please see the pictures) The gold wash is all there, none has rubbed off. It is in excellent shape and has been well taken care of. The bowl is oblong, measuring 18 inches long, 14 inches wide and 4 1/2 inches deep. The Pitcher is 12 1/2 inches tall is also slightly oblong in shape 9 wide and 8 wide opposite the handle side. This listing is for an antique flow blue Wash Bowl/Basin and pitcher. The two pieces are in good condition. The pitcher has some staining on the inside. The dimensions for the Pitcher are 12"x12" and the Basin is 19" x 15" Truly lovely antique.
