This piece has a melon rib shape and the glass has beautiful transluscence. The finial has the original bronze fitting with fine patina. This piece measures 6 1/2" high. About 3" across at the widest point and 15/16" at the base. It is in very good estate condition. The only flaw I find is expected light wear on the bronze-not at all excessive but see enlarged photo to evaluate. Antique HUGE Carved Old Paint 1/2 ROUND VICTORIAN Architectural FINIAL Pediment ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL FINIAL DECORATION Wonderful antique large solid wood Victorian 1/2 round finial decoration measuring approximately 11" wide and 6" tall. Featuring an orb shape made from building layers of carved wood into a round form. It bears the original old weathered gray paint. Once a complete pediment ball, probably mounted to a stand or base, it retains part of the original wooden peg threaded through the back opening which would have held the two pieces together. Condition is good with lots of paint wear. Rubbing and loss as shown- stable age related wood shrinkage cracks, and general shabbiness from age- love it! I've always used this as a piece of architectural art- it makes an interesting statement standing alone on a table top or ... moregrouped with other unusual shapes. VERY LARGE RARE SALVAGED ANTIQUE SOLID BRASS FINIAL 4" - ALMOST 1.50 POUNDS !
This is very unusual and rare antique solid brass and very very heavy finial weighing almost 1.50 pounds. It measures almost 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide. The patina is rich and beautiful! We found this in one of MANY boxes of lighting and door knobs etc. in my fathers basement workshop. We live in the center city Philadelphia art museum area where our 3 story federal style homes were built in the 1870s. People were always throwing the original fixtures out in the 1950s and 1960s to MODERNIZE but my father always collected them. NOW they are putting back what the last generation tore out and threw away. I dont really know anything else about this finial. Thanks for looking at my fathers finial. Solid Brass American Bald Eagle, Flag Pole Finial / Topper, Landing. 6 1/2" tall
Great looking eagle in excellent condition. Has screwhole on bottom for mounting. Eagle strikes a great landing position pose. Very smooth and well made topper. Just over 6 1/2" tall. 3 1/2" from head to tail and 3" from wing to wing at the bow. It appears larger than it's dimensions to me. Probably because of the way it's posed. It is a rather pretty piece with a ball top to a bulbous center with carved leaf design coming off the bottom to the midsection, it has a peg dowel at the base, it has a flat section on the back at the center and at the base, I think the wood is walnut but cannot be certain. I'm fairly certain that it is made of brass, which would lead one to believe it has to do with a fireplace. As you see it has a beautiful patina and where it is worn on the edges you can see the brass color coming through. This would make a beautiful, unique decorative piece. The weight is 3 1/2 lbs.
