This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone! Note: Not shipping overseas nor to Alaska on this one. Only to domestic United States. This true low-profile steamer is harder to come by then the taller flat lids. Materials include leather. Oak, canvas and hand pounded metals. Up for sale is this beautiful antique dome top steamer trunk with ornate embossed metal work and a working key. The trunk measures 32" long by 18" wide and 21" tall. The exterior of this trunk was cleaned. Sanded and the wood slats were stained with minwax"golden oak" then the trunk was sealed with spar urethane. The interior lining was removed then the wood was sanded and stained with minwax"golden oak" as well. This trunk shows some wear from age and has some minor flaws i.e. one of the hinges is broke(does not effect the stability, very functional) overall the trunk is in very good condition. Arch Top Steamer Trunk Beautifully restored. 1800's trunk. Top is covered in a crocodile vinyl, new handles made of the same crocodile vinyl. Wood has a deep red mahogany finish, remainder of trunk is finished in deep browns, finished on the bottom also. Interior is covered in a deep brown felt. Nice sturdy piece. Doesn't look like it ever had latches, does have a lock, but no key. I have been told that a locksmith will be able to come up with a key, due to the primitive nature of the lock. It also never had wheels, like some do, and no interior trays. Has enough of a flat surface on top to hold a tray, so it could be used as a coffee or end table. For Auction: Antique 1930s Henry Likly Full Size Steamer Wardrobe Trunk. It is an unusual design. Half of the front door opens. And a leg pops open to hold it up. When you close it, the leg closes up. The leg appears that it needs a little maintenance as it needs a helping hand to close it up. It is difficult to close the trunk completely. It can be closed. But you have to fight it a little. There is no key. The lock does not lock. It appears that it may be missing the top to the drawer section. But I am not sure. The base is 22" by 23" by about 40" tall. Here is what an expert told me about the trunk: Manufacturer: Henry Likly. The Henry Likly Trunk Company was established in 1844 as A.R. T.H. Pritchard. Upon graduating from school Henry Likly took an apprenticeship with A.R& T.H.Pritchard and mastered his trade in the ... moretrunk manufacturing industry.In January of 1868 Mr. Likly was given a partnership in the company. The company then became A.R. T.H. Pritchard& Company. Three years later it became A.R. Pritchard& Likly.When Henry Likly and his brother in-law became the sole proprietors of the business the name was changed to Henry Likly& Company. This was the name from 1870 when A.R. DONNELLY ANTIQUES this hard to find dresser trunk does not have a makers name but it is still in nice condition. there are 3 drawers. 2 large and 1 small. and a compartment above them that long long has its cover that would have been held down by the to snaps on the leather straps. it has normal wear for a item of this vintage, solid shiny black bottom no rust with for caster wheels.the drawers are complete solid bottoms, lining is intact. all of the extertior locks work as designed snapping the trunk tight. the lock is broken but should be easy to replace. the trunk is 34" wide, 22" deep, 27" tall when closed.

My family came from England in the late 1800's but the history of US Trunk Co.I believe dates this to be the early 1900's. It's green wood with metal corners and does need some work but appears to be all original as is. There is no key. The dimensions are 30"L x 17"W x 13"D. There is a picture of a Victorian ... morewoman on the inside of the lid. One of the handles has a"Railway Express" tag from Brighton, and a faded"Railway Express Agency" sticker is on the bottom. The two side latches work properly and the center lock is a bit stiff and may not work. There is some writing undermeath the center lock that is hard to read but it looks like it says"Patented 1867, reissued Aug. and we cant't seem to make out the rest. We believe this is from the late 1800's to early 1900's but are unsure of the actual age. There is some very nice ornate designs on the riveted corners and the black metal on the tops and sides. There is some damaged wood and some damage to the metal on one corner, also some rust on the back hinges. The inside has some cracking in the wood but is still in good shape. You are bidding to purchase an amazing primitive antique steamer trunk that is unmarked. But reminds me of the Louis Vuitton ones. And covered with a textured substance that reminds me of leather. But I’m not sure that’s what it is. I appreciate any information you can provide about this well-traveled piece of history. It is wooden and has rounded corners and measures approximately 33 x 21 x 13 inches and has leather strap handles on the ends for easy carrying. One end of the strap is secured to the trunk and the other end will slide back and forth to a metal stop so that the leather handle will lay flat when not in use and pulls out for a comfortable grip when moving it. DEUTSCHLAND(I believe this is the Hamburg-American lines) Another one also reads HAMBURG AMERIKA LINIE A third one on that end is worn but is also from Hamburg America Line(per the logo) A forth one on that end says OBERSEE-GEPACK-NR. With a number that looks like it may be 23803 followed by S. DEUTSCHLAND HAMBURG-AMERIKA LINIE(THE LAST LINE HAS BEEN WORN AND IS MOSTLY ILLEGIBLE) The white label on the other end has a number 9. And the text is illegible but looks like it might also say Hamburg. The label on the lid is the amazing oval paper orange label that has a steam boat on the upper portion of the label. Just above the logo HAMBURG-AMERIKA LINIE and at the bottom of the white square it says NEW YORK and has a place for name, vessel and date. The outer area has text and says PRINTED IN GERMANY. The name written in ink is faint and I cannot determine the name– it looks like ANN… and the last name looks like it starts with an H. I cannot tell the name of the vessel or the date. Fantastic Large Antique Black Steamer Trunk Chest
Nice. Heavy black/very dark brown antique steamer trunk. The front lock and both side latches are present. Often the front center mechanisms are missing. Gorgeous metal accents and rivet work. Much of the leather strapping has rotted away which is very normal for these trunks that did most of their travel in the damp bottoms of large ships. The initials JEM has been placed on the side. There is a small dent on the top and water damage to the lining only on the inside as you can see in the photos. PERFECT for an end or coffee table with the flat top, as a restoration project or a blanket chest. Measures 24.5" High, 38" Wide and 22" Deep.

RARE* Antique George B Bains& Sons Trunk These trunks are quite hard to find these days since few have survived their travels…and this is one lucky survivor since originally they were intended to be light weight but they weren't very strong. This one is in very worn condition. The original decorative brass lock is beautiful and extremely rare. The lock is marked Pat’D May 1870 and Sept 1887. The lock was made by the Star Lock Works which was established in Philadelphia in 1869(formerly C. Liebrich. An early American locksmith who started in 1836) Inside the trunk is the original maker's label of George B. Bains and Sons, a successful trunk maker in Philadelphia for many years. Inside is a removable upper shelf insert to reveal more trunk space in the bottom. The bottom has condition issues and the outer straps are missing. There ... moreis no key for the lock. There are initials M. E. W. on the side of the trunk and a sticker on the side that reads Pennsylvania Railroad Company Broad St. Station Storage Room M. Train 190(Broad Street Station(demolished in 1953) was the primary passenger terminal for the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1881 to the 1950’s. I'm guessing it is from early 1900s or possibly late 1800s. Item is located in Newark. Delaware and can be picked up locally or can be shipped but buyer is to pay actual shipping costs. This is an absolutely gorgeous antique steamer trunk. As you can see in the photos the wood really accentuates the black color. The wood is beautiful. Much of the leather remains although both side straps have rotted away which is very common in a trunk of this age. The metal accents. Rivets and corner pieces are very ornate. In it's day this was a very expensive trunk. One hing on the back is in need of slight repair.
