Description This is an antique carved wood- I think it is oak- pediment. It measures 52-1/2" long by 14" high and 3" deep. It has its original beveled mirror in the center. Now, we’re talking two stories, an attic and a basement PACKED with antiques- it’s hard to imagine, and all of it just sitting for two decades. These folks had amassed a huge antique collection- many many items dating back to the early 1800s and before. There’s some gorgeous pieces of primitive Americana that I found. I also have the last of my farm auctions and South Dakota finds listed this week, so there’s something for everyone! I was saying in one of my other listings how I bought a whole large box filled with a mixture of old antique hand carved pediments at the auctiion- I'll be listing them for weeks. So be sure to keep checking. This one is soooo pretty- and, it has one nail sticking out the back which I've left where it is, because I want you to see that it is an old forged iron sqaure nail. I don't know if this piece came off of a larger architectural piece, or if it was a piece of furniture, but whatever it was, it was grand, for sure. Measuring 5 1/8" widest, it is 8 1/8"tallest and 1 3/4" thickest. It weighs 1/2 lb and is all hand carved out of one solid piece of wood. The finish is beautiful on this one- a little dusty(it needs a cleaning, I have not cleaned it orr messed with the as found patina in any way) but really, with veryvery little wear that can be seen. Although this fella has some damage, I just couldn't let that get in the way of how beaitiful he is. It's carved from one piece of solid turned wood- you can see the marks on either end from the turning, and the carving is of two lady's heads- one upside down, depending upon how you tunn it. The detail is exquisite- please supersize and look at all of my photos. It doesn't appear to have ever been stained or varnished- the dark color of the patina is natural, I do believe. That being said, I do think that it looks lighter in my photos on my screen than it does to the eye. It measures 2 3/4" wide, 3 3/4" deep and 13 3/4" tall. It's heavy, weighing a smidge under 2 lbs. The back as wells as the ends are flat. It is in excellent solid and sturdy condition. There's minor small cracks to the wood where there is no movement at all. There's some teenie nicks and nibbles to the wood- and one that looks like it could have been a fallen out knot, or original- I'm showing it in photo 6 and it's on one of the ends. Offered is a nice antique wood pediment backsplash with great carved wood designs. I believe the wood to be mahogany or oak. But not sure. It came from the estate of a family member who was born in the early 1890's so would probably date around the turn of the century. Measures 47" long, 8" wide(in center) Bottom is 3/4" thick, and top center approx 2" thick, tapering out to 1" thickness. Original finish, some"blistering" of the varnish or stain. Three unique vintage architectural salvage wood pieces. All are in very good vintage condition. Will need some cleaning, I will leave that up to their new owner, I don't know enough about old wood to clean it for fear or damaging it. First there is a nice hand carved pediment that measures 18 in. across X 5 in. at the tallest place and 3/4 in. in depth. Next is a unique fan shaped piece with some carving on it, the measurements are 10 in. from point to top X 8 in. at it's widest points and 1 in. at it's deepest depth. Measuring just 5 1/4" tall, it is 1 3/8" widest and only 1/4" thick(maybe just a smidge under) There's 1 round small mounting holes about 1" down from the top, and then there's a sliver(about ... more1/4" long and very thin) of air space at the bottom- at the seam of where the two sides of the"trunk of the tree" come together, right on top of the round ball shape that is there- that's original to the making, I don't think it's meant as a mounting hole, but you could use it as one too if you had a small enough nail. I'm showing in photos 10-12 that the bottom corner edges of the"tree trunk" as well as the bottom left of the base perimiter rim of the trunk look as if they were once part of a larger piece- broken off from that piece, the edges in those spots are not smooth. It's reallyreallyreally hard to notice, though- you have to look for it to see. There's no structural issues- it's in excellent solid and sturdy condition. The patina is dark and old- ranging from a medium brown to a dark brown on the front(and darker to almost black on the back) and I do think darker in person than the image on my screen in my photos(it's the light reflecting off of all the snow outside!
