Fine and exquisite, early antique French clock depicting Cupid holding a sharpened golden arrow. It is of stunning quality, finest ormolu(finely gilded bronze or bronze doré) mounted on beautifully figured red specimen marble. Cupid is finely modelled in bronze with a lovely, rich patination. The bronze work is by Pailly of Rue Chapon. Paris. Pailly is listed in Tardy. Dictionnaire Des Horlogers. The stunning dial is designed as a swag of ribbons in ormolu. Set with 12 individual enamel cartouches. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. This type of design does not have a glazed bezel to the front. The Early French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition. It is is the earlier version of the Pendule De Paris movement with a silk suspension. Fine french movement by S. Marti& Cie. Medalle d' Argent in round body set in a chariot drawn by two goats and adorned by Bacchic cherub,putti. Mounted on a rectangular marble base with acanthus edging and paw feet. The two matching covered urns are festooned with garlands and ribbons and have finely detailed mythical fauns playing instruments on each side. One urn is slightly crooked because there is a ring that the body of the urn rests on that is detached slightly from the shaft. It combines superb gilt bronze figures with a white marble base and a blue& white porcelain column which houses the fine small movement. This clock stands just under 14 inches high. She wears a diaphanous dress and holds an amphora on her shoulder. The bronze has its original gilt gold patina or color. The figure is mounted on a rouge marble column form base with bronze mounts. At the center is the clock face with porcelain dial and both Roman and Arabic numerals. It has fancy open work gilt hands and is marked“PARIS” The dial is protected by a bronze mounted hinged door with convex beveled glass. The clock is an eight day time and strike; the bell chimes on ... morethe half hour and counts the hours. This is an amazing French Portico All Marble Mantle Clock Set. This clock was made in the 1860's- 1890's in France out of the highest quality marble. And bronze decorations. All the bronze pieces were hand gilded with Gold leaf, and every piece you see on this clock is 100% original to the piece, and in 100% original condition. No one has ever attempted to restore it, or re-finish it, which is a VERY rare find with these clocks. The marble is beautiful with white, pink and grays throughout. All marble pieces are also in amazing condition and 100% original to the clock. Included are the two original urns for the clock, there is some stress damage to the bottom most and top most metal pieces from 120+ years of being used, but there solid(See pictures) You usually do not see the original garnets with one of these clocks, most of the ... moretime during the years the clock becomes separated with it's urns, or the urns get destroyed. But these are the original matches to this clock, both marked underneath in the marble with the phrase"Made in France" in the same writing as the clock. One urn has a small crack in the small topmost piece of marble, it's stable, and unnoticeable. The clock itself is absolutely amazing, with 6 tall columns of marble, and the portico style free swinging pendulum in the shape of a basket of fruit, which matches perfectly with the other baskets of fruit on both the urns, and the clock itself. There are two gilded trays on each side of the dial, in beautiful condition, a unique and expensive feature for these clocks. Stings of garland string from one side to the other in the middle of the clock with beautiful gold gilding. At the top of this 4 ¾ inch wide by 9 inch long by 30 ¾ inch tall French Marble and Bronze Mantle Clock is a miniature casting ... moreof a bird. All the marble columns. Finials and the base are in perfect condition with no restorations. The bronze fittings and the ormolu are also perfect. There is a tiny damage to the hand painted enamel face just to the right of the number“6. I didn’t notice is at first, but one of the black feet is a replacement. The rest of the enamel face and the fancy gilt hands are perfect with no restorations. Both springs are in very good, strong condition and this clock is trying to rum without the pendulum attached. When I tried to attach t pendelum I noticed that the thin spring piece of metal that holds the pendulum to the clock is out of kilter. If this little piece is adjusted properly, I guarantee this clock will keep good time once again. There are no other problems or any restorations to this late 19 th century French marble and bronze Mantle Clock. Marble base is surmounted by Silvered Bronze sculpture of Winged Amour representing“L'Amour menaçant” or Menacing Love. In 1757 the French sculptor Etienne-Maurice Falconet made his famous statue L’Amour menaçant(Menacing Love) for Madame de Pompadour. The celebrated mistress of Louis XV. Original model of this Cupid was first exhibited in plaster in 1755. And finished marble– now in the Louvre– was received with acclaim at the Paris Salon of 1757. On the right is a sword and parchment with inscription Eudore Christianis. Clock case is in dark patinated bronze with on the both sides winged lion figurines. One wing on the left has a small old crack due to moulding process. Base is surmounted by dark patinated bronze figurine of Roman warrior. Enameled dial is signed: C.Detouche Paris. Antique Japy Freres Clock French Bronze Gilt Figural & White Marble Onyx Mantle
For auction is this beautiful Antique Japy Freres French Mantle Clock. The base is White Marble Onyx. This clock depicts a classical figure. A gentleman in period dress with a mandolin. The clock itself is set in a gilt case with a white porcelain dial. The base has lovely decorations with swag chains and patterns. It is very heavy. The movement is stamped"Japy Freres& Cie Grd Med. D'Honneur" means it(the movement) was made some time after the company(Japy Freres/Japy Brothers) won the Grand Medal of Honor(which they did at the Paris exhibition in 1855) they also won a medal in 1867. It shows they were awarded a medal at the 1855 Paris Exposition. It means that Japy Freres won an award in 1855 allowing them to display the award on their movements until the time a nother award might be won at a future exposition. Such as ... morethe 1867 Paris Exposition. I cannot see any date on the stamp. The movement also has the number 5488 stamped on it. I got this at an Estate Auction. It did not come with the key but has the bell and pendulum. I started the pendulum and the clock ran for about 30 minutes. It's in good condition as you can see and all the the works appear to be there. Each piece is stamped with Brevettato(patented) Serial No. N7087-B77 on the underside and I understand that the set was made in Italy circa 1958. Created in brass. Bronze and a marble, the set has been much loved over the years. The ornate mantel clock sits on a claw foot brass base, lavishly detailed with floral and scroll designs. There is a bronze cherub on either side of the clock, with hooved feet standing on a marble base, each pulling at the end of a‘brass grapevine intertwined rope’ which crosses under the clock’s face. The pillares are adorned with bronze structures and are articulated in gilt bronze. There is applied th the marble bronze articulation. The clock is in working condition. The dimensions are 19 1/2 inches in height and 13 1/2 inches in length it is over 4 1/2 inches in depth. It is quite beautiful. The movement is marked 3861.

The mantel clock features a large round face with mounted bronze Roman numerals, scrolling rococo mounts and shell motif. The marble has some small chips and wear at the edges including light scratches. The gilt bronze shows traces of dirt, some pitting and rubbing. Minute hand is loose. The original movement has been replaced with an electrical movement, and its working condition is unknown. A similar Caldwell clock with identical face and comparable size, but with neoclassical figural mounts in patinated bronze, was sold at auction by Sotheby's in New York on April 22, 2010, in lot 64, for $20,000.
