Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. This doesn't mean that you can't close them or lock them when closed, but it is something I should point out. Above the bookcase is decorative trim with a twin swan&#

It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Tall Antique Victorian Oak Cylinder Desk Carved Secretary Glass Front Shelves
Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable shelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper ... morecabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. My Grandmother said it was from 1897( 115 years old) She died in 1982 and I have had it since. for sale is a very large and useful piece of antique furniture. this is a double secretary bookcase side by side desk. it has many wonderful features including galleries. Carvings, doors, drawers, drop front writing surface, a bank of cubbies, beveled center mirror just to mention a few. note the outside column of the door frame is part of the door and moves as the door moves. it has 4 shelves on each side. i have one out to allow a large porcelain romeo and juliet statue to sit. it has a lot of storage for whatever, i put porcelain in most of my pieces, but it would hold a bunch of books also. it is in near mint condition structure wise. it is quite heavy and is in three pieces which i have pictured. i had to move it out of a down stairs room i am converting to a bedroom. i have gotten too old or too lazy to climb the steps. at any rate, ... morei unloaded it and moved it to another room that really is not a good fit for it at all so i am going to try to sell it. the three sections go together and are held in place by dowels. you then attach screws from the inside of either outside cabinet to secure it to the center section. primarily the screws are just to keep the dowels from pulling out of the piece they slip into. it is large and heavy, it a bit over 62 inches wide, 17 inches deep, and 73 inches tall. it has a tyler desk or tyler cabinet co. st. louis, mo. paper label on it when i bought it about 8 years ago. the label was barely hanging on so i took it off and kept it. at this junction however, i do not know what i did with it. i know i have it but have not looked at the right spot yet. i paid 42000 for it like nearly 8 years ago, could have been longer. ihave several pieces displaced and need to dispose of them so i am starting this great piece at 1000 less than i paid. if you note the joints in drawer i pictured you can see they are dowel joints, so i expect it was made prior to 1890, after that time they did factory dovetail. pictures are bad and sorry about the dusk, didn't get the top wiped off i see. it m

