ANTIQUE AMERICAN FOLK ART LIGHTING ROD/WEATHER VANE - MAN IN JALOPY
Just off a barn in central Iowa where it's stood for over 90 years. 55 1/2" Tall. Arrow with man in jalopy is 24 3/4" long with the car itself 10" long and 5" high. Car is aluminum. Arrow and 3 shafts to legs are cast iron and are weathered. No breaks. Lightning rod is copper which has verdigris with time. Only problem is the ring under the arrow has split. Does not affect it in any way. Could be replaced. This is"as found" condition with a great old surface from age and exposure. Very folk art in appearance. These are vintage originals! Not repops. These are the real thing. This came out of my Grandparents' Estate and my step-grandfather, who passed about 10 years ago, was a lightening rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was in his garage with a collection of other vintage items, several of which I've already sold to happy collectors! I'm selling these as a set because of the thematic connection. It is a bit brighter than the few used ones that I've seen which suggests it was part of the Roderfer find(maker of most LRB's) way back in 1986. Its attractive and in excellent condition. ~~~ Antique ~ Twisted Iron ~ Lighting Rod ~~~ This is an antique lighting rod. The exact age is unknown but the demolished house from whence it came was 80 years old. The iron has been twisted and there is a female screw pattern piece at the bottom that looks copper or brass to attach to a stand. This attachment piece has"Miller" stamped on it. Piece measures 50" in length. The finial itself is 10" in length. Holding a ruler up left to right and looking at the twisted iron straight on it is 3/4" in width. The female copper or brass attach piece at the bottom looks like it has been welded on and it measures 1 1/2" in length. Interesting lightning rod ball. In the past I've had this ball in dark red. SCA and light amber but I've never seen it in the dark red amber color. That makes me think that this is not an old ball but rather a Roderfer item or a repro. The glass is very heavy, much more so than the old 3.5 inch ribbed balls. 2 lbs. The measurements 10" with the lettering measuring Approx. 2 1/2" in height and 1 1/2" wide. The west and east looks to have been repaired. This is a old fire truck pumper or steam engine weather vane. I don't know the age of it but it has deep rust pitting on the cast iron arrow.I don't know what the engine part is made from I think it is brass because a magnet will not stick to it but does stick to the arrow portion. Glass lighting rod weathervane teardrop pendant
For your consideration is this glass lightning rod or weathervane teardrop pendant ornament. Not real knowledgeable on this item but I have seen them before. It's deep red with a metal top that is corroded and probably never coming off. But it still hangs like it's supposed and the color is great. I'm not finding any damage other to the metal top which shows in the pics. It's about 5.5 long including the top hanger and 3 wide.

The only maker mark I could find was a P pressed into the metal arrow stem. Approx. Measurement- Arrow is 20 1/2" long x 1 1/2" tall Cow is close to 9 1/2" long x 6 1/4" tall Weighs a little over a pound Condition- The cow is splitting apart in areas along the seam.
