Antique 19th Century Sterling Silver& Bronze Religious Chalice with case. This chalice was used for many years during church services. The upper cup portion is Sterling Silver. The hallmark/stamps have worn away a bit with use and are hard to decipher(see photos) I believe the stamps to be French) The stem and base are Brass and Silver Plated. Most of the Silver plating on the stem has worn away. The base is engraved with leaves and one Pattee Alisee Cross. The chalice has not been cleaned and will be left as-is for the purchaser to care for as they choose. Overall this is a very beautiful piece! Sterling Silver Chalice and Paten Made in France in the 19th Century. Original Case and Key. With Hallmarks This smart chalice and paten set comes from France. It is an antique piece that dates from the 19th century. Both pieces have hallmarks that testify for their quality and origin. The set comes in its original case with key. Designed to store and carry it. The paten and the chalice’s cup are made of sterling silver and both pieces have survived to our days in great condition. The design that this set for the Eucharist boasts is classic and simple, being a piece with a high decorative power. The case is also well preserved and the lock works perfectly. The chalice’s stem and base are made of golden metal. While the cup is solid sterling silver. We can see two hallmarks in it, both located outside and near the edge. The cup is flat, and ... moreits inside surface is gold-plated. The base boasts an engraved decoration with classic vegetal-inspired motives and a Latin cross. It also bears a series of leaves that join at the beginning of the stem. The node located between the cup and the base is decorated in a similar way. Between the main node and the base there is a smaller node simpler in design, with a decoration of moldings. If we turn the chalice, under the base we will find a stamp with the inscription BIAIS AINE& CIE. PARIS. On the other hand, the paten is also made of sterling silver and its only decoration is an engraved Greek cross in the center. It has the same contrasts that we have seen at the chalice’s cup. As stated before. Both pieces are stored into their original case, a rectangular container outside covered by black faux leather. Inside it is lined with red velvet. The case keeps the original metal fasteners and handle, and also the key designed to operate the lock. Measurements: Chalice: Width: 105 mm/4.1 in. Height: 195 mm/7.6 in. The paten is 7 1/4" diameter with a memorial engraved in fine script on the back dated 1906. Although not original to this chalice. It makes an excellent match. The chalice cup is 4" diameter. Up for your consideration is a simple but beautiful sterling chalice from France. Dating back to the 40"s. It is in wonderful conditition. It has a Gothic node and a Gothic undercup lining that carries the French maker's hallmark and the 925 sterling quality grade. The base offers a Chi Rho cross. It comes with a wonderful original sterling paten. The base of the chalice has one very very tini nick vis a vis the Chi Rho cross at the back of the chalice. You must have a good eye to notice it(see picture 4) It measures 8" tall. It was offered in 1954 as a ordination gift but I believe it was many a few years before(1945+/ It comes with the original travelling case that is in very good condition. The chalice has a plain circular rounded bell shaped form onto a knopped pedestal and stepped spreading hexafoil shaped foot. The foot of this impressive chalice is ornamented with a floral motif to one panel. The knop to the stem is encircled with applied rope twist style borders. The drinking vessel and underside of the paten retain the original gilding. The paten has a subtly convex circular form and is embellished with the contemporary engraved initials‘ihr’ This impressive set retains the original ... moredrip cloth ornamented with an embroidered cross-patonce. The communion set is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with velvet and satin interior. Which secures with a push fit catch. This fine antique William IV sterling silver communion set consists of a chalice. Paten and wine phial/flask. The chalice has a circular rounded form onto a knopped pedestal and spreading foot with a collet style rim. The interior of the chalice retains the original gilding. The paten has a circular tazza shaped form to a plain circular spreading foot. The rim of the paten is embellished with an applied moulded border. Both the paten and chalice are ornamented with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved hexadecagon sunburst motif with the initials‘ihs’ to the centre in addition to a cross pattee ... moreand three geometric motifs. This communion set further benefits from the original ovoid shaped faceted glass phial/flask. The flask retains the original glass stopper and plain cylindrical sterling silver screw fit cover. The box is embellished with the original applied silver oval cartouche displaying the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of an angel.
