I'm not sure if he made it himself or if it was a gift to him when he retired. I never knew him as he passed in 1957 shortly after I was born. It's a very solidly made item and in very good condition. We're guessing it's maple because it's definitely a hardwood, but it could possibly be oak. It measures 15" wide by 19" deep and is 2" tall in the front, 5" tall in the back. There are a few spots where the varnish has chipped or worn off but the wood is not gouged at all. It would look great in any vintage library or office setting.

Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Antique Burl Walnut Inlay? Desk Organizer Or Letter Box
You are bidding on an antique desk organizer or letter box of some sort. Unsure who made it or how old exactly but it is at least 50 years old because I've seen it in an old family picture from then. It's made of burl walnut and I'm not sure what else. I believe that's the key to it but end is broken so no way to know for certain because it doesn't work. Still opens though as seen in pics. It's missing pieces of the dark wood molding around the top in parts as well as down the back on both sides in places. Has a small chunk out of the front too. Unsure how to grade this piece so take a good look at the pictures and let me know if you want to see more or have questions.

This handsome antique portable Secretary's Box is both a highly collectible and very useful item. The burnished wood case opens its doors to reveal a plethora of compartments that were used to organize the business person's work- pens. Seals, stamps, papers. Left drawer closed with metal pin insert. Bottom has drawer that opens. It has lock and key, though does not lock. It can still be used in business or home office in original capacity, or as objet d'art; there are many modern versions, most marketed as portable desk organizers. This antique has the craftsmanship and history to be most desirable. The wood may be a burnished walnut, or possibly, a tropical hardwood. Please note how the craftsman who made this carefully matched up the exceptional wood grain patterns on the doors. Vintage Wood Desktop Travel Desk Secretary Organizer
This is a beautiful piece I purchased and was going to refinish. I am very inexperienced in refinishing and the more I looked at this desk the more I thought it should be with someone capable of bringing back to it's original beauty. The inside is in very good condition and has two removable glass ink wells with silver tops. There is no key. The measurements are approximately 14 1/2" high by 11" wide. 7 1/2" deep at the bottom and 3" deep at the top. Great Condition Light Oak Dovetailed Desk Tray / Organizer / File Box, 10"x15"
Charming vintage oak desk tray with dovetailed sides. Lovely golden color. All sides dovetailed. No dings. Dents or damage. Oak grain has some darker color inside but not damage, just the natural wood. Nice and strong; really useable condition. Measures 10" x 15" All oak, even the bottom(some of these have cheaper secondary wood) Has dark felt on underside to keep from scratching furniture, as seen in last photo. Felt in good condition, no rips or tears or odors.

DESCRIPTION: One Vintage Wooden DESK ORGANIZER. With finger-joints(Dovetail) at corners, and felt on the bottom of the tray. Legal-Size Wood Desktop Tray, accessible from either end. DIMENSIONS(APPROXIMATE) External: 15-3/4" length x 10-1/2" width x 2-3/4" height. Internal: 15" length x 9-3/4" width x 2-1/2" height. AGE: Unknown. Other trays that we will be listing have TVA(Tennessee Valley Authority) stickers. Brands, etc, on them, and could easily be 50+ years old. Probably these trays are at least 35 years old. WOOD and COLOR: Fairly dark. Like Mahogany. Not sure if the wood is Mahogany, or if the trays have been stained. QUANTITY AVAILABLE: 10(we have other styles available also.
