What caught my eye on this piece was it was a davenport desk. But instead of the typical slant front, this one has a secretary section on top. This is not a married piece, these two started life together, guaranteed. The top has nice intricate Eastlake type of carvings and half pinwheels surround the gallery. The desk top or writing surface drop downs to reveal a nice writing desk. Complete with great little cubbyholes and two drawers. There are no drawers missing, and all the hardware on this piece is original. We have the original key and it is included. The finish is original and has a rich. Warm patina. As with most old furniture, one can see areas where the finish has worn a little from use, which suits me just fine. I like to know that an old piece was used, not just displayed. I am sure if one were to use some stain in places, it would darken these wear spots right up, and then a nice coat of paste wax to continue to preserve this piece. This is local pick-up only. We will be glad to work with the winning bidder and local storage is not a problem. We are willing to deliver within a reasonable commute from the Queen City and we are always traveling to shows. Antique Vintage Large Vanity Dressing Tabletop Shaving Wooden Swivel Mirror
Antique Victorian style wooden swivel mirror for a tabletop vanity or dresser. Mirror may have also been used for shaving. The frame and base are wood. I am not sure what type of wood it is. But if I had to guess I would say Mahogany, but please determine for yourself. Approximate measurements are 21 1/2" tall, 18 1/2" wide at the base and 6 1/2" deep(at the base) The mirror appears to be original and has that antique mirror patina with small black specking throughout. This is the perfect mirror if you are looking for something that shows its age, character and patina. Condition of the glass is good and it has a beveled edge all the way around(set in about 1" there is some chipping of the glass up underneath the top of the wood frame, difficult to see unless you really looking(please see last photo) Condition of the wood ... moreis good with some wear, patina and cracking to the finish in spots. This piece an amazing antique look that you can only get with with age and time. There may have been some water damage to the back of the piece at some point but it really only adds the character of the piece. Item is in all over good condition but not perfect. This dresser is a 1800's Serpentine Dresser and was my husband’s Great Grandmother’s. His Great Grandma died in 1978 at 99 years old. As far as he knows its was originally bought by her family and has been passed down from generation to generation. The mirror has a beveled edge and is in good condition. No cracks. We do not know what kind of wood this is. In the light it looks like oak. And in other light it appears darker. You be the judge. All the drawer pulls are attached and believed to be original. There are pictures of the edge of the drawers to show how they were put together with a tooth pattern. There are rolling casters on the bottom of the legs. Also believed to be original. The chest has six drawers. The side lock enables the user to lock the five bottom drawers with a key which I have. Two of the pulls have been replaced on the drawer that contains the butlers desk. They blend well with the other pulls. The top contains two doors over a mirror. It has a gallery shelf on both sides of the doors. Underneath the shelves. The back walnut boards have a beaded board design. The sides of the chest also have a beaded board design. The top is removable for easier transport. The raised design on the drawer fronts are burl walnut veneer. The chest is in very good estate condition. It appears to have been refinished many years ago. It was love at first sight when I met this Bureau/ Chest of Drawers. Circa 1890.needing to be loving restored to a majestic chest once again. I lovingly and meticulously restored this chest from top to bottom. Respecting it as the wonderful antique treasure it is.You can easily see it is a"chest on chest" style. It features beautiful walnut veneers and solid walnut woods. The solid brass hardware is all original and very intricate. Stunning really. I buffed it back to full glory. The lower drawers have a carving which outlines all the lower drawers together(see photo)There is a very small squiggle in the carving(close up photo) which was done by the maker on the lower drawer, it adds great character. No one has ever noticed it until I pointed it out to them. All of the drawers& glides/runners have been fully restored and slide ... moreexcellent. The Sheraton style legs with fluted corner posts enhance the lines of this chest.I restored the finish using many. Many coats of hand rubbed satin varnish which bringing out the gorgeous walnut grains. Built like a tank from all hardwood construction. I custom made the small piece of walnut trim in front of the backsplash.The two small doors are a very unique feature. I installed new magnetic catches for the doors. All of the drawers feature lock and keyed dovetail joinery. Strong, solid and secure displaying the finest craftsmanship by the maker. I restored the inside of all the drawers with the same hand rubbed satin finish as the exterior of the chest.The drawer bottoms are rich& beautiful grained mahogany. Sheraton Chest of Drawers with Carvings
This is a piece of furniture that stops you in your tracks. Solid. Lusterous cherry on top and sides, with flame mahogany veneer on the drawers done in a repeating pattern that resembles a bird in flight. Archetypal big round brasses hardware and simple, folksy carvings running along the bottom length of the leg, finishing off with scrolled feet. There is a bit of nicking to the veneer in a few places, but its old damage and somehow looks inherent. Other than that, it is in amazing condition. The drawers are smooth and the wood is beautiful. Looks like it was refinished a while back. Very, very heavy and solid. One of the nicest large bureaus I've seen-and an unusual example of Sheraton. 38" tall x 21 3/4" deep x 42 3/4" wide. English Regency 6 Drawer Chest Dresser, Egyptian Motifs, Mahogany, ~1820 Antique
This is an English. Circa 1820, six drawer chest or dresser. It is made with thick, bookmatched mahogany veneer over pine, double raised panel sides, and fluted columns resting on strong spade feet. The original Egyptian Revival gilt brasses celebrated Britain's 1798 defeat of Napoleon in The Battle of the Nile, and the subsequent discoveries of Egyptian art and culture. The chest is 50" high, 40 3/8" wide, and 23 1/8" deep. Five drawers are approximately 6 3/4" high, and the bottom drawer is 8 1/2" high. I cannot find a maker's identification, but the frame and drawers are hand numbered in pencil. This chest was professionally refinished approximately 30 years ago, and it has been used irregularly since that time. Small areas in the secondary wood of the drawers were filled at the time of refinishing, but ... morethis appears to have been done for cosmetic purposes only. There is no movement in any of the joinery including the legs, and the drawers work very well for a chest of this age. As is appropriate, I suspect the chest with drawers weighs 250 lbs. There are age appropriate scratches and bumps here and there, and particularly on the top and top drawer face. Also, there is long-term wear to the veneer at the location of the ring pulls. Many of the hardware posts(which hold the ring pulls) have been replaced, and the two original posts on the bottom drawer are a bit loose. Further, some of the nuts that fasten the pulls to the drawers have been replaced. Lastly, one of the drawer locks is missing, as is the key. I would recommend Ball and Ball, Exton for the repair, replacement and or keying of the locks. I believe the clean lines and strong profiles of this chest exemplify good Regency furniture. Up for auction is a circa 1800 Federal chest of four drawers. Solid cherry top. Sides, and drawer fronts. The side boards and top board is 7/8"thick. Original splayed Federal legs. The mirror has been replaced with the custom fit and all other glass is in tact. This has very detailed craftsmanship which is obvious from the pictures. There is a large center mirror with two side mirrors. There is a canopy of wood carvings of flowers over the mirror. The left and right of the mirror each have a small shelf. There is a center drop and a cubby hole on the left and right on the top of the vanity. There are four doors that open. The center two door wood with glass opens and has a shelf.
