This is an old original blue pleated lightning rod ball. It is in very good condition. There are no cracks or breaks. There is chipping to the collar ends which is very common with these old balls. The collar ends are shown in the pics. It has a nice shiny finish to the glass and is a nice bright blue. It measures 4 1/2" across at the widest point. It will be well packed and fully insured. Recent estate sale purchase. Bridport, Vermont. Purchased from one of our prime local vendors, we knew we just had to have this one. We do not know how old this one actually is. The few opinions we have had so far is 1940's but we honestly do not know as we are still novices in these type of items. Overall this piece measures 53" tall as mounted on the 1 1/2" wood base. The weathervane arrow measures 24" long. The rooster measures 19 1/2" tall x 15" long ... morex 3" thick. The body(including the head and the legs) appears to be two pieces of stamped copper(non ferrous? soldered at the seams. The tail is a flat piece of stamped metal soldered on to the body. The rooster is soldered on to the tubular arrow. The rooster does lift up and off the mount. With the exception of the two balls, one just below the arrow and the other below the directional markers, the remainder of this item is iron. The directional arrows are fastened to a tubular shaft with set screws. These are moderately rusted and weathered. This tubular shaft is threaded on to a round small mounting base plate which is fastened to the wood base. Very good overall condition showing atypical age related patinas, wear, corrosion, etc. We see a small spot on one of the arrow tail feathers detaching from the shaft and may need new solder or epoxy. We see the small two halved copper ball has a tendency to want to separate when not under pressure of the rooster pressing down on it. Another solder or epoxy fix. ANTIQUE ORNATE IRON ARROW Measures 22.75" long. There are no breaks. Cracks, or repairs to this fancy old arrow. An eBay search shows me it looks just like a Kretzer but I don't see the name where it usually is. See my last photo. Don't know if they were ever unmarked or if it could wear down that much? Unusual Old Glass Lightning Rod Topper. Orange Pendant - Lightning Ball
Now this is a very interesting glass lightning rod topper in bright. Transparent orange that has spent the last 25 years or so inside as part of a local store display. This finial. Or pendant, or topper is an unusual bright orange color, sort of a mix between orange and amber. The finish appears to be applied to the glass, not mixed into it, but it is in good condition and judging by the thickness and imperfections in the glass itself, I am pretty sure this is a fairly old piece. Burkett lightning rods
Three 16 3/4 inches long lightning rods. These came off of a very old dairy barn from a farm here in Virginia. I'm not sure of the age of these rods but they have a nice green to blackish patina on them and the bracketts are embossed Burkett System.Fremont. Ohio. I know Burkett started in the lightning rod business around 1870 or so and are still in business today. No cleaning has been done to these rods since they were taken off of the roof, so they still have some roof material on the brackets as well. The wire that connected the system together has been cut off at each bracket on the bottom of these three rods. The weather vane is made of seasoned clear eastern pine. And stressed to achieve that weathered look. In Colonial days the base would also be white, but I stained it a nice deep chestnut color to contrast the white on the whale for display. This is a large item. Vintage Rare Tall (65") Copper Lightning Rod w/ Stand
Vintage Rare tall lightning rod measuring approximately 65" Very hard to find rods of this height) Copper base. The tip seems more silver in color as the base has some of the green patina that copper gets from oxidation so I am not sure what this is made of. There is a tri-pod type stand with 2 rings where the base of the rod slips through(probably steel which has rusted) with holes in each end of the tri-pod for screwing into the top of the barn/house. The very tip of the arrow tip is very slightly bent and the rod itself seems to have a slight bend to it as well.

Antique Folk Art Horse Sheet Metal Weathervane Americana Architectural
Up for sale is an antique horse form weathervane recently found in the Northern indiana area. It is found in good used condition and comes attached to part of its original post. It is sheet metal and offered in as found condition with its original finish. This piece has pegged construction as it joins the post. The only condition issue to discuss is rust to both sides. The directional post the horse rests on is missing both ends and the tail shows minor losses. It measures approximately 12" x 8 1/2" in size. A late 19th century gilt EAGLE weathervane. Most likely an old. But not original finish. Has a great. Impressive look with spread wing design. I can not see a makers mark on this. Has wonderful design& detail. We've enjoyed this piece in our family room on top of an entertainment center for about 8 years. I've been told to find a new owner for this piece. You're bidding on my old white milk glass moon and star lightning rod ball which is in great condition with minor roughness around the rims and at least one chip around the rim that would all be covered by the collars. You'll need to do minor cleaning on it when you get it as we've left it as found. I've been told that this ball was sold by the Goshen Lightning Rod Co and they called it the Goshen design but not sure whether that is correct or not. We've added a Buy It Now for your convenience. Up for auction is a nice Hawkeye Lightning Rod Ball. This is a very light blue color. Almst white but not quite. Please view photos carefully. There are a few chips on the base of the ball rim and the top but are in overall good condition. These are over 100 years old so usually they have a few chips around the rim. See photos. Purchased at an Estate Sale. I do not know much about this piece. I was told it is very old. But as I am not am antiques dealer I really don't know. Please review pictures to judge condition for yourself. I was told it is a tin zinc metal. Hollow piece.Two sided horse weathervane. Has horse hair tail. That looks to me to have been added at a later time, possibly because the original tail broke. There are some dents as shown. I noticed a crack on the front foot. Some seperation at seams as hown.
