ANTIQUE VICTORIAN PROVIDENTIAL TILE FIREPLACE SURROUND portrait tiles
The sale is for this gorgeous antique tile surround that was made by the New Jersey Providential Tile company in the late 1800's. The picture is a shortened version of the surround. There are quite a few more of the mottled tiles. It is in good condition and is comprised of the 2 corner portrait tiles and the rest are 6x1.5 inch and 3 x 1.5 inch tiles. Very few or none of the mottled tiles should need to be cut for the surround. There is some residual mortar and the portrait tiles have a few edge abrasions(please see closeup pictures) The most common surround would be 30" high and across. If you need more tiles for your fireplace surround I can flesh out this design with the mottled tiles. I have many antique tiles listed.

2 ANTIQUE PROVIDENTIAL TRENTON 6" X 6" ART POTTERY TILES BEARDED MAN WEARING HAT
These two antique pottery tiles from the Providential Tile Works in Trenton. N.J. are of the same man, but with a different tint. The blue tile is not marked in the back, and has a 1/2" chip to the back edge. If it were installed into a wall or a fireplace trim, it would not show. The green tile has a 1/4" chip to the nose, as well as a couple of small chips to the back edge. This tile is marked the Providential Tile Works, Trenton, N.J. There is crazing throughout both pieces, but the front edges on both are complete. We are a smoke free home. There are no handling fees and we reimburse excess postage. This listing is for a set of six antique tiles from the PROVIDENTIAL TILE WORKS TRENTON. N.J. They are caramel/ brown in color. And range slightly in tint. They measure 4 3/16" 4 1/4" square and 7/16" 1/2" thick at the edge(thicker at the pattern) All six are unused and have no mortar. They all show crazing, wear from stacking, and some small chips/flakes. Look at all photos carefully- as they are my main description. Book Piece ~ Antique PROVIDENTIAL TILES ~ Figural hunting scene ~ 14 tiles RARE
The sale is for these magnificent antique tiles that were made by the Providential Tile Works company in the late 1800's and in one of the most desirable color glazes. The main body are comprised of 2 five tile panels that would have been used on either side of a fireplace surround. Each tile is 6" square. There are 4 additional tiles from this original surround that each measure 6x9 inches for a total of 14 tiles. The original surround would have had 17 tiles. Three of the tiles are missing BUT the two side panels(5 tiles each) are intact. Please check the sold listing for tiles on ebay. A listing with just the 2 side panels(10 tiles) sold for almost $4000(also a book piece) It was described as having small chips. They were beautiful tiles with a beautiful glaze. I believe their high price was because they were semi nudes. They ... morewere not nearly as complex as these tiles and had FAR less detail. The tiles I have listed are in very very good condition for antique tiles. There are some flaws. The chief among them is a corner chip on one of the 6x9 inch tiles. It is difficult to notice but it seems a very thin area was"shaved" on one tile on the 6x6's.presumably to fit the mantle. There are some small abrasions. Please supersize the pictures and ask questions. These tiles do appear in Karlson's book on tiles(a bible of tile collecting)

Antique Victorian era tile made by the providential tile works-PTW-of Trenton New Jersey. Unmarked. But a back ste unique to Providential a documented design. Measures 3" x 3" x 0.5" thick Stylized acanthus leaves in a Gothic pattern. Blue glaze. A couple of edge imperfections that are glazed over and has made. The chip on the back does not compromise the integrity of the tile. Great looking tile. Very neat tile in very nice condition! Antique Victorian Tiles - Providential - Lot of 21
21 Victorian Providential tiles that have been rescued from a wall tear down. These are salvaged materials and have imperfections as are being sold as is. All will have masonry on the backs. Some surface wear and there are minor chips predominantly on the back. All tiles have the same design, however, due to the age, painting and glazing technique there is variations between tiles. A total of 21 in good condition. There is a 22nd tile that is broken in half included free. One of the 21 tiles has a noticeable chip in the upper right corner as shown in the 6th picture. Each tile measures approximately 6.875" x 4.125" 21 tiles would cover 8.75 feet no including grout seams.