The brass escutcheons, while quite attractive, no longer house functioning locks. Each side has developed a separation in the mahogany as part of the wood's natural aging process; these age separations are purely cosmetic and don't affect the structural integrity of the piece. During a past restoration, a line of black stain was applied to these separations to complement the actual dark inlay around the bottom. The fall has also become uneven over the years and has sustained some wear to the corners but remains, like the rest of this piece, very sturdy. Finally there are a number of minor wear marks and the back feet were also replaced during the restoration. Overall this antique bureau remains in very good condition and would make a fine addition to any home or office furniture collection! This gorgeous mahogany bureau was hand-crafted in Victorian England around the year 1860. This bureau contains plenty of storage space. The sides look great. Antique Late 19th Century Walnut Secretary Desk Original Hardware England
This antique secretary in solid walnut and burled walnut veneers came to us from England c1880. It is in beautiful condition and boasts three adjustable shelves(spaced at 2 ½” apart) in the upper unit along with the original glass front doors. There is a key for the upper cabinet and it works in the lock. But the locking mechanism does not work(missing the catch) There are some surface scratches to the bottom of the upper cabinet and also to the writing surface. Solid brass teardrop knobs complete the drawers which vary in depth(top at 4 ¾” middle at 6 ½” and the bottom drawer at 8 ½” Drawer fronts are a burled walnut veneer in excellent condition. Overall height is 85 ½” and the bottom section is 36”w x 19 ¾”d with the pull down substantial writing surface at 35 ½”w x 23”d(there are narrow panels on either ... moreside of the lower unit that pull out and support the writing surface) There seems to be some very slight delamination of the burled walnut veneer on the pull down panel– this is not noticeable unless scrutinized up close and should probably be left as is(refer to photos) as it does not affect the integrity of the piece. There are some slots for mail and smaller drawers as well that have the original brass knobs. The upper section is 34 12”w x 9 ¾”d. It comes apart in two pieces for ease of transport. For sale is an antique Victorian style secretary desk. This desk is from the late 1800's and has been partially restored at some point. It appears to have some newer brass finished handles and lock bezels. There are some very unique carvings along the top spindles and on the drop down leaf. There is a key for the desk lock. But it does not appear to work the lock. The wood appears to be solid cherry. The mirror has been replaced and the shelves are glass(does not appear to be original) The rear of the cabinet seems to have been replaced and was painted. Under drop front there is 1 pull out drawer& under that there is large door with 1 more shelf plus the bottom which totals 2 shelves. This Secretary stands 67" tall, measures 39" across the front and 14" deep from the front to the back. It's in very good vintage condition for it's age& will hold a great deal of items. Antique Georgian Federal(?) Secretary Slant Front Desk Four Drawer Bureau 1840
Family lore has it that this was made in 1840 but I don't know for sure. This was my father's father and. Given to me but I'm headed to. South America and none of our children want it. All the drawers and top are joined. With dovetails at the corners. All the drawer bottoms have chamfered. Ends that fit into a tight track in the drawer. Sides. I'm guessing that drawer facewood. Is cherry(mahogany? and hinder parts of drawers made from boxwood. All the drawers fit precisely. The large drawers have grooves worn in them. From riding over guidance rails in the front of. The drawer entry points(see pics) It looks like. This was by design to accommodate the heavy. Drawers(which are prob mahogany. Not cherry) Veneer is poor in several areas. Esp the slope top front. The back view pic shows two arrows pointing out the width of a single ... moreboard which is a whopping 21 1/2 inches wide. Included in this pic at the bottom are shown. The three pieces of molding that need to be glued back onto the'ankles' The brass balls in the feet at each corner rotate. In fact, as I was rolling the 200 lb desk back inside after the photo shoot. I'll put it back in place with some wood screws. Before sending it out. The old finish is very well preserved with lots of antique character- mars. Wear and shrinkage separations from age- see photos. Mahogany wood has delicate inlaid banding and warm patina. The top two drawers are false. They drop to form a desk top. This style of desk was often called a"butler's desk" in a large household, the butler was the head of staff and kept records in a desk like this. I am selling a very nice(and very large! antique secretary/desk/cabinet. This belonged to my husband's grandparents or great-grandparents. We believe it was made in the mid to late 1800s. We have other furniture of their's and we know that is when those were made. Therefore leading us to believe the same about this piece. We do not know for sure it's history- both of my in-laws passed away several years ago, so we cannot get the full history. This piece is in two sections: the top sits down in the bottom cabinet. The bottom section has two doors with two shelves inside that are great for storage. The top section has glass doors at the top, with three shelves inside. Under the glass doors are two door on the ends, with a pull down"desk" in the middle. There are small drawers and shelves inside that section. The dimensions ... moreare approximately 6 ft. 10 in. tall. 5 ft. wide, and 21 in. deep on the bottom. It has been well taken care of. We believe the finish is original. Antique desk top secretary organizer primitive wood,stencil 1766, general store
Nice looking original primitive antique desk topper. Unknown origin, maker, age. As you see it is stenciled 1766 in the same color dark stain as the rest of the piece. Nice size at 30" wide, 9 1/2" tall, and 6" deep. The wood construction is all 1/4" except for the supports. I added extra pictures to show the condition, surface wear, scratching, marks, ect. It is a solid piece in overall good useable condition, no wood cracking, breaks or chips, just the minor condition issues from age and use. Antique writing desk secretary 1800's Please read provenance.
This rare and ornately beautiful writing desk was discovered at the estate sale of the heirs of Mrs. Theodore Peterson of Boston. The desk came with a handwritten history of the desk. Said to have been bought by Mrs Peterson in England sometime in the 1800's. Mrs. Peterson is said to be the mother of civil war officer Homer Black's wife. Eugenie Peterson. Mrs. Peterson died in Harrisburg in 1924 according to the timeline document. The estate sale conductors claimed that the desk had hand written letters from civil war officer Black in it but they were removed by the family to be kept in the family. I have done no personal research to support the letter's claim and thus do not guarantee the claim of the letter or the estate sale conductor's story but I will include the letter that came with it. The condition is amazing considering ... moreits age. The drawer pulls are missing. The leather top is worn out and separated at the seam, the top handle is missing, there is some damage where the pull or possibly a latch was originally, there is missing veneer on the right side of the top. See pics. Despite all this, the dovetail joints are tight, the hinges are set in place and the only odor it emits is that of wood. No smoke or mildew, just good old wood smell. I will carefully pack and ship to the lower 48 for $18.00 and I will ship to other locations at a calculated rate depending on country or location.

This is a gorgeous. Early 1800's, American Federal style secretary. Solid wood made from cherry and tiger oak. Has a beautiful tulip inlay. It has some slight cracks on the slant top of the desk shown in photos but is in great condition for being 200 years old. The right pull-out support for the desk is missing the knob but an easy fix.
