Joseph Pech along with his sons W. J. and Frank established the Buckeye Pottery in Macomb in 1882. Pech. Born in Bohemia on June 15, 1827, apprenticed for 12 years as a potter in Vienna, Austria. Buckeye Pottery was located on Carroll Street. Near the railroad. At the peak of its production. The company employed 20 individuals. The clay came primarily from Macomb County. Wares were marketed to Illinois. Nebraska, Iowa, and other western states. In 1939. Haeger Company purchased Buckeye Pottery and used the pottery to manufacture Haeger floral artware. Offering great antique stoneware jug that has a nice cobalt blue stamp on the front indicating it was made by Buckeye Pottery Company located in Macomb. Illinois. Much speculation as to its intended use and concluded that it was designed to be used for some type of alcohol beverage storage/ aging, thus the flat sides allowed for rotation. Crazing or repairs. This is ca. 1850s-1920s give or take? The neck of the vessel is impressed with an old-style" 3" The lid has a"grip" texture around it. A rubber gasket seal and screws into the top of the jug. It appears to have"+" slots in the top for screwing the lid tight so I'm assuming it held some type of valuable liquid! The lid has an inclusion and some small factory flaws(I can provide more pictures upon request) The jug's about 18" tall. It has a 2-tone brown glaze with a darker goldeny color on the top half with the lid a shade darker. It's beautiful and a very rare find! Please visit our Ebay Store for a look. You Never Know What You Might Find. As always. W e do try to combine. Thanks. VERY NICE! This is a 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug with the embossed#3 at the top. It also has what looks like a curved cartouche or scroll but the name of the maker is blank- you can see this in the last picture. It measures about 15-1/2" high and about 9-3/4" across the base. It weighs about 12-1/2 pounds. In very good antique condition- no major issues- just normal wear. Discoloration and imperfections with age- the inside is a glazed dark brown- comes with the cork. Moonshine jug in good condition. 6-1/2" diameter at base, 2 tiny chips on inside edge of lip, crackling in light tan glaze on lower half, and some drip mark hazing of surface of dark brown upper half, otherwise any other scrapes, dings, bumps dimples or other surface irregularities on this jug are from the forming process! No makers marks found anywhere on this, but close inspection does seem to show indications of hand-forming around the neck and bottom of handle/loop. Up for auction is this very impressive 3 gallon Red Wing jug. Believed to be Redwing. Redwing was known for their target with tail designs, use of turkey droppings and their beehive shapes. You can see examples of this in Warmon’s Red Wing Pottery. Identification and price guide byb Mark F Moran As i s with all antiques. Especially Stoneware, there will be flaws. Most are because people don’t treat them right, but there are some factory flaws. This jug sat in my bedroom for years and was treated with care. Now I will list the factory flaws for you. There is one Factory flaw in the handle meeting the spout. The turkey dropping is inside the flaw showing it was done in the firing. Another factory flaw around the neck. From the surface, it is sitting on, to the rim is approximately 11" The arch of the handle is slightly above the rim. The bottom is 6 1/4" in diameter. This jug has 0 cracks, however around the bottom are some minor to insignificant chips. On the rim is a larger chip. Description Here is an antique pottery vase. It has 3 handles with iron rings around each one. It has unusual irregular designs. I'm not sure of the substance it's created with. I didn't have it appraised. It is solid with nice antique wear. It is ready to display! It measures almost 5" high. The base is about 2 1/4" and the top is about 2 5/8" across. It was found buried in the sand in Michigan near the Canadian border and Lake Superior. I don't know it's original origin. Shipping will include a tracking number. Nice old croc for sale! I am pretty sure it has been painted with the pine cone design recently. Croc is in overall great shape with a hairline crack coming up from the bottom up the side as seen in the picture. Only damage. Dated Oct 3 82. Has a cool old squared handle.
